At approx. 945 at night on 8/6 I was awakened by and took my dog to go out back. There were several men in the backyard behind mine and I saw flashing lights and then a large spot light shining into my backyard on me in my nightgown. I though it must be the police so I stood still and then a man starting informing me without any intro of who he was, that I needed to move my car and open my gate so they could access a transformer that he was standing on in their backyard. I was completely taken off guard and very intimidated. I was also very confused as I thought that 1. they were already at the transformer and 2. there was zero equipment on my property for them to access. Still not knowing who they were, I told them that I could move my car but I didn't have the gate keys to the large gate....which is why the car was on the other side of it. I further explained that there was another iron fence that they would have to go through that was security for the pool and then of course the common fence. The guy who seemed to be in charge, barking orders at me then brought his trucks and crew around the neighborhood to my driveway and continued to harass me, say manipulating things and call me a liar for not being able to open the gate. After I told him that he could cut the bolt to the lock he left but INFORMED me that he may be back. I finally went back to bed and calmed my 91 yr old mom down who lives in the front room of my home and is bed ridden. About an hour later, approx. 11 at night, there was an aggressive angry banging at my door. I contemplated not going to the door however, my mother was upset. I should have called the police. It was an angry neighbor now yelling and harassing me because this man who apparently worked for tri county has been telling all of my neighbors who live directly behind me that it was MY fault they had no electricity as I would not allow them to access my property. This man said many more unprofessional and intimidating comments that I am leaving out due to the public forum however I will say that I feel threatened and afraid of him being any where near me. Now I have to fear angry neighbors and all for nothing because they were able to fix the problem within an hour of this altercation happening without accessing my property. I filed a complaint with the company and all they did was tell him that I filed a complaint on him , which made him more angry toward me as he informed me the next day when he was back in my neighborhood. If they are going to employ and retain men who have to intimidate women, you should NOT be giving them your money!! read more

I have had Tri-County for almost 6 years now... They are prompt to answer their phones, hardly ever a hold time and are very professional in helping me no matter what I needed. I have spoken to many different ladies there. Their service has always been consistent, professional and efficient! read more

They do not label meters at apartments which is a big deal! Make sure you request it from the start​

Charge about 35-40% more than other providers. Co-op monopoly. Can't use any other provider. Extortion in my opinion.

If I could give 1/2 a star I would. Our utility bill goes up every month and it's over $400 even though I have solar panels. When I called, the informed time that my bill will be going up monthly because of fuel price. But on months that fuel is cheaper, our bill still goes up. They're by far the worse company I've had to deal with. Plus living in the area that I do, we can only use them. I would not recommend them to anyone. read more

I had Tri-County for four years; in that same house, my husband had it for an additional six before he met me. I used to be irritated that we couldn't choose our service provider. I was irritated that installing solar panels wasn't even an option. I was irritated by the idea of a monopoly. And then we moved. We moved about five miles away, into a house that is ONE street past the limit of Tri-County's territory. And now we miss TCEC. In the first three months we were here, the power to much of our neighborhood went out ten times. Do you know who had power? That's right, the people with TCEC. Those with all that "choice" only have a choice of who bills them, not who controls the lines and services them. Nope, that's ONCOR, and they're the absolute WORST. The bill is higher, too, because in addition to that rate you get quoted, that one that sounds so low per kilowatt hour, you pay an additional 5 cents per kwh fee to Oncor, and they're absolute crap at maintaining the lines. TCEC is the service provider; they control the lines, they do it all. They don't offer crazy deals. They don't advertise. Like a discount store, don't have a lot of selection. They keep costs down by not outsourcing to ONCOR, and not doing the things mentioned above. Have I mentioned how much I miss them. I loathe Oncor, which is just the part of TXU that had to be spun off with deregulation in Texas. No matter who you choose in DFW, you'll still be paying TXU for your power. Had we known we couldn't get TCEC here, we'd have bought a different house. The seller's realtor might have lied to us (she also said Fios was available; it's not, only crap cable comes here), or maybe she didn't know. (I really think a realtor should know what services are available at a house they're selling. It's bad form not to.) Maybe the new meters caused people problems. I didn't have one, so I can't say. read more

I'm not sure if there's a bigger rip off in the state of Texas. Moved into this house 4 years ago....bill averaged over the year about $240 a month. Now. we're averaging $550 a month.....and there's no end in sight. We're unfortunately stuck in an area where these crooks are the only provider - therefore there is zero competition - and they clearly are taking full advantage of that. Check before you buy. If you're stuck with only Tri County - you're pretty much guaranteed to get RIPPED OFF. What a scam. read more

Update: letter of credit was finally fulfilled and handed off by a helpful employee in Keller. Refund for overpayment was mailed three weeks after ending service. Happy to live in an area where I choose my utility provider. Wouldn't use TS again unless it were mandatory. read more

Before I moved to my new apartment I was paying no more than $75 a month and my apartment square footage was larger. That was using Green Mountain Energy. I literally moved down the street from where I used to and had no choice but to get Tri-County and my bill is $150-$200 for a small apartment. This doesn't even make any sense. I use less power here since I have a lot of natural lighting and I'm able to keep my air conditioning running at 74 instead of 70 24/7. Rates are high probably because the citizens around here have no choice but to use Tri-County. read more

