My friend and I got the chef special 15 pieces The salmon was very soft and fresh, it was melting by itself in our mouths The service was good, a bit too fast even, they didn't want us to starve so every time we finished a place the next one was right in the middle of our table We didn't know that they do not sell alcohol there, so we wanted to have sake and we finished by passing our tour as we didn't went to go out and buy something 3 blocks away where the Saq is located Here is the hint, stop at the Saq before getting in

A few quick points worth noting: *CASH ONLY. Be sure to have a pocket full of guap. *NO ALCOHOL. If you're into pairing wine with your sushi, this ain't the place for you. *RESERVE YOUR PARTY. It's highly advised that you call ahead to avoid the wait. Peep the photos in my review and you'll regret not coming sooner. FYI, your honored cutie will be mesmerized with the decor and vibe. Style and cool points are definitely in your future my friend. Tri Express and I have quite a few things in common. We are both nestled in a hipster village, rich in texture, small in stature but full in flavor, and are both accessible by the Orange Line; Tri via STM in The Plateau (Laurier), and me via MBTA in Jamaica Plain. That only means one thing: We were absolutely destined to cross paths and culinarily knock boots, with the aid of some chop sticks. Kinky I know. The staff here are very personable and easy to spark a conversation with. The sushi chefs suggested spots to hit that locals frequent for a nights worth of some good times. You guys were great! We'll meet again very soon. *Beantowns Finest*

sashimi salad if i remember well, tastes amaaaazing

Disappointing... I prefer Saint Sushi... Its more on the pricey side, and their rolls are just okay, nothing special. Ordered the chef's special and the tri roll (the one with rice paper) and they were not impressive. The sashimi with thin apple slices was really amazing tho The decor was worth taking pictures haha

The place is small but unique and the deco is nice. Sushi is good, but not the best I've tried.

Best sushi in town. It's an old school diner converted into a sushi restaurant, and all the decorations were created by the main man Tri himself, and there's an absolute Plateau charm to the place. And the food--well, like I said, best sushi in town. Pricey? Budget between $30-40 per person. And make a reservation if you're there for a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night.

This place is hands down one of my favourite sushi places in town (apart from Park). For slightly more than a all you can eat dinner fare, you can get a good quality filling tasting menu. Unlike some of the previous reviewers, I've actually had a better experience here than at saint sushi - I found that the food was better seasoned (especially the christmas trees and the rolls). The quality of the fish was much better than the sushi buffet and the rolls were more delicately prepared and very innovative! This place does not serve your typical sushi but if you want something out of the ordinary that is full of flavour, my suggestion is Tri-Express. The restaurant can get quite busy so make sure to call and rsvp ahead of time.

Three of us tried the $25 tasting menu. It was a good price but nothing was like WOW. It seemed like this place have a lot of deliveries as the waiters were pretty busy most of the time. This is definitely a good sushi place for delivery standard, but maybe not worth the effort to go in and sit down for their food. This place does not offer authentic sushi. They put avocado in every roll, which I don't like at all. Their new style sashimi was good, creatively topped with some apple added some unique flavour. But everything else was just so so.

Dnsjahwidnemsknegngnrjejebrbw THIS PLACE IS JUST AMAZING. I have never tried sushis as good since I've been in Vancouver . Not much picture because I was with a group of people and it looked too odd! Yeah I'm old fashion , I have to let others enjoy their food before harassing them for a picture ... Anyway , the restaurant is mad busy so don't bother coming without a reservation if your party is more than three. THEY STILL DO OFFER TAKEOUTS , y'all should take that in note :) I'm a bit biased as I was invited for an event that was pretty made by the son's owner . However , the cuisine and the food was impeccable , I think I'm pretty much in one with that place . Service is very efficient and fast . The crowd is young , trendy and hipster . But no worries everyone is accepted in this place , they will still serve you with a big smile hehehe. Food is great , or A to the M TO THE A TO SO ZINGGGGG , can you hear me now ? It's just freaking amazing . Y'all gotta try the salad cause the sauce tastes so good and me likes when it melts within mah mouth . The rolls are huge and very well made , I am saying this as I have experienced Vancouver Japanese cuisine and this is on par ! Did you hear me yelper? IT IS ON PAR! Okay me thinks I'm going a little crazy , but tri express is definitely a must try in term of sushi WITHIN MONTREAL . Worry less about my words , and go discover this charming place . Hey I'll for sure become a regular here :$

Nice atmosphere. A kind of expensive but you will get excellent sushi for that. although the restaurant was full, we got our diner within 20min. If you like sushi, it is the place to be in montreal.

