I initially booked an appt for a full highlight and a haircut. After seeing stellar reviews, I went with Christiano and he did not disappoint! He was very honest about what he can do to improve my hairstyle, since I had highlights done couple months, that root touch up would suffice and would still give the same refreshed look. I also got a haircut that I normally wouldn't go and cut short and he exceeded my expectations and made sure every step of the way to reassure what he was doing to my hair so if I changed my mind, he can always pivot. I needed a trim BADLY; my long hair was past my belly button and hadn't been cut for at least a year. Yelp led me to Tricho! I called and they were able to accommodate me in 30 minutes, which was amazing. Their space is easily seen/accessible from the Briarwood Mall parking lot. I didn't realize how large the space was! It's really sleek & modern with LOTS of stations. Gabriella was awesome! I generally am REALLY reluctant to have new people cut my hair. Back home in California, I went to the same hairdresser for 20 years. But, it helped that Gabriella sat me down first and talked me through her game plan. She made sure I was aligned before she proceeded! I was in and out in 30 minutes with a great trim and some styling. While the trim itself was pretty much like any other, it was my stylist Frelinda that made the experience memorable. She was personable and more importantly so knowledgeable when it comes to everything hair, thanks to her past 16 years or so working with Tricho. Frelinda gave lots of thoughtful hair tips while washing and cutting my hair. She suggested including long layers to add some style, which I'm glad I took her up on. They look great. She even offered a complimentary 10-minute deep conditioning treatment after noticing how fried my hair looked. Great stylist - I hope to book future hair appointments here with her! I've also had a fantastic experience here with Madelyn, who both cut my hair and did my nails. This particular haircut was maybe 3 years ago, but was also a memorable experience that I hope helps to highlight Tricho's consistency in providing great service. I used to have a triangle-shaped undercut on the base of my skull. It was fun, but such a pain to maintain. I had to have it touched up at least once a month since my hair grows out fast, but it's even more annoying because most salons in the area I called ahead of time for a price estimate said they would charge $30-45 despite it being only a small trim on an undercut that takes up less than a quarter of my scalp. Madelyn offered to trim my undercut for only $5 and even put in a simple striped design inside the triangle for fun. I really wish I had taken a picture of it to post for reference. I don't know if this is required at Tricho or just a way to build their personal portfolios, but my stylists have sometimes taken pictures of my hair or nails after the appointment. Even if it was a requirement, it was obvious they loved their jobs as stylists and were proud of a job well done. They really seemed to care about me as a client every time I've visited and cared about doing excellent work. Additionally, customers are offered water, tea, or coffee when they come in to wait for an appointment. There is also a nice seating area for people waiting on appointments and clean bathrooms. As a heads up, the prices here are somewhat expensive, and they only let you tip in cash. All in all, however, I do recommend Tricho's nail and hair services! read more

On a student budget, Tricho can sometimes seem a little stretch to the wallet to go for a cut and color once every 3/4 months. However, when I save up for my hair, this is the place I always come to in Ann Arbor and 100% of the time get what I asked for. For the cost, I used to be inclined to give Aveda Institute another chance, but countless mistakes they made (turning chocolate highlights red, charging me for a redo and now my hair having a red undertone that wont go away since no highlights job should EVER take 6 hours for shoulder length hair) made me say never again. Stylists: Danielle (special mention) and Amanda I came to them with my Aveda damage (read - hair in 3 colors, some blonde, some red, some black) and seriously needed a redo without adding more bleach damage. The mushroom blonde that Danielle gave me has now become my go-to look for a year, and the touch up she did on it pre lockdown has me looking presentable through this period. When I specify a haircut, I can trust her to keep the length when I say keep the length and remove an inch at most. With my thick hair, I struggle to curl it to get beach waves and she taught me how to do it on my own and was so patient with my slow learning. Can't wait to go back to the salon once it opens! They are all so friendly and talented. Pro tip: a toning touch up costs $40, and you don't have to spend full price on highlights again. I didn't know this and went in prepared so spend $200++, but was pleasantly surprised. Can be pricier to get a trim here vs a proper haircut since $50++ for managing only split ends is on the high end, but a professional haircut for the price is great. read more