Dustin was an absolute pain was a smart alike through our emails when asking for the account number he emailed back saying " it's the number you used to pay the deposit" so instead of just simply copying and pasting an account number he decided to be an ass. I've lived here 10 years and during a tornado never had an outage. After a new meter was placed on our house without explanation, we have had 4 outages in less than 4 months, without a major storm. I hate that we can't choose our power company. We need alternatives! Competition is required to keep them ethical. It's like they are diverting the power to the newer more expensive subdivisions that provide a larger chunk of their profits. I have no proof of course, however it seems suspect that all of a sudden we have subpar service once the meters are replaced and multi million dollar homes are built down the road. Also when the outages occur, you can see the pattern, 20 year old neighborhoods are without power, and it's not due to the power lines, they keep on top of those. Expensive, several added charges that you are unaware of, when you call for explanation, their response to a 300$ more electric bill is, "unplug appliances". We are not living in the stone ages. I have so many issues with this company. First, I put solar on my house cause TCEC had a solar buy back program and then they started buying power from Brazos and the company eliminated the solar buy back program rendering my $13k solar panels useless. Stated that per their agreement with Brazos they were not allowed to do solar buy back any longer. For anyone serviced by TCEC do not purchase Solar. Waste of money. My most recent issue is regarding a rental property I have in the TCEC service area. Tenants moved out so I went to have the power moved into my name. I sign up online. The process was annoying but not bad. I had power then all of a sudden I received a check in the mail from TCEC for a refund of my membership fee. I called and asked why I got a check in the mail they explained that someone had requested the power be moved into their name. I asked who, the person I was speaking with said she could not provide that information. I had power in my name and anyone can come in and switch the power into their name? They said yes. I finally figured out that an old property management company which I stopped doing business with had mistakenly put the power in their name. I then called TCEC back to put the power back into my name 5 days later and so many hours of wasted time speaking with this useless company I still have no power. read more

3 outages of 1-4 hours at a time in less than 4 weeks in the heat of a Texas summer is NOT what customers should be forced to suffer. Particularly not when there is no other choice for electric service. It's clear that they are comfortable taking advantage of the monopoly they have in place. The Public Utility Commission needs to investigate their unacceptable (mis)management of equipment. read more

This is our 3rd outage in less than 30 days with some outages being up to 6 hrs in the heat of August. We have a family member with a medical condition so these outages are a challenge. If these are planned outages then the communication regarding the "plan" is poor at best. read more

My parents are deceased. I'm moving back into their home on October first. I provided TRICOUNTY with a copy of both my parents death certificates, the insurance company and bank accounts showing my name and address on everything. The POA I had when they were alive Tri County still told me they need a copy of my parents will showing I own the house or the house was left to me. The problem is I can't find the will and can't remember who the attorney was. They told me they could not accept my parents death certificates or any documents provided. I feel that TRICounty knows their the only ones that cover this area and take full advantage of this. I'm sure they kept a copy of all my documents submitted which is fine. My schedule doesn't allow me to deal with this on a daily basis as I travel 5-6 days out of the week. As of October 1st I'll be living off a generator until I can go through my storage unit that has over 4000 sq ft of furniture and a million and one boxes to locate the will. Let's just hope I can find it before the winter comes. Hey Tri County everyone is not crooked there's still honest people in this world. Do better!! read more

Very poor quality. Multiple outages with no storms. No explanation or information on when electric will be restored. Not a fan.

Wish I could give them a zero! We have called about an electric box in our backyard since April and they still have not replaced it. It is rusted out and deteriorated. The lock has been broken off. It is a hazard. Someone came out in April and said thanks for calling us as this is dangerous and should be replaced. Nothing since. I have called and called. The lady I just got off the phone with is so rude. Very frustrating and I don't understand why we can't just get an answer. read more

Bottom line if you buy a house in certain area, you are bound to the co-op. Powertochoose.org mostly has cheaper options, primarily because of the co-op's monthly $15 service fee hat raises your effective per KWH rate. So if you are looking into houses in the area, just be aware of possibly higher electric bills. My bigger complaint is the one year several hundred dollar "deposit" if you can't pull together payment history or whatever fast enough. After a year of on-time payments I found out the so called "deposit" wont actually be refunded but instead credited to future bills after a year... so best case scenario, you pre-paid a few months of your electric bill well over a year ago. I'd rather have my deposit back obviously and pay my bills when I incur them... read more

I've lived in Southlake for 10 years now and I have dreaded having to use Tri-County as my electricity provider the entire time! Most recently, we got solar panels installed. We finished installation in March 2022, but Tri-County has failed to respond to countless emails and phone calls regarding approval, so that we can actually turn our system on. In June, we just switched it on (since we are paying for them) and they finally decided to respond to us with a $2500 fine. After fining us, they still have neglected to address the real issue, which is that they need to get an engineer out to my house to inspect my panels so that I can start using them. Instead, they sent anther letter threatening to fine us again for $2500 if we didn't shut off our system within 24 hours. Obviously, summer months are the months when our electric bill is the highest, which is why we started this process in December 2021! Now we are in July, ERCOT is asking Texans to preserve energy and Tri-County is ignoring every email and phone call we have made to get the ball rolling on this thing! At this point, I'm paying for my solar panels AND a full electric bill. This is unacceptable, deplorable, disgusting, unprofessional and scandalous! read more

One Star for me. Tri-County Electric Cooperative operates in a monopoly-like quasi-governmental role in NW DFW. This wouldn't be a problem if they followed the motto of a "Commitment to Service and Savings". Fortunately for them the region they control is locked out from competition and they can charge a healthy rate above the market. Their current rate of 10/kWh is 20%-35% above best market rates at present. So much for "cooperative buying". Maybe the customer service is bad, maybe its ok...it doesn't matter you can't switch anyway. Of course they're "non-profit" which only means they're overpaying executive management and carrying other unnecessary overhead. read more
