Tremblay's remains a Hayward must-visit -- even more so now that they've expanded into the next door shop space. The counter wraps all the way around, providing more room for making and buying candy and snatching some fudge samples. Some of my favorite items: the salt water taffy (don't come at me -- salt water taffy is delightful!), chocolate covered Oreos, candy bark, Jelly Belly's and so many types of fudge. You still have to use cash only -- no credit cards. Thankfully my husband on our most recent visit had some cash on hand. I'm also excited that my kids are getting old enough to get excited about visiting and picking out some select pieces for themselves. They also liked to watch the candy being made in front of them. We went there for the fudge, which is very good. The staff is really friendly. They do not take credit cards or debit cards. They do have an ATM in the store which does have an additional fee. It was a old school candy store that was worth the visit but could stand a little freshening up. read more

The best fudge you've ever had with free samples and a dozen flavors. Get there early and you can watch them make it. There's also a display case with TONS of different chocolate dipped treats and sweets made by hand daily. If that weren't enough, it's surrounded by a selection of a thousand different types of candy sorted into sections (including a sugar free section) and you can let your kid go around with a basket and pay by the pound. Staff is friendly and helpful with multiple checkout counters so there's no line. If you're ready to indulge your sweet tooth and spike your blood sugar, this is the place to go in Hayward. Loved this candy shop. They make fudge and peanut brittle fresh right in front of you. You can sample almost every type of fudge for free and the prices on the fresh fudge are the best I have seen anywhere. $8 a pound for basic fudge. They must have 1000 types of hard candy and different types of softer candies. Really a fun place for a family and for kids. Watch out as they do not take credit, bring cash or checks. I came here at noon on a Saturday and it was busy! It can be overwhelming since there's so many selections! I got the white chocolate covered pretzels and they are delicious! The staff was very helpful and I didn't know it was cash or check so the staff helped out since I had limited cash and made sure the total was something I could cover. This was my first in person visit and last to this shop. I personally received gifts for Holidays from relatives from Tremblays in past but this was different experience. Was just visiting in laws in August. Took my whole family. We ordered 8 truffles, taffy and some brittle. Wanted fudge and I saw a whole bunch of flies sitting on fudge. Place is run by teens and no one cared about flies being a health hazard. Now Im sure flies were hitting the truffles as well because they were not in sealed cases. After eating the truffles my son was on the toilet all day and my stomach felt queesy. If you are visiting in summer just be aware flies are sitting on your food after they sat on sh*t. If they have flies in there like that not sure what else harbors. Wont be back or accept any gifts from there again. read more

Ive been going here almost my entire life, every time i visit my grandparents we get a basket full of amazing candy and handmade sweets. All the employees are so kind and helpful even with my grandmothers gluten allergy. The shop interior almost never changes and it bring a wonderful comforting feeling every time i go in, i love knowing where all my favorites are and seeing any new candies in the center island. We've been going to this candy shop since way back, longer than I can remember. Having had a home in the area since the 1970's, Tremblays was a part of my own childhood, and is now an annual tradition for my own kids. Still, I have to question how unaware the owners of this shop have to be -- You have rows of healthy 20 somethings working the cash registers, and almost all of them without masks. A good portion of the clients are wearing masks. The customers seem to have more respect for one another than the employees, and eventually owners, of the shop do for people. All over Hayward, and indeed, even at the Walmart in town, they have is a greater level of regard for the safety of the people who shop there. I'm disappointed in Tremblay's. Requiring customers to wear masks is one of the most well documented, cheapest ways which can stop the spread of Covid. When we wear masks we say to others "I value your health and safety." It is unfortunate that the owners and employees of Tremblay's aren't sending this message to their customers. read more

How can you not stop into Trembleys My husband had picked up some sea salt Carmels for a coworker a couple of years ago and he doesn't dare come back to work after a trip to Hayward and Tremblays without them. They come in milk and dark chocolate as do most of the other chocolate confections. The Sea Salt Caramels are so popular that they now have a sea salt Carmel fudge which is to die for. Make sure you bring a lot of cash as it is hard to get out of this awesome sweet shop without dropping a wad. Because we are always bringing back treats to coworkers a minimum of $50 and over $100 is our usual budget. But, if you have control (more power to ya) you can pick a couple of hard candies or sweet water taffy out and come out of there with your head held high. I've been coming to Hayward with my family for over 15 years and we always have to make a stop at Tremblay's. They have a huge selection of candy, including an entire WALL of different saltwater taffy flavors. Walk in, grab a basket, fill it up, and then maybe grab a second basket. As somebody who is brave enough to say she's never ventured out to the Midwest, but instead was brought back this candy as a souviner from her boss whom is from there, this place is BOMB. And as a diabetic, I'm usually a bit weary of sugar-free candy that is presented to me, usually its just not that good. Tremblay's is an exception. My uncle owns a home on Lake Namekagon so I've been coming to the area for 30+ years. Every vacation we'd make a trip to "big city Hayward" and one of the highlights was a stop at Tremblays. It's still pumping out fudge, candy and providing locals and visitors alike with a fast track to diabetes. It smells like butter, sugar and cavities in here...delicious! While I am not a fudge fan, my whole family loves it, to the point that you have to bring back like 10 boxes for presents. This is one of my very favorite candy shops ever, with a great variety and super fun atmosphere. We love watching through the window as workers make brittle and candy right before us. We love the center island of candy jars where employees weigh your wishes by the pound. And we absolutely adore the pecan turtles, which we could eat every day of the year with no trouble! The only problem at Tremblay's is deciding what you want! Along with the turtles, I love the malted milk balls here -- chocolatey and malty, way better than the brand name mass-produced version you can buy in stores. My husband totally loves the wide assortment of gummy things. And then there are those dang turtles. Over the years, we've tried other things... the brittle is great, the fudge is good, the haystacks are delicious. But if I had a pound of malted milk balls and a box of turtles, life would be good for quite some time! I HAVE bought the homemade turtles and they are FABULOUS. This place is a sugar addict's dream come true. You pick up these little baskets and fill them with candies that are strewn in jars around the room. The selection is amazing and the homemade candies behind the counter are, from my experience, very good. This is sort of like a Willy Wonka factory store... The only reason I knocked off a star is that this place is so packed full of oompa-loompas (otherwise known as children) that it is hard for the adult sugar fiend to get around without stepping on them. The prices are pretty reasonable, and you pay more for the experience than for the products. The staff here are almost exclusively local high school aged kids and the service reflects the expectations one should have from that. Additionally, the cash or check only policy is really frustrating. Been coming here for literally decades for the aroma and the candy inside! Fun to watch them make candy, try a sample of brittle and fudge, and browse. It's always so crowded though, not that that's the business' fault! The prices are slightly high, and for that I think they ought to at least take credit cards, but nope, just cash or check so come prepared unless you want to use their ATM in the back and pay a big convenience fee (I've been stuck with that in previous years but learned my lesson!). Over the last 10 years, we have enjoyed seeing our kids and our friends kids light up when they walk into this Hayward institution. As an experiment, give your first timer child a basket and say meet me in 5 minutes. They will come back with 3 lbs of candy...I've seen it and it is hilarious. I love this place. I have been coming here since I was 5 years old, and they haven't lost their magic. They have an insane variety of candy...the most impressive for me is there saltwater taffy...they must have over 30 flavors! They also provide little samples of their various kinds of brittle, from cashew to peanut...this brittle is ahhhhmazing! You would be cheating yourself not to buy some!