Finally! I finally found a place for blowouts in Ann Arbor. I admit that I was hesitant to try Tricho, since I could not imagine that a nice salon could ever be affiliated with dumpy Briarwood Mall, but I was desperate - So, I finally booked an appointment. Since that first visit, I have been to Tricho on many occasions for blowout services. I always just book based upon time preference, since every stylist has been excellent. The salon is massive and seemingly busy at every hour of the day. Aside for the blowouts that I seek, Tricho is a full service salon. Although I am faithful to my stylists elsewhere for cut and color, based upon my positive experiences, I would definitely come to Tricho if I were looking for someone new. Finally, the price for a blowout is $40 (add $5 if you want curls). They carry the best products, including my favorites: Oribe, Kerastase, and Bb. And, since the salon is inside the mall, parking is easy and plentiful in the usual mall flat lot. read more

Beware: Make sure you have a huge pocket book for mediocre work. Extremely rude and money hungry. I had my hair done by Mariah at the Ann Arbor location. I have been to her one time prior to covid and wanted to check her out again for a nice treat after giving birth to my newborn. I simply asked for an all over hilite, with no cut. She seemed very brief in her consult with me and did not go over pricing at all. I am also a stylist so i am aware of cost and what she had to do as far as that goes. She did a nice job the first time and i chose to use her again. She finished the job, rinsed, toned, and blow dried my hair. Nothing spectacular. But i was def. a lot more blonde as expected with bleach lightening. She took me to the counter and showed me products available and told me to get a hold of her in the future. As I was going to book an appointment she didn't even encourage it. Finally as I get to the counter... the young girl gave me my total of $245! For a Hilite. I did not have color Correcting and my hair was fairly easy to work with. Nothing major. This pricing was extremely higher than the first time i came which was earlier in the year. I paid it but felt really blind sided by it all. I couldn't even bring myself to buy the $60 hair product that she told me was $40. Anyways--- I get home and messaged Mariah my concern about why i paid so much this time and she told me it was all laid out on her brochure her pricing and that I was late to my appointment anyways! LOL! She said that there was a $5 add on and the blow dry was $35 as well. She did not ask me if I wanted a blow dry she just started blow drying and did not even give me the option of leaving with it wet because it would be a huge up charge nor did she tell me about a cleaning fee of $5? To wipe down her chair? The first time I saw her she gave me a few colors and I beleive it was more of a color correction and I still paid more this time. She was rude to me in her response and had no reasoning as to why I had paid so much and didn't even care that she never gave me the option to purchase her added on blow dry. She basically tried to blame me for why her pricing was so high and said i waited too long to get back in! Due to covid and being pregnant, she was extremely snobby in her response! Treated like a dollar sign. I will never go back. Unprofessional and degrading towards an unhappy client who feels robbed to be honest. And misled. BEWARE! I got a haircut at Tricho for the first time with Lindita yesterday. I haven't had someone new cut/color my hair in years and my hair is very dark, so I was a little nervous about having someone new take bleach to it. I told Lindita that I wanted to grow my hair out and that I wanted the highlights to be a brown, natural color, so she was careful not to cut off too much and she toned the hair carefully (you can always go darker, but it's hard to go lighter) to get it to a natural-looking brown color. She was friendly and my hair looks great!! More generally, the salon is professionally run and they're taking COVID seriously -- masks on all employees and patrons, distanced seating, no indoor waiting room, and a required health waiver at the door. They could consider adding a temperature check as well, but overall, it felt safe. Lastly, I had a mishap with some bleach on my clothing, and the salon took it very seriously / handled it well. I had my bridal hair done here with Donielle this past weekend and she did a phenomenal job!! I couldn't have been happier with the style. I came in wanting a very soft and romantic braided style with flowers, and it turned out that I had a bit too much hair to do the style exactly as it was pictured (I have super thick hair that goes to the middle of my back) so Doni had to get creative. She worked around the issue of how much hair there was to work with and turned out a stunning hairstyle that everyone was complimenting throughout the wedding. I'm going back to her tomorrow for a cut! I also got my makeup done with Ashley who was amazing as well. She took my suggestions and rolled with them, and I truly felt the most beautiful I've ever felt in my life! She was extremely responsive and listened to exactly what I requested. She knew so much about what she was doing and helped me pick out colors that would blend well with my hair. She applied them so seamlessly with the cut and color and I was in love. I am extremely disappointed with the service I have received at Tricho Salon. I called about a month ago asking for assistance with color matching for hair extensions, and the front desk person lady had me speak with the hair extension stylist. She suggested that I schedule an extension consultation. The appointment was scheduled and I was more than happy to have a professional consultant help with extension options. I arrived at the appointment on time and waited over an hour. Once I was seen by the stylist she was multitasking and working on another girl's hair while doing my consultation. I was wanting hair extensions for my wedding day hair and specifically showed her the hairstyle I was wanting. I told her I did not want permanent extensions and she suggested the halo couture design. She placed the halo on my hair and the color worked great and it seemed easy to use, and she suggested the 22-unch length. The consultation was only 5-10 minutes total after waiting for over an hour. I went to the front desk after and said I would like to order the halo couture. Both front desk ladies, and the hair extension stylist did not know how to order, what information they would need, how long it would take, or the price. They stated that they would call me with the information. They sent me a text a few days later with the price of the halo extension which was $670. I was SHOCKED at how much it was and needed some time to think. I called the Salon asking if I could just see the halo couture extension in my hair again and get pictures to justify the purchase prior to confirming and putting money down . This was not an option and the front desk lady said I would have to make an appointment with the hair extension stylist again. I was already on my way there, and they gave me the stylist phone number to text to find a time to work. I was texting with the stylist and she only had one time that would work the following day at 1:30 pm. I asked if I could confirm or let her know if I could or could not make it in the morning, and never got a response back saying she had me down on her schedule or that the appointment was for sure happening. The following day I get a call from Tricho salon, stating that I was 20 minutes late to my appointment (that I did not know was scheduled), and that they would have to cancel. I called back explained the situation and asked if I could schedule another hair extension consultation. This time there was a note on my profile that I had to put $50 down for the appointment. I gave them my credit card information and paid the $50. I showed up this appointment 5 minute early. I waited 50 minutes again for my appointment. Again the stylist was working with another girl's hair at the same time, and the student she was working with that day was primarily the one helping with the consult. The stylist asked what questions I had and that she can answer my question and work on the other girls hair simultaneously. I asked again about the style and length, and the color match. I got the pictures of the back of my head and the front. The consultation again was only 5 minutes after waiting for 50 minutes. I went to the front desk and asked two girls again if I could order this, again they could not order and said someone else will have to call me. I got a call Thursday, May 9th to purchase the Halo Couture Extension. I gave them my credit card information, and the lady asked me if I had any idea on how long these would take to come in, I said no I have gotten zero information and as the customer I was hoping that they would provide this information. Fast forward, Friday May 10th I had my pre-trial wedding hair and makeup appointment. I explained to the hair stylist that I ordered a halo extension, and showed her videos and photos of the hairstyle I was wanting for the wedding. She told me that she would not recommend the halo couture extension, and that 22 inches was way too long to incorporate with my natural hair. She said that clip in extensions would be better to get the fullness and length needed for my hair. I was devastated!!!!! To summarize, I waited over 110 minutes for a ~15 to 20 minute total consultation time spanning over 3 different encounters with tricho salon. I have now spent $670 on a hair extension that is not what my hair stylist for the day of the wedding would recommend; specifically that the length was not close at all to what she would recommend and the halo style was not appropriate for the look I was going for. I trusted and was very patient with Tricho salon, and thought I was getting the right product for my hair. This was not the case. I called to cancel my order and had to try 4 different times. Once somebody answered the phone, they stated that they cannot help me because a manager is not in today. I am extremely upset and disappointed. Would highly suggest going anywhere but here for hair extensions. read more

