    Hot sandwich counter

Oh, dang, I really like this place and can't believe I haven't been there before today. I drive thru Hayward frequently and often stop for food and a little shopping, but never knew about Millers Market until now. Millers Market is a grocery store and a deli that offers fresh made to order hot and cold sandwiches. The deli staff arent afraid to make suggestions if you ask; they definitely know what is good.My husband ordered the Italian combo and really enjoyed it a lot. He was very tempted to order a hot panini so I'm pretty sure he will order it when we come back. I am gluten free and was relieved and happy to see they have a gluten free bread option for their sandwiches. It was quite good. There are so many meats, cheeses and toppings to choose from that you could come here everyday for a month and not have the same sandwich. What a treat! For dessert you can always select some of their freshly made cookies. Watch out for the Lemon Coolers, they are apparently addictive according o my husband. Lest I forget, this is a great stop for bulk items like flour, oatmeal, spices, couscous, coconut flakes, candy, nuts, and tons more. The prices make this a worthwhile stop. Overall, I recommend this as a good one stop place for your food needs when you are in Hayward, Wisconsin.

I did not get any pictures because I was not feeling well. We were here 3 times. The first time we were looking for a special dessert for our dinner. They had jelly rolls frozen and some cookies but not what we were looking for. I was actually in the store but not really with it so neglected to take pictures. We did buy a 2 pack of chocolate chip cookies which I liked a lot. The last two times we were here I stayed in the car. When my husband was here prior he had his eye on a Turkey, bacon, cranberry sandwich so he purchased one along with a Ruben, both hot sandwiches. He also got a dozen of the chocolate chip cookies-$6.99-pretty cheap. This market has a large selection of meats and cheeses, a couple of soups of the day, a lot of bulk items for all your baking needs, noodles, rices etc. The third time we stopped off on our way out of town, to have a sandwich for lunch while on the road. We got to the market about 6 minutes before their 10:00 am opening. There were about 5 vehicles waiting and once the door opened and we got out merchandise there at least 8 other cars parked. Another Turkey, bacon and cranberry and a Turkey pesto. A 2-pack of chocolate chip cookies as we left what was left of the 12 pack with our guests, and a 2 pack peanut butter. Everything we have tried so far has been delicious. Nice to k ow this place is here as you could always stop and grab for an impromptu picnic or, like we did, for the 5 hr drive home.

On our annual visit to Hayward this year, I made it a point to go back when we visited downtown Hayward because I now do own a pup, a pug/Boston terrier (a bug!) named Millie. And while I suppose she should be the one to write this review considering she was the one who ate the treats that came from this shop -- how cute would her little paws typing on a computer be!!! -- from all accounts she was impressed. In lieu of stars, five paws for Sophie's Dog Bakery! On our most recent trip, I and Millie's cousin's mom -- my boyfriend's sister -- started by perusing the toys. Sophie's sells a wide array of dog balls, squeaky toys, leashes, collars, dog bowls, etc. Among Millie's nicknames are "Millbug" and "Piggie" -- oh, the snorts! -- so when I spied a toy that looked like a pig with butterfly ears, I think I snorted in glee a bit myself! My Millbug would have a pig-bug! We made our way around to the bakery case, the centerpiece of this shop. It boasts cookies that look delicious to humans too. I got Millie a cookie iced to look like a bee -- keeping with the bug theme -- and my bf's sis got a cookie for her pup too. I also made up a grab bag from the jars of small, baked, un-iced bones and treats that top a table in the middle of the store. Many of these were made with sweet potato, pumpkin and banana. They smelled delicious! I think I spent about $20 for everything. Now, Millie is a bit of a discerning gourmand. She's not the type to eat a treat first, think later. She'll sniff, maybe lick it a bit, leave it on the ground and then perhaps eat it later. But after first giving me an eye that said, "Are you sure you really want me to eat this cookie?" she excitedly chomped her way through the cookie. She now doesn't think twice before eating a treat that comes out of the Sophie's bag. And her pig-bug? It's one of her favorite toys. Millie was impressed, so I am impressed. Can't wait to go back next year!

I've come here every summer for a few years for some decadent and decorated dog treats. Prices start about .50 for plainer cookies and $2 for fancier items reaching about $5 or $6. Friendly staff often have a cute dog behind the counter. The store also has an extensive boutique of human and dog/cat items. A fun place to browse or buy:)
