The cutest cafe. Our server was attentive and sweet. The drinks were great. Our table had the irish coffee, bloody mary(which were half off during brunch) and an aperol spritz. All delicious. The food....I don't know even know. Rough. The roast beef hash was more like a soup? With very wet and bruised yet crunchy diced potatoes? The egg on top almost seemed microwaved or cooked on some strange nonstick pan that made it a plastic like texture? The vegetables were good. The chicken just ok. It was a little dry and perhaps overcooked. In all, it was good and I wasn't that hungry so it was enough. But not a place for large appetites. Such a great little gem. I have eaten here 3 times and each time has been such a wonderful experience. The medallions at dinner are the most tender meat ever and the desserts are amazing. For lunch I had a sweet potato bun mini sliders and didn't know the flavors would have me craving for another visit. This is a great date spot and the servers are great. It had flecks of mystery meat, no kraut, no rye, no thousand island. None in our party had a positive food experience. Meals, tax and tip came to $25 each. Recommendation: don't bother. read more

The service saved the meal. Had the Lox and toast had to ask for more Lox (see pic) tasted like cream cheese on a piece of basic bread. Being a cafe, I expected a thick slice of homemade bread or something not out of Sara Lee packaging. I came for the French toast, but they were out. The cinnamon roll was not done in the middle. The banana loft was not made that day. My husband got the quiche, and it was a very small serving, but he enjoyed it. This was a favorite place for me and a friend last summer. The food was divine and portion sizes were respectable, while wait times were very reasonable. We just had lunch there yesterday and a few things seemed different. The parking lot was not full. Great for us! We seated ourselves and I noticed a cocktail menu on the table that wasn't there before. Fabulous! We're "brunching" and adult drinks are perfect with brunch. We're greeted with the friendliest wait staff and receive our menu's. Uh oh....everything has completely changed. Where's the Shepard's pie!? In fact, there are very few items that involve a fork, as this has changed into a sandwich-style of menu. I'm having a difficult time picking out what I want because the changes here are pretty big. I ordered the breakfast burrito and a side salad. It took a very long time for our food to arrive. When it did, I couldn't believe how small the burrito was, which would be okay if it were actually good. I was underwhelmed and still hungry but figured in 20 minutes, this will subside. My friend wasn't hearing it and offered me a taste of her slider, which wasn't bad. After reading other reviews, I learned it was under new ownership, which now makes more sense as to why it was so different. The good. -the ambiance and music -the service -the cocktail selection The bad. -the menu selection -the long wait times -the exquisite taste of their dishes...gone, and now just meh My suggestion to the new owners would be to lower your prices to better represent your menu offerings and wait times. Great spot in downtown Saint Joseph. The atmosphere is nice and open. The menu is small but has enough variety to please most people. They offer farm to table food and let me tell you, it delicious. They didn't have a desecrated gluten free menu but they made certain that the recommended items were gluten free. Our salads were great. The split pea soup was yummy too and my husband liked his sandwich. We left feeling satisfied but not stuffed. This is a great little spot. read more

First, the place itself is amazing. Really cool woodwork and tin stamped ceiling. The food arrives from the downstairs kitchen via a dumb waiter located behind the bar. Our server was friendly. The food was outstanding. They say they are farm to table and I believe it My wife had a BLT and tomato bisque and loved it. I had a ham and cheese sandwich on a croissant with the hummus and pita bread. A ham and cheese sandwich should be pretty basic, but for some reason this one was very fresh and delicious. A couple of us had wine and beer and we ordered four appetizers to split. FILLING and so full of flavor. I would love to make a trip back to try and entree. Charming and ethical! I get cranky with people automatically giving me plastic straws (especially if they'll just be thrown away even if I don't use it). But they provided good paper straws for us to use to drink our draft cider (which also presumably means less waste than bottled). I got the pomegranate cider, which was a little more tart than the cherry my companion ordered, both were lovely and from nearby Kansas City. Our dinner was delicious: I wanted to save room for dessert so ordered a pear and fig salad (both mission and brown figs); I would've preferred goat cheese to the burrata, but that's a matter of taste, I still enjoyed it very much. We both had French onion soup; the cheese topping it was outstanding (I didn't ask if it was local, but they do aim for farm-to-table). My companion chose the green lasagna which we both liked quite a bit as well, even though I usually avoid lasagna because of the texture of ricotta. And we finished with the bourbon pecan chocolate pie (I may have the adjectives in the wrong order), but it was yummy as anticipated, with a tasty crust as well as the filling. Finally, the ambience is casual-nice: classy decor (as the name suggests) but bright rather than dim; I think one could wear just about anything clean, and we were at a small stone high-top table on stools, with really nice cloth napkins. read more