I guess I would have received a better haircut if I choose to lie about my hair care. For waxing, get a new bowl of wax and sticks--they reuse the same wax for multiple people, and redip with the same stick throughout pubic and face. Or don't.... Not even sure how to rate this. I've been going to tricho for 10 years, so obviously there are some amazing stylist, and I've never left feeling unsatisfied in any way. However, this is the first time that I've left feeling so upset. I had to schedule an appointment before a wedding, and my regular stylist (Julia Jaynes) didn't have any availability. They scheduled me with "one of their more experienced stylist", so I thought things would be great. Not so much. I ended up spending an extra $80-$90 on treatments that she never asked me if I wanted, and certainly never discussed price. Then charged me for a $50 trim..... Which was barely anything! And I'm not even happy with the end result which makes it worse. I called the manager, and all she said was that every stylist charges differently, and that she told me I'd be with one of the more experienced stylist. Which is interesting because I've never left feeling unsatisfied by my usual stylist. The customer service aspect is more than lacking( at least in a managerial aspect) , and I won't be back. CURLIES BEWARE. I have been getting a my curly hair cut at Tricho by the same stylist for almost 2 years. I called on a Wednesday to get it cut like usual and was informed that my usual stylist wasn't there anymore and I asked if anyone else was DIVACUT trained they said yes and scheduled me with one of the stylists. For those who don't know, a Divacut is always done dry but when I arrived Saturday for my cut the stylist immediately ushered me over to the hair washing station. I mentioned that I always get my hair cut dry again referring to how DIVACUTs are done and she insisted so I obliged. She cut my hair wet and diffused with high heat (I had told her I don't use heat on my hair). After I spoke with the manager they insisted they had been clear she wasn't divacut trained. They were not and now my curls that I have been meticulously caring for are in shock and I don't know when they'll be back to normal. I left in tears and will never be back. I know this is long but if you are a curly girl/guy you'll know how important it is for the person cutting your hair to know what they're doing, and people should what will happen if you go here for curly hair. read more