I LOVE this place. Like, really, I have deep, legitimate feelings of affection for this quirky joint on the corner of Laurier and Marquette, more than I have felt for a majority of actual people. Seriously though, this is the best fusion sushi I have ever had, and I am a bit of a sushi "connaisseuse" (read: total snob). The staff is friendly and unassuming, and the decor looks like the vestiges of some funky grandma's post-war antiques shop, which obviously, is *completely awesome*, Tintin statue and ceiling-affixed blowfish included. I walked into this place because it was near where I lived... but unlike many restaurants of convenience like that, I have returned even after having moved out of the area simply because it is THAT good. It's the attention to detail here that gets me. Perfectly cut sashimi, delectably seasoned mixes in the rolls, beautiful presentation and pretty much perfect portions... even the tea is outstanding (burnt rice tea, rather than the usual cheap green tea fare). One of the best places in the city I've found so far (in fact, I'm still looking to see if anything can beat it). If you're a fusion sushi fan, it's absolutely not to be missed.

Even during peak summer season the restaurant was crowded and even had a line starting to form at peak lunch hour. There are not very many large tables so don't expect a large group to be sitting together. The menu is pretty straightforward with the typical miso, tonkotsu, and shoyu broths. But they even have a tomato broth with Hokato scallops for those more adventurous. We ordered the Tonkotsu Black $19 & the Tonkotsu+ $19. Is it pricey for Ramen? Yes. But was it worth it? Yes. The Tonkotsu Black had a rich broth with prominent garlic oil. The Tonkotsu+ was really the show stopper. With 3 different styles of meat: Smoked pork pastrami, meatballs & chashu. The truffle oil was fragrant and earthy. But the biggest surprise was shiitake mushrooms. They were marinated/seasoned to perfection, with a hint of sweetness. I would've been happy with just a giant bowl of shiitake mushrooms, and truffle oil. The broth was much lighter and delicate than the Tonkotsu Black, yet strong on the truffle. If you're not really a fan of truffle, do not get this. We were tempted to go back again, but we opted to try other restaurants around the downtown area. 10/10 Would go back again! The staff are very friendly and quick. Give it a try! They have multiple locations, especially if you're looking for something new, yet comforting.

Tables are tightly situated and there's a cozy bar situation where I sat this time, able to watch the chefs cook right in front of me. The daily specials are posted on their Instagram page, as well as written on pieces of paper around the restaurant. My server quickly helped me to water and a glass of sake. I placed a to go order for one of the daily specials, the grilled sea bass with sushi rice and salad, with some kimchi. I also ordered the BBQ chicken with tortilla and salad, as well as vegetable gyoza. Everything was incredible. Truly. The gyoza came topped with green onions and was SO crispy and hot and was perfect with their soy sauce. I thought sea bass was wonderful with a unique almost smoky flavor that melted in my mouth paired with the slightly sweet sticky rice. The barbecue chicken was great as well and better the next day. One thing I don't really understand is why they served plain flour tortillas cut into quarters with their food. We didn't utilize this, nor the white butter/mayo sauce that came alongside it. I hope to eat here often, for years to come and am so happy to see this iconic Japanese restaurant still thriving years later.

I really appreciate the ease of booking and how I didn't have to think about what people were going to order. One hiccup was that I had indicated ahead of time that one of the guests had a seafood allergy, which I understand can be difficult for Japanese restaurant. I had expected them to tailor the $70 menu to her, however, they let us know that it was gonna be difficult and instead asked her to pick from the à la carte menu. She had no problem with this, but I felt bad and didn't want her to think that I had an indicated ahead of time of her dietary restriction. Overall, the meal was good. It was a little bit slow to start coming out. I think our total dining time was over two hours which was fine because we were celebrating something but for the first 30 minutes I feel like no food came out. A little bit on the salty side, but I enjoyed every dish. For the price point I think it was perfect. I would recommend this for a group dinner again. The high top tables weren't the most comfortable for such a large group as we were essentially split in two, but for a group of 6-8 it would be perfect!
