This place is a total scam. Our first bill was $375 while running the thermostat at 76 for the month. Not ideal, but we did not want the bill to get out of hand and it was too late. Our last house in Plano was built 40 years earlier than this one had all kinds of non efficient windows, gaps in doors and poor insulation. Our highest bill there was $300 in the summer. Tri County is a great Electric company. We have been with Tri County for at least 25 years. We have probably lost power 3 times. We feel that they provide awesome service, great rates and very professional and friendly customer service. I have done price comparison and Tri County is on the low end of what the other companies offer-Can't shop around but who cares if their pricing is good?? We love being part of a CO OP - We would highly recommend Tri County Electric. read more

Horrible customer service. No respect for others time. I took off work to have solar panels installed - the solar company arrived at 730 but the contracted tri county company didn't show up until 10:30 after numerous phone calls. The inspector had to make 2 trips due to the delay. Then when I called to get an eta for my power to be turned back on once the inspector finished the Tri county customer representative told me that they are open 8-5 and that it was scheduled to be turned back on today. I asked if I could be given a 30 min window or if they could notify me when they were on the way, so I could be home to allow them access to my backyard where my meter is located because I have to pick up my kids from school and take them to after school activities. She told me that was not possible and that they won't wait, so if I'm not there my power will be off until they can come by tomorrow or i can leave my gate open (she didn't care that I have a pool in backyard that I don't want to leave accessible without supervision). This is not how you should treat customers. Extremely disappointing and part of the reason we wanted to switch to solar in the first place. Avoid using tri county if possible!!! read more

Stars? I wish we could choose asteroids. This isn't a company, its a totalitarian rule. They are the only ones that can provide electricity to our area, and in knowing that, their rates are total rip off! Their rates are at average 20% above the local competitors. Their customer service needs some serious improvement. God forbid you do anything but smile while they stick it to you. Just expect to get annihilated with deposits and fees. If there is a missed payment because of travel, missed communication etc, it IMMEDIATELY goes on your record and you are now ineligible for ANY service the offer to their clients. No average billing if 10 minutes late twice. They have no flex payment systems. (I prefer to pay every 2 weeks). This means that if I pay every two weeks corresponding with pay periods, if there is so much as $1 balance due on the day before you pay, you will be charged a $9.50 late fee and put on a "watch list". Our first year here, they failed to send out a bill and a subsequent notification. They sent a tech out to my house and shut the power off while we were inside. When I came out and asked him what happened, he said "You didn't pay your bill". I LITERALLY HAD THE MONEY IN MY HAND. I understood that sometimes these things happen. Though I was upset about the lack of communication, and called to pay. They said. "You have to come in to the office to have your service reinstated". Even though the tech was still in my yard. When I got there the jerks at the counter told me, that on top of the bill, I had to come up with an additional $300 or they weren't turning my electricity back on. I asked them when I was going to get this $300 back and they basically told me "never". After 12 months of on time payments, you will be eligible to receive the $300 back. But ONLY when you are setting up disconnection or relocation and then they will take ANY balance they feel they want out of the $300, and if there is anything left, they'll send you a check. Ever miss a payment and are relocating within their dictatorship? Forget it. You will be required to pay a deposit even if you are transferring from one house to the other. And you can kiss that money goodbye too. AVOID BUYING A HOUSE POWERED BY THIS CARTEL!!! YOU WILL REGRET IT!!! They could charge us $1 per kWh and there is absolutely NOTHING we could do about it! read more

My bill spiked 50% in this current month from the month previous...and up 50% from the same month a year ago. No major changes during this timeframe on my end...so I called to speak with someone about the issue. An automated message told me I was 19th in line and it would be 71 minutes on hold to speak with someone live. The level of customer service here is poor...because they have no competition that we can access for our electric service in this area...NO COMPETITION IN 2020! TCE left a VM a week ago about a project to replace meters in my area...and we also had a major electric outage one Saturday morning a few weeks ago...so did one/both of these issue affect my spike in electric charges? Rural electric was so important back when it was developed and protected for certain areas...but Keller is not a rural area! CS is so poor...no one available to solve problems or listen to their customer base...who are they in business for? We need another option for Keller...as our only option seems to care less and less with each passing year about your customers'... read more

we've been with tri-county in our new house now for over 9 years. with 2700 sq feet, and keeping the ac around 70-72, heat at around 68, we've yet to have a bill over $300 and that was only ONCE. my bill for April was $117. our bill did go down significantly by getting a new a/c unit last summer. I noticed @ $50 drop immediately. we also had energy efficient features installed when building (tyvek wrap & radiant barrier panels in the roofing system) I credit this to saving quite a bit. I'm kind shocked because with TXU in our older,smaller house, our bills were outrageous ! (1400 sq ft, 1980's house) one summer , the bill was $500 for July !!!! same when I lived over in Rowlett, TXU was the worst. so yes I'm pleased with tri-county. I've not have any issues, or service interruptions, (aside from blinking during a few bad storms, and rolling brownouts one summer that everyone was having, it was limited to 45 mins) bonus is we should get a decent member credit when we do move away. and ALL utilities are set for each area, I can't get any cable aside from frontier (and I do not count satellite service -even then you can only get direct tv here) , any water except from the city of fort worth, trash service here is a monopoly too. so, you CAN chose another electric "provider" but you will pay the middle man for something you shouldn't. and oncor is the direct provider. there are hidden fees in some of those lower KWH providers that are not reflected in the cost per KWH. and the stipulations are wild. research all other providers, all charge service fees, connection fees, in some manner. their low prices only apply if you use under 500 or 500-1000 kwh, anyone with a bigger house would pay more the more they use. read more

