The fried cheese curds were divine. We bought take and bake pizza and we all agreed it was the best take and bake pizza we've ever had. I think you must visit here if in the area!

They have lots of different Ellsworth cheese products, along with a bunch of other Wisconsin made items. We were on our way home from Thanksgiving in Minneapolis. The snow was coming down, and we decided to take a break and grab some lunch. Perfect timing to stop in at the creamery and try one of their famous grilled cheese curd sandwiches. It was noon and a few other people had the same idea. The several staff members we interacted with were all friendly and helpful. I got the sandwich and my wife got the Hot Chicken Tortilla soup. Both were very good. The bread was a thicker Texas toast and nicely grilled. The cheese curds had been melted, but you could still make out the curd shapes. There was a small amount of BBQ sauce that gave it a bit of a tangy flavor. I would have liked a bit more of that. Next time, I would like to get there earlier to check out the actual curd and cheese making process.

If…read moreyou've read my other reviews, you might note that I have a verifiable "thing" about old-school establishments and The Butcher Shop for me ticks all the old school boxes: glass cases displaying all on offer; butchering table a bit behind glass cases where meats are cut by these Rembrandts of protein; and succulent meats. Proper butchers greet you upon entering this Wisconsin shrine to meat and prepare to magnificent perfection the exact cut of meat you order. On this my first trip and after recovering my senses having been wowed by this little shop hidden in the woods, my particular friend and brother Bunky and I ordered porterhouse steaks (1 1/2" thick), 1"-thick boneless ribeye for the kids and for another day 1 1/2" center loin, boneless pork chops, and strips of double smoked bacon for the rotkohl to be served with pork chops. All meats will of course be grilled, steaks for 7 minutes on each side to yield charred, medium rare steaks. Oh, let me not forget to mention the smoked salmon that is so tasty and served as our biscuit for making the journey between lake cabin and The Butcher Shop. My particular friend and brother, Bunky enjoys a nearby lakeside cabin and will return as will I when next in Wisconsin. Oh, I will return, I will return and urge all who read this note to beat a direct path to the butcher shop whenever you find yourself in Wisconsin!

I put a box together to send home to my family. Horseradish pickles, pepper cheese curds, caramels, coffee and beef sticks. Did buy the cheese curds for my stay here as well as beef sticks.... delicious. Have not yet received the box, but am very excited for the delivery. Definitely worth the stop. Being from New England, I am familiar with honey and syrup, so did not need to purchase those, but there were other delights such as homemade soaps, candies, ice cream and kitchen sundries. On a separate note, had I driven here, I would have gone home with one of their beautiful chairs. Love the year-round porch/deck furniture and these were clearly quality chairs.

(Fresh cheese curds are available every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) We also perused their shop - fresh cheese in lots of flavors, local honey, local syrup, local preserves, door county preserves, local ice cream, candy, snacks, little toys. It's probably good that we don't live in the area, as we would come often!

One of my summer bucket list items has been checked off. The menu is quite simple...apps, salads, burgers, and sandwiches. I will preface that this isn't really the place to go if you are gluten free but there are gluten free options like salad no croutons or burger no bun. I got the California burger which was okay alongside my side which I upgraded to a side salad with French dressing (you guessed it - no croutons). From my family - they raved about the cheese curds which they said were very light and fluffy. Service was phenomenal. The ladies and the chef are extremely friendly and checking in frequently with us. Ambience, it kind of reminds me of a Cracker Barrel but a local version. There are a handful of rooms for tables and/or you can sit at the bar. They even have fresh cheese you can buy. They've won plenty of awards regarding their cheese over many many years.
