Late review: Recently, I heard a lot about this restaurant on Main Street. I ended up checking out this place for lunch with one of my friend. First impression entering this restaurant, it looked like an old school one with real wooden tables (vintage vibes ngl). This place filled up real quick in no time. You have to order your food and pay first, they'll bring your food to your table. I ordered a steak chimi sandwich for me which came with chips. Steak chimi (Grilled tenderloin, gorgonzola aioli, arugula, chimichurri on grilled baguette) was sooo delicious especially the steak was tender and it just hit the spot with chimichurri sauce. Looking forward to check out other things sometime soon!

The Russell has amazing food! It is a great spot to go for lunch. I went for lunch the other day and got the Bibb Salad and bag of BBQ chips.

If you're into rustic, Wild West vibes and oldschool decor that brings on a wave of nostalgia, this is definitely the place to check out!!! My husband and I went in for our anniversary lunch, and it absolutely lived up to the occasion. Located within the American Insurance building near downtown, this spot is a bit of a hidden gem serving freshly grilled meat/fish and burgers dishes. We ordered the half chicken, which was grilled perfectly. It was juicy, tender, and flavorful especially with the fresh chimichurri sauce on it. The tortillas on the side felt like an afterthought, but the dish overall was a solid 9/10 from me. My husband went with the Russell burger with wheat beer, which was meaty and satisfying. The patty was cooked just right, and the fresh arugula gave it a nice peppery taste. He also got a bowl of the beef and vegetable soup, which was warm and really comforting. The restaurant was pretty quiet when we visited, so the service was quick and smooth. The staff was friendly, attentive, and happy to answer our questions. Overall, we had a great experience. The food was high quality, and the atmosphere made us feel special!! Parking Tip - there's plenty of parking behind the building, which is a big plus if you're planning to visit on a weekend.

As you walk up to order they have a sign with their specials.

I initially started off with an appetizer at a restaurant in Westport, the owner recommended me to come to a lunch spot that he owned on main! They convinced me that it was the best spot in town, Sewer immediately came over here to the Russell. Absolutely amazing experience! From the moment we walked in, the service was warm and attentive. The steaks were cooked to perfection--tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Every side dish complemented the meal beautifully, and the atmosphere made it a perfect place to relax and enjoy great food. You can tell the chefs take real pride in what they do. I'll definitely be coming back and recommending this spot to all my friends!

This steak salad was very fresh and healthy. Lots of tender steak pieces. Service was outstanding and what a beautiful ambiance.

I love the rustic energy in here. Staff was super courteous and hospitable. Food was on point. You can't ask for more when you come here. We got the Russell salad - has chopped brisket, arugula, goddess dressing, olives, onion, tomato, and a piece of rosemary on top for the aromatics. Great touch. We literally devoured the entire bowl and didn't leave anything. Staff recommended the voodoo chips and we appreciated this amazing recommendation. It honestly complimented the salad extremely well. They have a whole bunch of soups, salad sandwiches that when we looked at the tables, we were like "we gotta try that next!" We got glass of Chardonnay, which was actually smooth and strong. Exactly what you want from a white wine. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for fresh ingredients, great service, and a good time. Thanks, back to corporate work The Russell!

I thought the food was pretty good, I'd definitely try other items but I didn't get the option to order fried or grilled chicken and the cashier wasn't very friendly or patient. They were very busy so I understand they wanted us to get our order in but this was my first time and I wish they had been a bit more accommodating. I still enjoyed the ambiance with the rustic and antique decor, plus the salad was very tasty!

As all Yelpers report, the space is warm, welcoming, and wonky. Including the vintage license plates. We all knew Kansas was Midway USA?

This review is for late lunch for two on a weekday in mid April. service: The hospitality was uniformly outstanding. Everyone was enthusiastic, helpful, and professional. The team made the visit fun and interesting. bar: Handful of well thought out beer and wine choices. I drank Boulevard Space Camper (can, $6.25 as of April 2025). food: My wife's three tacos were spectacular ($16). We suspect that's brisket in there from their smoker? The meat was just that great. My Chicken Bibb (salad, with grilled bird, $17) was also amazing. That's avocado, bacon, cashews, and shaved parm in there! details: As all Yelpers report, the space is warm, welcoming, and wonky. Great music, without being distracting. Some street parking and more parking 'round back. Don't miss the bakery options, which are simply stunning.

