So I went to see a physiotherapist affiliated with a major NYC hospital and medical school. Her assistant reviewed my records, took one look at my arm, and said, "You need Michelle Torres." She was right: Michelle and her team gave me my arm and hand back, and I will be grateful to them forever. First, Michelle is an absolute expert. She carefully explained every detail of my injury and recovery (much more clearly than the doctors did) and knew exactly what was needed to fix my arm, from shoulder to elbow to hand. I couldn't even write my name at my first appointment, but regained new abilities every week. Second, Michelle actually made the entire process enjoyable. In the center of her large, open office is a curved table, with patients doing various exercises on one side and Michelle or Liz on the other, giving individual guidance and help. Although every person there is recovering from injury or illness, and probably even working through pain, the room is always filled with conversation and laughter. Everyone is working hard while smiling, laughing, and sharing experiences in English, Spanish, or a combination of both.
