Tribal Cafe is a hippy cozy joint with a massive menu breakfast, smoothies, coffee drinks, sandwiches, and more. They're located along W. Temple st just north of DTLA. I arrived late Thursday morning to grab a coffee and breakfast. But changed my mind after seeing the food reviews. I asked for a Cafe Au Lait (Q2) but the old Filipino man cannot understand nor where in the menu it's at. I stated Q2 and it's just below Q1 (Brewed coffee). He misunderstood and thought I asked for a reg brewed coffee, they only carry one 16oz size btw. I was constraint in time, so I begrudgingly agreed. After a quick sip or two of my coffee, I thought it was ghastly! It wasn't brewed perfectly and it's too bloody roasted despite adding milk and sugar into it. For the love of coffee, this is by far the WORST coffee I ever had in my entire life. I banish my coffee to the nearest trash bin. And went for the coffee shop across the street. Atmosphere was relaxing. Interior layout and design were interesting. Menu list was massive and hard to read bec it was written in small Aerial font sharpie. Street parking only. Prices seem fair. Staff was incompetently professional. Service was ok. Overall, I had a bad coffee. And reluctant to try their other items on the menu.

Welcome to the jungle of lots to see! The menu options are vast, so many delicious desserts and drink choices, and lots of art mixed with community announcements and more. But amidst all this is that the core of the food and how it's prepared is healthy and delicious. I enjoyed a savory chicken banh mi with a Mexican mocha that was super rich in texture and flavor. Parking is a little challenging but not a deterrent. I'll be back :)

This feels like a little hole in the wall place but I would definitely recommend going ! They have a huge menu so if you get overwhelmed like me, try to plan ahead of time lol. They have juices, smoothies, açaí bowls, smoothies with mushrooms, burgers, wraps, bowls and many more ! I got an ube ice latte and it was perfect ! Not too sweet and you can still taste the coffee unlike other places. I also got a Buddha bowl #2 which is the Filipino adobo bowl. So refreshing ! My bf ordered a wrap and an ice coffee. Everything was a 10/10. Service was quick and the man who took our order was helpful. We definitely would want to come back again to try more things on the menu!

I went to tribal cafe for the first time this past weekend when visiting LA, and I loved it! I wanted to try their immune boost juice since I am getting over being sick. I had expected it to not taste so great since I don't normally love strong juices but this one was delicious. The flavors weren't too strong which is what I was worried about. I also got the turkey pesto bagel which I would also recommend. Their aioli is delish!

One of my favorite spots in LA (born and raised here) - I love coming each time and trying something new from the menu. My favorite are the Shroom Power Elixir Smoothies (Sundance) . The service is also very quick and always friendly. The ambiance is also so unique, welcoming, and supportive of the local community. You have to give this spot a try!

I visited Tribal Cafe once 12 years ago. I recently was in the area and decided to check it out again. Atmosphere-wise, not much has changed. Same eclectic earthy vibe. Even the menu offerings seems very similar. Usually I attempt to order different things from a menu. But since the Filipino FaknChikn Adobo Sandwich aka Coral Bleaching still remains to be the most unique vegan item on the menu, I was curious to see if it had improved. And you know what? It has! The "chicken" reminds me of a vegan sausage. The sauce had much more flavor. I will mention that it still didn't remind me of the flavors of a Filipino adobo but I'm not mad at it. Maybe it was more of a Mexican adobo and that's cool. It comes with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, vegan mayo, and vegan cheese. The bread roll was a perfect soft texture. Even my Meateater Hubby was impressed with this sandwich. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/tribal-cafe-los-angeles?select=o1YA9tWcGvzIyIV6C1gGUQ We also ordered a smoothie called The Tipping Point. I enjoyed the balance of almond milk, cold brew coffee, banana, rolled oats, chia, cacao, and vanilla plant protein powder. I also enjoyed the tiny bits of dates for a bit of sweetness. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/tribal-cafe-los-angeles?select=6WANqXBhAXr3TJDaHafO2A I couldn't resist ordering a slice of the Vegan Chocolate Cake. Yum! Great price too at $3.50 per slice! https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/tribal-cafe-los-angeles?select=On9e0Ies_I58QZeEOm2IGA Upgrading my rating to 4-stars! Perhaps on my next visit, I'll finally check out their other vegan sandwiches.

always love stopping by this spot. i usually either get a juice or and coffee today was a juice type of day. i will say it is a bit on the pricey side if you get the large but they have other options as well that are way less shocking lol service is always great and i love discovering new menu items on their huge list of options.

