This is one of those places where you are not sure what the outcome will be, but rest assured you will not be disappointed at the Tree Hugger. The Vegan based menu has a lot to offer and the quality of food is amazing. Staff were very friendly and accommodating and the restaurant was clean and inviting.

Lovely shop! A comprehensive menu filled with various options. Plenty of seating throughout the space, the food came out quick. Lovely service, the cashier knew the menu in and out. Vegan friendly

Come through Kansas City for this spot. Only place I know with a vegan Monte Cristo. And the desserts are so delicious. They have such friendly service. A must go to place to have delicious food and sit and play a game of uno.

Tried out Tree Hugger for the first time with the family this summer. I ordered the Ultimate Nachos with Chili Walnut Chorizo (the other option is BBQ Jackfruit). I also treated myself to the dollop of guacamole for $2, making these nachos cost a grand total of $19. The nachos were good but I probably will not order them again given that price. I usually don't leave food behind but these had that bottom layer gooey chip situation that wasn't worth finishing. But overall love a vegan spot and now that I'm in the area I'll have to stop by more often to try some of the other options.

I am not vegan so I thought the chicken and bacon bits were bland but neither are bad. The vegan sauces were impressive and the food does come with plenty of it. I loved the bbq jackfruit on the loaded tots but that does cost extra. I do think the price is expensive. For a simple sandwich to be priced that high I could at least get some fries. The seating areas are clean and the employees were helpful.

I have had Tree Hugger numerous times since they opened their permanent location in Riverside and I am always impressed by the quality and range of options! There aren't a ton of vegetarian options living in the northland so it has been so nice to have a reliable place for tasty, plant based food. Tree Hugger is my go-to for a nice carryout meal but I have also eaten inside the restaurant and love the ambiance in the building with all the plants and local art on display. The service is always great as well! I've tried almost everything on the menu at this point and can confidently say I would reccomend this place to anyone. I also know many meat eaters that have tried and approve of the food here!

Tree Hugger is hands-down my favorite vegan restaurant in town! I'm not fully vegan (I'm a cheese-loving vegetarian), but this place seriously never makes me miss cheese -- ever. I got the Buffalo Mac Wrap, and I swear it tasted just like actual mac and cheese, down to the creamy goodness and the little "bacon" bits. The buffalo cauliflower bites on the side were crispy perfection, with tangy buffalo sauce and a house-made ranch that tastes just like the real thing -- I could drink it. And then... the peanut butter chocolate tart. I've been dreaming about it ever since. Decadent, rich, just the right amount of sweet -- truly unforgettable. Vegan or not, Tree Hugger is a must.

The Tree Hugger is a little gem. You ever go to a vegetarian restaurant, look at the menu only to be met by unfamiliar ingredients and pretentious titles, perhaps something called The Earth is Awesome and So Am I, maybe consisting of chia emulsion, purple amaranth, and cassava braised in the happy tears of Aztec children, and then charged $27 for the privilege of eating healthy and leaving hungry, and, sure, it tasted good but you're, like, dang, can somebody bring me a vegan sammy and tots?! Well, guess what, Tree Hugger is here for you! On our visit, the first of many, we tried the Rueben (jackfruit),Fish Tacos (heart of palm), and Taco Salad (walnut chorizo) and they were all exceptional. As were the tots, of course. It was hard to decide on those three, so many items looked tantalizing. The seating area is brightly lit and comfortable with local art on the walls and a super friendly staff that, for me, was the quintessence of happy dining. I highly recommend.

Since my husband is a vegetarian, we figured this would be a great option - and it turns out we were right! The inside of the restaurant is small, but decked out for cozyness - lots of pillows and bench seating. It turns out this place started out as a food truck. The process of ordering is pretty similar - you order at the counter, and then they let you know when your food is ready. The staff were all very sweet. I had the fish tacos, which were delicious, and they didn't have an overly fishy taste, which was a plus for me. I do think they need to work a bit on their tortilla chips - they seemed store-bought and kind of lacked flavor, compared to other restaurant chips. Overall, I was satisfied with Tree Huggers, and we'll probably come back if we're in the area.

The best plant-based menu and food I've ever had. I ordered way too much because I couldn't decide and then I couldn't stop eating. The Reuben fries and the meatloaf Sammie are both spectacular. If I lived near this place I would go here every day and I'm not joking. Bravo to the staff for taking such care to make these meals so fabulous!

Deliciously fried monte cristo sandwich. Super tasty barbecue sandwich too. The tots were okay but in big portions which is good for $6. Super friendly employee. Lovely peanut butter tart dessert and soft dense pumpkin brownie in a little muffin shape.

