I paid $280 to be extremely disappointed. They did take me back to fix it but still not worth the time and money.

I paid $280 for this, and unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the result. The last time I visited, they did something similar, just highlighting the hair in broad strokes without taking the time to make it not look streaky. While it wasn't as noticeable then, I thought I'd give it another try. However, this time the outcome was far worse. They took me back to fix it but still not worth the time and money.

Carrie did my pedicure and manicure, and I highly recommend. She was clean, professional, and quick. She was also very efficient and personable, which I appreciated. :) I've also received many compliments on my nails so far!

TL;DR: 1) Recommended hair stylists: Frelinda, Madelyn 2) Recommended nail techs: Madelyn, Miranda 3) Recommended services: haircut, nails (Shellac) 4) Amenities: Beverages (water, coffee, tea), seated waiting area, clean bathroom -------- Most of my hair cuts have been largely unmemorable, probably because I usually ask for just a boring trim these days. While the trim itself was pretty much like any other, it was my stylist Frelinda that made the experience memorable. She was personable and more importantly so knowledgeable when it comes to everything hair, thanks to her past 16 years or so working with Tricho. Frelinda gave lots of thoughtful hair tips while washing and cutting my hair. She suggested including long layers to add some style, which I'm glad I took her up on. They look great. She even offered a complimentary 10-minute deep conditioning treatment after noticing how fried my hair looked. Great stylist - I hope to book future hair appointments here with her! I've also had a fantastic experience here with Madelyn, who both cut my hair and did my nails. This particular haircut was maybe 3 years ago, but was also a memorable experience that I hope helps to highlight Tricho's consistency in providing great service. I used to have a triangle-shaped undercut on the base of my skull. It was fun, but such a pain to maintain. I had to have it touched up at least once a month since my hair grows out fast, but it's even more annoying because most salons in the area I called ahead of time for a price estimate said they would charge $30-45 despite it being only a small trim on an undercut that takes up less than a quarter of my scalp. Madelyn offered to trim my undercut for only $5 and even put in a simple striped design inside the triangle for fun. I really wish I had taken a picture of it to post for reference. I don't know if this is required at Tricho or just a way to build their personal portfolios, but my stylists have sometimes taken pictures of my hair or nails after the appointment. Even if it was a requirement, it was obvious they loved their jobs as stylists and were proud of a job well done. They really seemed to care about me as a client every time I've visited and cared about doing excellent work. Additionally, customers are offered water, tea, or coffee when they come in to wait for an appointment. There is also a nice seating area for people waiting on appointments and clean bathrooms. As a heads up, the prices here are somewhat expensive, and they only let you tip in cash. All in all, however, I do recommend Tricho's nail and hair services!

On a student budget, Tricho can sometimes seem a little stretch to the wallet to go for a cut and color once every 3/4 months. However, when I save up for my hair, this is the place I always come to in Ann Arbor and 100% of the time get what I asked for. For the cost, I used to be inclined to give Aveda Institute another chance, but countless mistakes they made (turning chocolate highlights red, charging me for a redo and now my hair having a red undertone that wont go away since no highlights job should EVER take 6 hours for shoulder length hair) made me say never again. Stylists: Danielle (special mention) and Amanda I came to them with my Aveda damage (read - hair in 3 colors, some blonde, some red, some black) and seriously needed a redo without adding more bleach damage. The mushroom blonde that Danielle gave me has now become my go-to look for a year, and the touch up she did on it pre lockdown has me looking presentable through this period. When I specify a haircut, I can trust her to keep the length when I say keep the length and remove an inch at most. With my thick hair, I struggle to curl it to get beach waves and she taught me how to do it on my own and was so patient with my slow learning. Can't wait to go back to the salon once it opens! They are all so friendly and talented. Pro tip: a toning touch up costs $40, and you don't have to spend full price on highlights again. I didn't know this and went in prepared so spend $200++, but was pleasantly surprised. Can be pricier to get a trim here vs a proper haircut since $50++ for managing only split ends is on the high end, but a professional haircut for the price is great.

So happy with my visit here. First time at Tricho, and Brittany was my stylist. LOVED HER! I had grown out highlights and went back to my natural brunette. She asked me many questions to understand what I was looking for, guided me through all the steps, showed me the process and what she was doing, AND was so informative, telling me how to protect my hair, shampoo recommendations, and what to expect in the next months. So professional and sweet. Great experience.

HORRIBLE WASTE OF MONEY. charged me $30 for a Toner?! Completely uneven application. Warm on my ends and WHITE on my top.