Tri County is our only option and the day we get a second option for electricity we will be switching ASAP! We have experienced nothing but rudeness and unprofessional behavior from this company. We recently moved out of Keller after more than 12 years there into an area not covered by Tri-County. In all of those years, we were treated fairly and honestly by Tri-County. We had a few hard times over those years and they were always understanding, even when we had to pay at the last minute. They actually did cut off our electricity at one point and once I dialed my anger back long enough to really look into the problem, it was our error as we had not paid in time and had mistaken the cut-off dates. All -in-all, they were an honest company to work with and as a non-profit, offer capital credits over time for their members/customers which is something you won't find with the TXU's of the world. read more

Worst Company I have had to deal with. lights been out in our street for a month now nobody bothered to come fix that. I tried to look into Solar power and was told by the Solar companies that Tri-County doesn't allow Solar panels, they pretty much refuse to work with Solar companies and make their lives miserable. Well of course because that's less money in their deep pockets. why would they allow that? They want to keep their monopoly, which I never imagined it would still exist in this country. "Take it up with the post office". This was what I was told after my electricity was turned off. I immediately called them and asked them what the problem was. I was home when their tech turned out the lights. I was told that it was for non-payment. I told them that I have paid every bill that I had received and had not received a late notice let alone a termination of service notice. I own at $170,000 house and am not going to pay a $250 electric bill? I told them that all they needed to do was let me know and it was taken care of. The only response was "well we sent out the notice on X day". I was in no position to argue with them so I stated, well, here is the money. They said, "no you have to come in and pay in person, AND there will also be a $360 deposit on top of that. But they were willing to do me a "favor" and let me split the deposit into 2 pieces to be paid over a 3 week period ON TOP of the current payment and the subsequent payment. I had no choice. I paid them what I had to, to get the lights back on. So they wanted me to pay the equivalent of 4 months' worth of bills in 3 weeks. Oh and this was a month before Christmas. I then received notice that my total amount was due the first week of January. Fine... but then on the 12th of December, they call my wife and tell her that she needs to pay the rest of it immediately or they were shutting the lights off again. This company is running a monopoly and need to be sued out of existence. They strong arm their customers and know that they can tell you to pay $10,000 dollars or freeze. And their attitudes back that up. DO NOT BUY A HOME IN THE TRI-COUNTY ELECTRIC CO-OP BECAUSE YOU JUST AGREED TO BEING A HOSTAGE!!!!! Lets talk about the deposit. If you are ever slammed with one, they tell you that as long as you make the following 12 payments on or before the due date, you will receive it back AS A CREDIT. YOU WILL NEVER SEE THIS MONEY AGAIN! If you make your payment on the due date, and it is not in person, any failure on the part of their payment collection system, bank etc, RESETS the 12 months. EVEN IF YOU MAKE IT ON THE DUE DATE, IF IT IS NOT BY THEIR ARBITRARILY CUT OFF TIME, YOURE SCREWED FOR ANOTHER 12 MONTHS!!!! This company has put my family into financial hardship. Not because of our "inability" to pay, but because their management and communication style is set up to intentionally slap their customers with fees and deposits. Professional RIP OFF ARTISTS! It may hurt the realtors, it may hurt the community, but DO NOT LET A REALTOR TALK YOU INTO BUYING A HOUSE IN THIS CORRUPT COMPANY'S SERVICE AREA! YOU WILL LIVE TO REGRET IT! Just yesterday I received my bill stating when my payment IN JANUARY was due, and today DECEMBER 12th my wife gets a courtesy call stating that the tech will be shutting our electricity off. I am putting Tri-County on notice. I am going to cost you that $360 and a ruined holiday season. Watch this company and cut them no slack. They have gone far too long holding their "owners" captive. See a driver change lanes without signaling? Call the police Department. See a tech without the proper equipment? Call OSHA. See a transformer on the ground? Rude, Unprofessional, not wiling to help or do anything for a customer of 8 years. we Made too many "late" payments in the past 12 months, so we are told we have to pay a $300 transfer fee in our new place. Not only that, their rates are SKY HIGH! There are no other options in the Keller/North Ft worth Area, so we are stuck with them. Nice Little monopoly they have going though. Ive used Reliant and TXU both. I now will never take a good, professional, and reasonably prices electric provider for-granted again. Well it seems as if I'm the minority of reviews so far! While I've yet to have to transfer service, I have called the office multiple times for different questions. Initially of course when I set up service and had questions about the deposit (which we had almost entirely waved with documentation from our previous electric company), seeing if they offered "budget billing" or something similar, and a random account question. I've had friendly encounters each time via phone, email, and in person. I haven't compared the rates to other companies since our subdivision required us to use Tri County, but I've been pleased with my bill for over a year. I know that may be due to the way we use our AC & heat, but still. We've lived in Texas for 2 years (initially in an apartment and now a house) and were shocked that we were actually allowed to choose our electric company at our apartment. Being from Missouri, you had one option. Maybe having one option in our subdivision is more like home, but I still think they've been great, especially compared to the 1 electric company in the St. Louis, MO area who did in fact raise their rates yearly and never answered the phone.