As soon as you walk in the door, you're surrounded by good energy. Not to mention if Brandy (s/p?) is working, you're greeted with a warm, loving and welcoming smile :-) ... You'll feel at home. Love that the dining room is decorated with art for sale. Careful, there's a delicious display of desserts to tempt you while you order at the counter. I've been craving a Rueben and this hit the spot. The jackfruit is delicious, kraut soooo zingy and the house made 1K dressing scrumptious. The rye bread appeared toasted but it was really soft, almost soggy, but the innards were so good I didn't GAF. I also ordered the caesar wrap as a bowl. So so good. Romaine was fresh and crisp, plenty of shredded "parm" and just enough soy curls. Oh, I forgot to hold the croutons, but holy moly I'm glad I F:ed the one up, cause those suckers were the highlight. They were fresh and a bit salty, so they really took the place of "anchovy" flavor in a real caeser. I love that they do their part for the earth too: there's recycle and compost containers for when you bus your table. I can sum up my visit here by saying: I arrived in KC today from two weeks in Portland, the Mecca of vegan foods. Long story, short, I was really bummed to leave Portland and come to KC because of the lack of options for all vegan restaurants, but Tree Hugger is a savior and now I can have a go-to place in KC. Thank you to the entire team! I'll be a familiar face every time I'm in town,

Was excited to try this place. First, the positive my sandwich was very tasty! But here's the butt for a sandwich to be over $12 I should be full and this sandwich just left me wanting another one. I felt like there was no separation of ingredients, I've made this dish myself and I usually dye the jack fruit in a beet, tamarin, veg broth marinade, So as to give the color of corn beef and the flavor. Also jackfruit need to be hot and Sourkraut cold so as to give off the different temperatures and contrasts. Any who tasty but needed to be at least twice the size

I tried Cafe Gratitude for the first time a few years ago, and I haven't stopped thinking about this place since. They provide more than just food... it's a whole EXPERIENCE. I've always been very warmly greeted at the front entrance. Sometimes while visiting, I've had a short wait. Other times are more empty, such as when there's a Chiefs game. All of the employees are extremely kind, personable, and welcoming. Service has truly never lacked for me here. You will notice right away that every menu item is an affirmation. At the top of the menu, it says, "I Am..." and each drink, appetizer, and entree is a positive word. As your food is delivered, they tell you your affirmation. For example, if I ordered the Warm Hearted bowl, they would say, "You are Warm Hearted." Even the water pitchers at each table have affirmative words on them. It's the little things like this that make Cafe Gratitude so special! Also, as you're placing your order, your server will leave your table with a "question of the day" that you can reflect upon and discuss with others. My partner and I love these prompts while we're waiting on our food. There's also a deck of special cards at each table that have additional questions for reflection! I try to order a different menu item every time I visit, so I've enjoyed a little bit of everything at this point. For appetizers, you have to try the Plentiful (chili). While I've never had anything here that I didn't love, my top favorite entrees would have to be Terrific (raw pad thai bowl), Warm Hearted (Italian polenta and squash noodles), and Whole (macrobiotic bowl). I also love Grateful, also known as their community bowl. If you need financial assistance with this bowl, you may pay a sliding scale of $3-11. If you want to contribute to someone else, you can pick an amount and set it aside for someone in need. I wish more businesses did this! During my most recent visit, I decided to try Transformed (tacos), which include sweet potatoes, black beans, guacamole-style hummus, pico de gallo, and cashew nacho cheese on organic corn tacos. They were delicious, but I'll probably stick to my bowls next time! It came with a side salad that wasn't anything super special but still full of flavor. The walls of the restaurant are covered in local art that rotates regularly and is available for purchase. The space itself is very cute and cozy. I read more about Cafe Gratitude's story on their website, and much of the interior is upcycled. For example, many of the light fixtures are made of old wine and vodka bottles. At the host stand, they have Cafe Gratitude postcards that you can write a message on, and they'll mail them out for you. The flavors of everything here is unmatched. Such unique combinations that my heart so happy. I always leave here feeling so fulfilled.

Service (A-) : Due to FIFA being in town we expected a crowd so we called ours in and picked it up. Staff were polite and prompt. Decor/Ambiance (C+) : Pretty basic. Lots of corrugated tin and metal chairs. Well lit building with a large alfresco dining area as well. Cleanliness (B+) : Height of lunch so it was a bit crowded, but the staff was doing a good job at keeping up. Value (B-) : We split a two meat entree (turkey and burnt ends) and for our two sides we opted for a double order of beans. It was a fair amount of food but $25 for a lunch plate was skirting the line in my opinion. But again, it is BBQ and we all know the state of the economy these days. Location (B+) : No traffic to fight. East highway access. Parking lot could've been larger as there is no off-site parking available currently. Food: (B+) : As I mentioned, we had burnt ends, turkey, and beans. The turkey, while smoky and flavorful, was too moist. I know, I know. "Too moist!?" Who is this idiot, the Goldilocks of the amateur food review set. But it was so wet that it was on the cusp of being slimy. Again, the flavor was on point so it's likely just a personal preference for texture on my palates part. The beans on the other hand were perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. I was dubious about pineapple in my bbq beans but now I'm wondering why everyone isn't doing it. The bbq sauce was the perfect amount of sweet and smoky with a subtle hint of apple. The rock star was most definitely the burnt ends. They were an A+. Perfectly marbled choice cut of smokey deliciousness that quite literally melted in my mouth. Fantastic! Summation: I'm not sure why Scott's isn't on everyone's lips as a top contender in the KC BBQ scene, but I'm here to tell you that if you haven't tried it you are doing yourself a disservice. We are looking forward to going back and trying the ribs and of course another helping of those bodacious burnt ends.