Beware: Make sure you have a huge pocket book for mediocre work. Extremely rude and money hungry. I had my hair done by Mariah at the Ann Arbor location. I have been to her one time prior to covid and wanted to check her out again for a nice treat after giving birth to my newborn. I simply asked for an all over hilite, with no cut. She seemed very brief in her consult with me and did not go over pricing at all. I am also a stylist so i am aware of cost and what she had to do as far as that goes. She did a nice job the first time and i chose to use her again. She finished the job, rinsed, toned, and blow dried my hair. Nothing spectacular. But i was def. a lot more blonde as expected with bleach lightening. She took me to the counter and showed me products available and told me to get a hold of her in the future. As I was going to book an appointment she didn't even encourage it. Finally as I get to the counter... the young girl gave me my total of $245! For a Hilite. I did not have color Correcting and my hair was fairly easy to work with. Nothing major. This pricing was extremely higher than the first time i came which was earlier in the year. I paid it but felt really blind sided by it all. I couldn't even bring myself to buy the $60 hair product that she told me was $40. Anyways--- I get home and messaged Mariah my concern about why i paid so much this time and she told me it was all laid out on her brochure her pricing and that I was late to my appointment anyways! LOL! She said that there was a $5 add on and the blow dry was $35 as well. She did not ask me if I wanted a blow dry she just started blow drying and did not even give me the option of leaving with it wet because it would be a huge up charge nor did she tell me about a cleaning fee of $5? To wipe down her chair? The first time I saw her she gave me a few colors and I beleive it was more of a color correction and I still paid more this time. She was rude to me in her response and had no reasoning as to why I had paid so much and didn't even care that she never gave me the option to purchase her added on blow dry. She basically tried to blame me for why her pricing was so high and said i waited too long to get back in! Due to covid and being pregnant, she was extremely snobby in her response! Treated like a dollar sign. I will never go back. Unprofessional and degrading towards an unhappy client who feels robbed to be honest. And misled. BEWARE! Her attitude upon asking her reasoning for pricing was so rude and entitled it made me wish i never went and has ruined the whole experience in itself. Tricho your in a run down mall off the highway.... and Mariah please inform your clients to bring half a grand for your mediocre service.

Beautiful new spot in Briarwood. Got a blow dry and style for $30 in prep for a holiday party. Professional and inviting but updated and edgy. Loved it. I don't know that I would find a full time stylist I like enough to take me away from VOX, as they have a army of chair renters and a lot of them appear to be newbies but this is a great place if your stylist has a chair there, or you need a quick affordable service. Front staff is very knowledgeable of all their professional products. They carry all the Kerastase options.

It held up all day through 80° heat AND rain at our ceremony!

I had my bridal hair done here with Donielle this past weekend and she did a phenomenal job!! I couldn't have been happier with the style. I came in wanting a very soft and romantic braided style with flowers, and it turned out that I had a bit too much hair to do the style exactly as it was pictured (I have super thick hair that goes to the middle of my back) so Doni had to get creative. She worked around the issue of how much hair there was to work with and turned out a stunning hairstyle that everyone was complimenting throughout the wedding. I'm going back to her tomorrow for a cut! I also got my makeup done with Ashley who was amazing as well. She took my suggestions and rolled with them, and I truly felt the most beautiful I've ever felt in my life! She was extremely responsive and listened to exactly what I requested. Perfect and reasonably priced bridal hair and makeup :) Both my hair and makeup survived the day completely - it rained during our ceremony and was humid throughout the rest of the day and everything held up perfectly. Thank you Doni and Ashley!

Extensions final project hair by Donnie
    Jaime M.

If you've ever thought about getting extensions, go here to Donnie! I went in for my consultation and knew she would be the perfect person. She knew so much about what she was doing and helped me pick out colors that would blend well with my hair. She applied them so seamlessly with the cut and color and I was in love. She truly cares about the health of your hair and extensions and gets you on a hair lift routine. She was always available for all my random questions. I took them out for a while but she will be my go to hair person for now on wether it's for a fresh set of extensions or color/cut. On that note when I took my extensions out I told her to cut all my hair off and she did not dIsappoint with my cute bob hair cut!

Hello! I used henna (Light Mountain Natural - bright red) on my hair 2-3 years ago. Would it be possible to go blonde after doing this? Hair is currently medium brown. Thanks.

What is the pricing for just getting your ends trimmed vs a regular hair cut?

Should be the same price, since the stylist is doing the exact same thing for both. Removing hair is removing hair, the amount of it doesn't matter. A "trim" is a haircut.

Do they dye hair colors like pink?

I would go to Charlie for this. I've watched her dye multiple people's hair when I'm getting my hair done and she usually has a fun color herself!

