My family have been students at KHK for 8+ years. The owner has always been great about working…read morewith those in financial hardships, and the instructors do their very best to prepare their students for testing. They are great about setting you up for success, and letting you know if they feel you are not ready to test.

There are some good employees that volunteer their time to help children learn the sport. However,…read morethe leading instructor and owner is terrible with young children. My grand daughter has been a student there since she was 5 years old. She is no longer a student there. And currently she is 9 years old and holds a 1st degree black belt. She has had a lot of health issues and because of this instructor her self confidence has been wrecked. He spoke to her, at times, that was just awful. He called her lazy and after almost 2 years of training he tells her she isn't ready to test for 2nd degree black belt. He postpone her first test for some hair brain reason. He had her sparing against boys that were black belts and 2 feet taller than she. She's barely 48" tall. I went to talk to him and he told me I was a bully. Far from the truth. Would you ever tell a paying customer this? There are some other schools out there and they don't have to be AAU certified. You see, KHK's selling point is they are AAU certified. What they don't tell you is that anyone can become a member of the AAU organization and by becoming a member you can strives to compete in any event that comes up as an independent. Far better schools out there. Just be careful and talk to pass members to get a feeling for this school.

I have visited this gym a few times while visiting this area due to my job. I have no complaints…read morewhatsoever about this particular gym. The staff is nice, the weights are in pretty good shape, the machines look pretty new, and it has everything that you would want to work out. Not to mention, it has a few racquetball courts, a pool, locker rooms, and even a basketball hoop. I'm not sure of the price and that is something to call about. Luckily, I get in for only $5 due to my profession. Overall, it's great.

This chain of gyms was bought out by Lifestyle Fitness…read more That's when things started going down the drain. I have been treated rudely several times by the employees. Either they are not trained properly or they follow the owners' directions (even worse). The employees (and probably the owners) know absolutely nothing about gym etiquette. Seems like they just bought this business w/o a clue of what a gym should be like to have satisfied customers. First of all, I have never heard of a gym opening at 10 o'clock, same time that the first class starts! Not even the courtesy of opening few minutes earlier to get the people in so they can do some warm up and take care of various business, like getting dressed!! They used to close at 8:30 M-Th (the earliest of any gym I've been), now they close at 7!! Incredible, never heard of such a thing. Oh, okay they sell 24-7 cards. So, I guess you're kind of steered that direction. That's pretty crappy. The monthly fee is as high as I've paid anywhere else. But now, I've not seen that monthly charge reduced to compensate for the shorter hours. They have all kinds of rules posted around the gym. You can actually walk around just to look at all the signs to entertain yourself (done that myself few times). And the funny (?) thing is that their own trainers don't follow them!! On two occasions I personally saw a woman trainer load the leg press with 4 45-lb plates per side and just leave it there ... for the next one to unload. I've been called a "ghost" by one of those working at the desk. I've been asked "to leave with me" by a woman at the desk when it was approaching 5 min. to closing. The same one that, when I pointed at the sign showing closing time half hour later, called her boss to complain because she would have gotten stuck there another 30 min. They immediately got rid of that sign and put a new one up. Every gym I've been, there is a courtesy of giving people 5/10 extra minutes to complete their workout. Don't expect that here!! Part of a gym's etiquette is to not bother someone while he is training. Don't expect that here!! I have been interrupted few times and once when I actually was under the weights! I see my review is getting pretty long. More on next installment.
