The place used to be great. Prices are so high now and you don't even get the full item. Not going back.

C Roy & Sons Meat Packers - Meat order loaded in my freezer

I purchased half a side of beef (466 lbs hanging weight) from a local rancher where the meat was…read moreprocessed at C Roy and Sons Packers. As part of their process, C Roys dry ages the meat fourteen days before processing it, which tenderizes the meat and then cuts/packages the meat per the customers personal desires which in my case was to have a steak heavy package. Aside from the numerous steaks I received, my package also included roasts, stewing meat, ground beef, Brisquet and soup bones where I am probably forgetting some of the other cuts. Each cut of meat was packaged individually with cut/date/weight info on the packaging where the ground beef was packaged in 1 lb tubes per my instructions. Realtive to the custom nature of their processing, my order included the types of steak I was looking for, thickness of the cuts of meats, bone in bone out, which roasts I wanted, stewing meat over being included in ground beef, inclusion of soup bones in order, weight of the ground beef tubes and other assorted details. This custom processing was very important to me as my wife and I are empty nesters where we share steaks and eat smaller portions. Overall I couldn't be more pleased with the process of dealing with C Roys and of buying my meat local and avoiding the crap the meat industry puts in store bought beef to include steroids and antibiotics. Total cost of the beef purchase and processing was roughly $6 lb based on the end amount of processed meat which is definately budget friendly way of getting your meat provided you have a big freezer. Considering the cost for steaks these days and the quality of the meat I received and custom nature of this business I highly recommend going this route where C Roys and Sons is a great processing option. Two thumbs up and a hearty five Stars where I will definately be returning to C Roys and Sons in the future!

It's a bit on the spendy side but it's well worth it. It is fact the reason behind Yale's baloney festival which the town has every year. Can't really say much about the business itself from my standpoint but the locals just love it. Get yourself some sandwich ring baloney you will really like it. I have also now that I think of it had their smoked hot dogs and they were very good too.

My all-time favorite grocery store. It's full of old-fashioned country charm and pleasant…read moreAmish/Mennonite/Christian staff. There were meats and multitudes of fruits and veggies straight from the farm. Too bad it's well over an hour drive from my home, otherwise I'd be here at least weekly. PROS: Some of the best prices I've seen on bacon, ham, sausages, various cheese, lunch meat, bulk flours and popcorn kernels. There are tremendous discounts on other packaged foods close to expiration date. Nice selection of smaller brand goods throughout entire store. Great candy selection, including hard to find German black licorice ropes rolled into little wheels. Lots of other licorice flavors too. Local milk in big glass jars. Log rolls of fresh butter. Various local honey, jellies, and jams. Homemade peanut butter ground in-house. Homemade pickles in white tubs. 50 pound sacks of Michigan white potatoes. Jabba the Hut sized hubbard squash. Lots of hidden deals within the frozen food section...six New York bagels @ $3.99...five pounds of pepper-jack breaded chicken breast chunks at $10.99. A special shout-out to the BEST in-store bakery I've ever seen. Most everything is made from scratch; breads, fruit pies, cream pies, fried hand pies in wax paper sleeves, various cookies, donuts, etc. They have the BEST cinnamon rolls and pecan sticky buns on this Earth (see pics). These are worth the drive alone. Note the ingredients are simple with King Arthur flour as the base. Great prices too. One of the best deli hot food counters I've ever seen. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravies, various hot vegetables, etc. Great prices. Looks like grandma made it all. In addition to the deli counter, there is a separate in-store cafeteria selling great lunch style foods like Reuban sandwiches, hamburgers, chicken fingers, fries, soups, etc. They cooked my hamburger in a cast iron pan on an old iron stove. Delicious! Great price too. The staff were extremely polite, helpful, and pleasant. Love the old fashioned check-out counters. They hand bag everything too. CONS: Too far from my home. Cramped aisles. Like any grocery store, not all the prices can compete with Wal-Mart. SUMMARY: Need a break from urban attitude? This is a no-brainer choice. Feels like walking back in time when people were nicer and food was better. Load up and drive out to the country, pretend it's a mini-vacation.

So I ordered the "premium" pizza from Joe's, the Muffuletta pizza…read more I'm really torn because I honestly don't think I got the best version of this pie. When I ordered online it said about 40 minutes. This is how long it says for just about anything I've ever ordered from here. Must be a default. When I pulled up the parking lot was pretty empty and the first thing I thought was that this pie was not going too hot because I am sure they made it right away. And I was actually 5 minutes early from the stated pick up time. There is usually a wait once you get in but my pizza was already done. When the girl handed me the box I immediately put my hand under the box and it was not hot. It was a 5 minutes drive home so it was only getting colder. When I did get home, I opened the box it looked great. I love their muffulettas so making a pizza out of the bread is a great idea. As I grabbed my first slice I noticed the pizza was not even warm. It had to have sat for 10 minutes before I even picked it up which is what I was worried about. Then, as I was trying to get the slice out I noticed that hardly any of the slices were cut all the through. I tried 3 different slices and none were cut through so I couldn't eat anything until I went looking for my pizza cutter. Yes, I had to basically slice up the whole pizza and the cutlines that were there, were not even. Some very large slices, some very small pieces. Not sure how you get slices that different in size. It was actually annoying. The taste was great, crust was cold but still very crispy. The cheese and sauce were so cold that they were already starting to thicken. Not exactly what I would expect with a $28 pie. And yes, not only did I have to cut my own pizza, I also had to microwave my slices after the first slice I ate. There was zero stretch to the cheese. So as I said, I don't think I got the best version of this pizza. It was a $28 pie that I had to cut up myself and warm it up in a microwave and that's after being early to pick it up. Not sure I'd order this again, I was really disappointed.
