Needed broken glass repaired on statue. Brought it in after speaking to rep. Fairly simple re attaching of head to body. WhenI went to pickup The break was gooy and sharp edged,not smooth as desired. Something went wrong as anyone could see. Rep agreed that job was not satisfactory and we needed to leave piece for further repair. After inspecting 2nd try all was satisfactory smooth, dry and almost invisible. Should NOT have taken two trys to do such a simple repair. read more

They were able to accommodate my concerns and we came to a very amicable agreement. I needed at-home repair of several antique pieces. One was a mahogany buffet which needed veneer repair as well as loose posts on the piece. Both problems were resolved by the Trefler technician Sam, who made the repairs and skillfully colored the area. Another was an 18th century French armoire. One of the original shelves had warped and had to be resized to fit back into the piece. I also needed the door latch relocated so that I could open the doors without using a ladder. These repairs were effected by the technician Bernard. The remaining time was used to repair an antique table with a loose shim, a loose piece on the front of another anntique armoire and a Charles X antique clock which had cracked on the front of the piece. There was a three-hour minimum payment for the technicians' time and transport. While expensive, I felt the time was well used and the expertise of the technicians totally justified the fee for their presence. The bottom line is that all my furniture problems were resolved by their intervention. You get what you pay for. read more

Four years ago I dropped a cut lead crystal water goblet, one of eight. It broke at the middle of the stem between "knobs". I was charged a very fair price and when finished it looked terrific. No one but me would ever notice the repair. However I was told that they could not guarantee the repair as it broke at the weakest point and they advised very gentle care. In December, in spite of my care, it broke at the same spot. I brought it back prepared to pay for another repair. To my very pleasant surprise they repaired it again at no charge! Update: Trefer's rewired the fixture with different colored cord and was able to turn that around in 24 hours. Laura Sheehan (VP, Studio Manager) reached out to me and apologized for the experience. She clarified that all work is completed in-house and nothing is outsourced, so I want this updated review to reflect that. Don't wIste your time with these folks who are more expensive by far from any Art restoration company in the local New England are. They are so out of like with the price of cleaning and fixing 2 scratches on an old portrait. The wanted over $5000 and my head almost spun completely off. When I calmed Down enough I located a local gentleman in boston area who did an amazing job for under $700. Sadly, I met the Trefler & Sons crew due to a teeny tiny accident that left a Waterford goblet with immeasurable sentimental value chipped. Rebecca, David, and Paul (all VPs) took the time to reach out and help me from the time I contacted them for a quote until they time they received my package. What I think I appreciate most is that Rebecca took the time to personally email me to let me know that the cost to repair the goblet is more than the cost of a new one. She then pointed me to the exact pattern I could search for and order... I was astounded. I think it says a lot about a company that they would point you in a direction that may take business away from them in the name of doing the right thing. Of course, I sent the glass in because of the sentimental value- so I opted to have it repaired. Hopefully, I won't have to do business with them again (because it means I will have ruined another family heirloom). However, if the need arises, I definitely will. read more

My family took an antique chandelier there for repair. They took off all the crystals then kept it for months, trying to rehang them back to the same lengths. They mixed up the sizes and lengths so many times and could never get it right. We ended up taking it home, but now some strands are loose, others taught the crystals put back in places are the wrong sizes and the whole job looks completely botched... which should not be the case for $1000 read more

I spent almost 2 months waiting for a table. They didn't even come close to repairing this table. Waste of time, no customer service. Find somewhere else. I forgot to mention they offered me $28 dollar refund and a certificate for service. Why would I ever go their again. Get a clue. read more

My husband's family has been coming to Trefler's for decades. We've recently had some furniture stained (a white contemporary dresser and an antique desk) and once again, they did a great job. Pickup and delivery was easy, they really know their stuff-- it may take a long time but they do it right, which means a lot on the family heirlooms that mean a lot to us. read more

I had a very small chip on an early 18th century dish. I paid $250 for a terrible repair which I asked them to re-do. The re-do was as bad as the original and they told me I should have paid $400 for a "collector's repair". I'm sorry, but I could do it better myself, which I actually did once I took it home. read more

I have had many objects fixed by Trefler's over many years. The repair is usually ok. In this climate of dis-respect for "others". ....The store was decked out with all kinds of Christmas decorations and Christmas music was playing. I asked the clerk why there were no Chanukah decorations and was told.." a decision was made not to have them, I'm sorry." Well Trefler's-- I'm sorry-- I'll find somewhere else to take my repairs next time.. We should have equal respect and consideration for all customers. read more

Many years ago there was a fire in our Brookline 3 story brick double building. We were lucky to get away with bad smoke damage, rather than loosing the full contents of our apartment as others did. When the firefighters were in out apartment the top the top of our 100 year old elmwood Korean chest was damaged leaving a significant chip in the wood (no hard feelings, this was during a fire ). Our insurance company recommended Trefler's who came by, picked up the chest & restored it to perfection & delivered it back to us.It was exceptional work on their part, we remain pleased with the quality of their work. read more

I just went into the store to pick up a piece they fixed. I noticed many Christmas decorations, but no Chanukah decorations. Only Christmas music was playing. I asked the clerk who explained.." My husband gave me a vase on our very first date in 1977 and in the late 1980's a hanging plant fell on it, breaking a piece off, about an inch by two inches. I brought it to Trefler's and they repaired it in such a way that you would never know it was repaired. Although many years have gone by, I still have the vase on my bureau and I will always be grateful for their expert repair. My mother had a wiring fire in her home in June 2018. The private adjuster recommended Trefler's and we went with his vendor. Worst mistake we've ever made. The items, they were only to clean, were supposed to be delivered on December 11th as per our conversation with their employee Chris. On December 10th I called to ask when they were delivering our items because I had not heard from them. The response from their Operations Manager Paul was that he knew nothing about any of our stuff or its due date. He further explained that Chris was a bad person and was fired. I explained to him that I did not care that they hired a bad person and none of that was my problem. My mother needed her furniture back because she was finally able to return to her home. My mother is turning 79 this year and has lived in this home since 1966. She had been displaced since June. They said that nothing was ready because they never got the go ahead from Chris (the guy they fired). I made it clear that they should have at least her bed delivered the next day. They did manage that. The cleaning job. however, was poor at best. Every time I touched or moved that piece of furniture I got soot on my hands. They charge and act like they are some kind of museum conservators but in reality they're a bunch of flim flam artists and thieves. The remaining items have been trickling in over the last 3 months. We gave them a check for 12,600 dollars for the first load and when the accounting receipt was mailed they only said they received 10,200 (we have the cancelled check). The last episode in this saga was a trip to their location to find 10 missing items that they removed from my mother's home in July. The first thing I asked about was a seven foot tall cabinet from the office. Paul told me they didn't have that and never took it. Same with our leaves from our victorian oak kitchen table and two handmade silk quilts made by my great great grandmother. When I informed Paul that I had witnessed their people taking the cabinet the owner?? David Manzi came out of his office and said that neither he or his employees would put up with my Bullsh*t. He then told me to get the f*ck out. This is a sinking ship and if you care about your stuff you should never bring it there. They will soon be in bankruptcy court and whatever heirloom you've handed over to them will be gone forever locked up in a legal mire of their creation. The management of this company is rotten from the top to the bottom. They blame a rogue employee for all of the problems they have. It's poorly run and the fact that it has survived this long is a testament to the lack of over sight from insurance companies. If the insurance companies knew how badly they were getting screwed the entire management team would be in jail for a very long time. DO NOT EVER DO BUSINESS WITH THESE LIARS. read more