Nice place in Echo Park. I went to Tribal Cafe and ordered a waffle with sausage and ham, and a French vanilla latte. The food was tasty and filling, and the coffee was really good. The staff were very friendly and kind. I had a great experience and would come back again.

    Juice 2 & 8?
    Brenda L.

The good: I got two fruit juices (I think #2 and #8 on the juice menu) in a medium. The drinks were refreshing and pure. It was high quality juice with fruits like coconut, strawberries, mango, pineapple and orange. They filled up the container and didn't rob you of juice by adding ice. They have both and I door and outdoor space. They have a lot of great menu options outside of drinks. The bad: The total with a 10% tip and tax was just under $39 so it is definitely pricey. I felt pressure with the tip because the cashier held the machine and said "if you wanna leave some love" and it was too awkward to click the "other" and enter "0" button while he held the machine and after he said that. Both of the indoor and outdoor spaces are small. It's hot inside. There is no central a/c but they do have fans. It adds to the tropical juice shop feel. The interesting: They actually forgot to charge me and I walked out with the drinks. I realized I hadn't paid yet so I returned to do so and they didn't realize they hadn't charged me. The interior and exterior feels like you're in a third world country juice shop but the prices feel the opposite. The signs are everywhere in different spots. The door is a metal grate gate and there are boxes and supplies stacked everywhere inside.

BF7-B. Full Breakfast Sandwich with Bacon
    Shanina L.

They have a massive menu, which can be overwhelming. A wall full of different sandwiches and a separate wall for smoothies. What I liked most about the breakfast sandwiches we got are that they were filled with veggies, it was quite refreshing. The bacon and egg were cooked just right. The chicken is white chicken for the adobo sandiwhich, which Im not used to when I eat the dish but it felt healthier but could use more of the adobo sauce. Service was friendly. We went in the morning so it was easy to find street parking.

Service was very good. Sandwiches were good but not good enough to justify the prices, two sandwiches and one drink and total was $40. Cool great environment and cool restaurant a lil warm in there.

The Q7 pineapple/peach iced drink on the left and the wrong Q7 on the right
    Heather S.

I've been here a few times for the food but my favorite is the drinks. Especially the Q7 it's an iced peach and mango drink with green tea and pineapple chunks. When I got my drink it was completely different looking. It had white foam on top and it was blended pineapple. I'm not a fan of blended fruit because I don't enjoy the texture, so I already knew I wouldn't really like it as much, but I wasn't going to say anything if it tasted the same because at the end of the day that's all I care about. When I drank it though it was extremely watered down, and honestly not sweet at all. When I asked the girl there about it she kept insisting it was the same drink she just makes it different. Which first of all iced and blended drink are two different categories so no it's not the same. Which is why it's so watered down. I'm not really good at talking on the spot, so I just got aggravated and left after she kept saying it's the same, but honestly the lack of accountability was the most frustrating part. If you know you messed up just remake it, it's not that big of a deal. The menu says iced, the customer that's paying wants iced not whatever you want. I will add that she DID offer to add pineapple chunks, but seeing as the whole drink was blended full of pineapples the suggestion was not great. Which is when I was basically done and just left.

Good food, great hospitality! The vibes are great, all the staff is super nice and the food is delicious. I ordered the chicken adobo sandwich and it tastes so good and was very filling. I also got the pineapple quencher and the drink was so refreshing. The dessert was also yummy! Will definitely be coming back. :)