Food: Tasty, seasoned and well balanced. I ordered the salmon salad bowl and also a slice of carrot cake. I loved the presentation but be careful when eating bc the bowl almost flipped over lol. Service: Kind, quick and helpful. This is an order at the register, sit down and they will bring your food type of restaurant. Staff were kind and cleaned up very fast. Ambiance : High end, rustic, chic. Very instagram-able and cute for pictures. Cute for a first date or girls lunch. The bathroom especially was super cute. I would love to come back.

This is a quaint restaurant just minutes from Crown Ctr, Westport and The Plaza. The decor is fresh and reminiscent at the same time with period pieces strewn throughout the decor. The staff is friendly and helpful providing menu guidance. We went for lunch and enjoyed the ambiance and food. My only issue was my salmon was slightly dry, however my daughter had the salmon BLT and said it was perfection.

I loved the atmosphere! Really cool place! I will be returning for my lunch breaks without a doubt! The Russel Burger was decent yet I felt like I consumed an entire weeks worth of sodium! So I felt terrible after the burger. I'm sure others are fine with eating like that so it's probably just me. I really want to try their ribeye and they do have vegan cookies at times which they mentioned that they post on their website their bakery options for the week!! I didn't know that so be sure to check their website to see updates on their bakery options! If you're looking to establish a good eating experience with someone I'd highly recommend The Russel. I myself would use this as a choice for a quick date or just some time to make the situation feel special..for that special person. (I will be updating review/rating with further visits and tastings)

Cute little spot located in between the Crossroads and Plaza area. Perfect for lunch dates, meetings, solo dining- you name it. Honestly it was hard choosing just one item from the menu because it all looked and sounded so good. We ended up choosing the crispy chicken cobb salad and the chicken sandwich. Both excellent. Chicken was crunchy and salad was perfectly dressed with all the different textures you would want in a good salad. The chicken sandwich was so juicy and moist, smeared with delicious aioli. For dessert we couldn't pass up the oatmeal pie, aka "whoopie pie". All the food was excellent! 5/5 stars. Perfect for that "I'm feeling a salad/sandwich kind of meal", but in an elevated way.

    Mushroom toast - yum

This is one of my fave spots in the city. I popped in with a friend from out of town for a late lunch. It's always on point- the service, ambiance and food. This restaurant uses local ingredients so the menu changes often. One of the things I really like about this place is that you have lots of healthy options. And you can get an adult beverage with your meal. Gluten free and vegetarian options available. If you have a sweet tooth, you must save room for dessert. The item I'm crushing on now is the mushroom toast. OMG - it's incredible. The types of mushrooms change depending on the season but they are so meaty, tender and flavorful. And the truffle cheese takes it up another notch. My friend didn't like ricotta but she loved the toast. I could eat it every day. I'd go back everyday just for the mushroom toast. They also offer Sammy's, salads, full entrees (rack of lamb & ribeye), soups and a kids menu. Tip: it can get pretty busy during the lunch hour. And they do not take reservations.

As luck would have it, I had to run an errand near the area and my decision was made. First off, the entrance isn't where you'd think it would be. This is definitely the best place to get one in KC, so I know that I'll be back for more. I even liked the bread that they used, it set it apart from other sammiches. The turkey was on the dry side, and it was sliced much thicker than I personally prefer. I tend to like a thinner deli-style sliced turkey, so it just wasn't my favorite sandwich. My mom ordered one of the salads though, and honestly it looked better than my sandwich. It was loaded with fresh toppings, and she said the ranch was excellent. If I come back, I'd probably skip the sandwich altogether and give one of the salads a try. Overall, I can definitely appreciate what they're going for. The prices are fantastic, honestly unheard of in present day, and that's the main reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 3.