Under normal circumstances, I get my haircuts at a barbershop in Toledo. However, due to an unfortunate bubble gum throwing incident that took place in Ann Arbor (unfortunate for me and EXCEEDINGLY unfortunate for my son) I was forced into Tricho for the urgent extraction of grape flavored Bubble Yum. Besides that, I actually needed a haircut anyway. Codee's schedule was full but, given the circumstances, he was able to fit me in. Now, if you read the other reviews, it's pretty obvious that Codee is very popular with his female clients, but I'm here to say that he gave me, a man, what was probably the fastest and best haircut that I've had in years. Considering the bubble gum debacle, I was willing to accept a slow, tedious repair, but this kid didn't miss a beat! I was in and out in less than 20 minutes! If I lived in Ann Arbor, Tricho is where I'd come for my haircuts, and Codee is who I'd ask for. Hell, I'm half tempted to make the drive up from T-Town on a regular basis! 5 stars! I was told that Brandon was fabulous so I got her an appt that same day. She had hair down to her butt and asked him for a trim with a few layers. Told us he had been cutting hair for 8 years. He finished the cut and blew her hair out. I didn't notice the extreme damage that was done until we got home and she started analyzing the cut. I've heard good things about this salon, so i was excited to go and do something nice for myself. Not only did they not listen to what I wanted, I was passed between stylists and they did not communicate what I had asked for, leading to a botched end result. The stylists knew it looked terrible, pointed it out, and charged me a ridiculous amount for color correcting and time spent there, all because it had been done incorrectly. The stylists were hugely unprofessional and rude to me, saying I looked horrible which just made me feel awful. Would not recommend and am never going back. read more

Fate has blessed me. One afternoon I randomly walked in for a blow dry. Armando was the one who got to style my hair. It was literally like fate sat me in the right chair. We clicked and he just..understands my style and what I want from my hair without me even..talking. The next week I booked a hair cut with him. I haven't cut my hair in..like two years. Welp, he won me over with that too. He kept it long like promised, but it IS SO MUCH HEALTHIER and has a great style. Two weeks later I saw him for some color. Ok. I die. He did the most amazing job and spent 3 1/2 hours basically on my hair. I can not thank him enough or tell you all to book with him NOW enough. Especially if you have a ton of hair and are wary of people doing stuff to it. I finally found someone again I trust with this and..we have fun while doing it. Yeah. Win/Win! read more

I had my engagement photo shoot last Sunday, and since I've never been great at curling my own hair, I decided to book a blow dry & style appointment at Tricho. Based on positive reviews that I'd read, as well as the high price points, I made the assumption that I could trust the caliber of work enough to be photo shoot ready upon leaving. This was not the case. During the blow dry, my stylist was approached by the receptionist and asked, "how much longer do you think you'll be?" with a worried side grin. They proceeded to talk about the client after me, and how she had time constraints, and needed a color, cut & style. Needless to say, my stylist rushed through the rest of my service - I paid, and left.. and my curls were non-existent before I even got home... and I was greeted by my fiance asking, "you paid for that?!"