I stopped in on one of the hottest days of the summer and discovered this hidden gem on Sunset Blvd in artsy creative sunny Silver Lake, Los Angeles. I had heard of Naturewell and their locations (also in DTLA, on the go in their truck van for catering/events and in Altadena, formerly), but this was my first full experience trying a good variety including some of their awesome all natural snacks. I was greeted right away and got to take in everything including their extensive as well as growing collection of grab and good goodies, wellness shots and beverages. I wasn't feeling up to a bowl (definitely next time), but a Berrylicious smoothie and some truly awesome Gopal's Savory Pumpkin Seed Sprouties were the perfect mix. I went with the 20oz large size for my bev as it was a really hot day and only $1 more. My too cool for school Bar-rista even offered me a nice ice cold water while I waited as we bonded over that L.A. heat and humidity. They had some pickup orders and inquiring individuals passing by on the street and a few boxes to increase their shelf inventory. There's cute cozy chairs and tables out front, not to mention some space to enjoy their plants inside and that amazing AC. Eco friendly w/ easy cup carries for multiple drinks. They accept most forms of payment, including digital pay (Apple, Samsung, etc) and offer military discounts for those have served and/or are currently serving. Easy bike parking out front, local street parking and very close to metro stops as well as not more than 20 minutes from metro stations. Outside area in front is fairly open and pup friendly. So to encounter what I did in the midst of that was disheartening. Basically, I came in and was not greeted at all. I waited. I waited. Then, I moved closer to where the barista was working. Still nothing. Then, a man comes in and the same barista greets him. Turns out the man was picking up an order. Same as me. But he was likely with Uber Eats or Door Dash. After he took care of that man...mind you greeted, got his order and bid him ado...he still didn't attend to me. So, I finally greet him: Hi, how are you doing? I'm here to pick up a to-go order. The name is... He turns to go check and may have said something minimal. I can't remember. I do remember he never made eye contact. He must've said it's coming or something. I go back towards the front to wait. Another man enters, who is greeted by a different employee. Kindly. Takes care of the guy and even says have a good day. That same, second man brings me my to-go order. Doesn't say have a good day. I mean it's not like it's not possible, right. Don't gaslight me. I just 2 different people treat 2 different people better than I was. I check my bag and ask for utensils. He gets them. That's it. I decide to call after I left. Mind you parking stinks around this area. I would never think to come here to struggle and pay for parking and deal with bad customer service and food that is mid at best. The manager, a lady, wasn't much better. She apparently was sitting in the store and remembered me and the color I was wearing. She's basically like I saw you. I don't know what happened. I'll have to check with my staff because we don't discriminate. Mind you, ai didn't mention race. Was it because I was black? Perhaps because I was a woman? I will never know. What I do know is I was treated differently real time. Looked past. Given a lower level of priority and reception. But I'm puzzled that if this manager saw 3 very different interactions, why didn't she intervene. People have built in biased whether they are aware of it or not. And there is a difference between intent and impact. I did not feel seen. I did not feel empathy. She offered a free drink. She apologized. But it didn't feel heartfelt or sincere. You know how when you can tell when they are genuinely disappointed and want to really make it right. I told her that I didn't even live in the area and wasn't thrilled about returning. I won't return. And as I said the coffee and food was mid. Do better.

I'm frequently at Studio City, Santa Monica, and West Hollywood, so I have plenty of experience comparing the stores. Unfortunately, Silver Lake consistently stands out for all the wrong reasons. The biggest issue seems to be a serious lack of management and proper employee training. The team often appears confused about basic tasks, from printing labels to answering simple questions about prepared food. Something that should take a minute can turn into a long wait because no one seems to know what to do or who is responsible. The prepared-food experience is especially frustrating. Multiple times I've been told, "It'll be out in 10-15 minutes, they're making it now," only to wait 15 minutes and then be told, "Sorry, we were wrong--they're not making it anymore today." How does that happen so regularly? Even the food quality seems noticeably worse here. You would expect the exact same Erewhon item to be consistent from location to location, but that has not been my experience. I regularly eat the breakfast slider at Studio City without an issue, yet after eating the same item from Silver Lake, I felt sick. Even the meat and other prepared foods at Studio City consistently seem fresher to me. And the problems aren't limited to the prepared-food counter. I've purchased prebiotic yogurt here only to discover it was expired. I've also bought fruit that looked fine from the outside, cut it open shortly afterward, and realized it was so underripe that it was basically inedible and went straight into the trash. I understand that every store can have an occasional bad day. But when the problems are this consistent--from food quality and inventory information to expired products, produce quality, long waits, and employees struggling with basic procedures--it points to a management and training problem rather than an isolated mistake. For a store charging Erewhon prices, customers should absolutely expect better quality control and a much more organized operation. Today was my last visit to the Silver Lake location. I'll stick with Studio City, Santa Monica, and West Hollywood, where my experiences have been significantly better. Thanks, Silver Lake. Have a good one.