Do you have posted somewhere a price range for balayage partial/full? I see you have highlights listed however, I know a balayage is usually pricier. Thank you in advance for your help!

I always book with Cameron Hawley, and honestly, he just gets hair. I don't trust many people with mine because it's taken me a long time to grow it out and take care of it, but he was the first person to cut it after two years of no trims, and I've been coming back every three months ever since. My hair has never felt better. I also brought my mom once, she wanted a short haircut, but Cameron made a better recommendation based on her face shape, and it turned out amazing. She left feeling so confident and beautiful! I've also been doing the strengthening treatment with my cuts, and it's made my hair noticeably healthier and shinier. This time around, I came in for a trim and a Keratin Express treatment, and the results were wowwwww. With all the rain lately, I usually get a ton of frizz, but this treatment actually works and is totally worth the hype. I also picked up a few products Cameron recommended including a mousse, an anti‑frizz serum, and a thermic treatment. Full disclosure: I'm a Kérastase lover and have been using the brand for years, but I didn't know about these specific treatments. Now I'm obsessed. My hair feels so smooth, glowy, and healthy. If you're picky about who touches your hair, Cameron is your guy. I couldn't be happier with the results every single visit!!!!

I was getting my hair color done by Julia every 5 to 6 weeks just the roots and she fried the crown of my hair to the point where it feels like straw and is broken off! I will attach photos to my review. She was more concerned about timing and getting me in and out as quick as possible within the hour. She did not care about the health of my hair. She was using 40 volume and lying to me and telling me it was only 20 volume and she put me under the heater so of course the crown of my hair broke where the heater circulates. So the top of my head is only 2 inches now I can literally make a mohawk out of the top of my head only. It's going to take me years to grow it back. I'm not trying to write a whole paragraph but Julia did tell her Manager that I was upset about the breakage, and the only thing the manager offered was a free Kerastase protein/conditioning treatment. Since I'm in the entertainment industry, this has caused big problems for me as I have interviews lined up this month with us weekly, People Magazine, Dr. Phil, etc. Since all of the breakage, I had to get extensions to cover up all the breakage so One One Nine Salon suggested I go to Sarah who works there for extensions, she charged me $2800 for the extensions and an additional $500 to do my color which was Baby root not even a half inch and she broke my hair even more coloring the ends to try and blend the extensions with my real hair and it broke off. The extensions she put in after three nights of sleeping started to break my hair off and become so loose that it was hanging off of my head. I'm going to attach pictures. They overcharge and no one has enough experience or takes the time to do your hair in quality way. All they care about is getting you in and out and getting as much customers in there in one day as possible. Clearly, the manager does not care because I haven't been able to speak to the manager directly or even get any compensation for what's happened. Long story short if you were blonde, I highly suggest you do not go to the salon and definitely do not get extensions by Sarah.

Because the stylists are in school, they have a supervisor check the cuts to make sure you like them at the end which is something I appreciate. I am a bride who started engaging with Aysha for her bridal hair services during January this year. My wedding is in September, it is August now. Just a few days ago, Aysha upped her prices for her bridal services a month before my wedding, telling me that this reason is to honor "inflation." When I refused, telling her she needed to honor the contract I signed at the time of "booking" her, she claimed that contract was not real because she did not countersign it. She also told me explicitly that she could raise the prices as she pleased as it was her business. Lastly, she said if I was not comfortable with the upped charges, that she will find another artist of "lesser cost" to me. The thing is, I paid Aysha a Zelle deposit for 30% of the services at the time I "booked" her and signed the contract from my side. Although money was exchanged, she is somehow claiming this was not a real contract. Right after she did this to me, I took the night to properly evaluate my experiences with her - which were all really awful. She never responded to me on time. She belittled me when we spoke. She took advantage of my stress as a bride. The next morning, I chose to not proceed with her bridal hair services (after she increased the prices for "inflation"). Since she was alleging this contract was not valid, she has no case to keep my money. I called her to tell her this and to return my deposit, but she told me "she does not think she can return it," because "it is only a month away from the wedding date." (Tell me how ironic it is that she even attempted to argue that, considering SHE was the one originally threatening to cancel her services on me if I didn't agree to pay her more! And, imagine how I felt as THE BRIDE when she called to threaten the validity of her contract with me, one month before the wedding!!!) She then tried saying that she would consider honoring the original contract prices to avoid paying the deposit back to me, but I did not want a hair stylist who manipulated me that way... she broke my trust! She said she would call me back, but she did not. I tried calling her - she did not pick up. I emailed her documenting all the horrible things she did to me (she is extremely disorganized; she could not even remember which bride I was whenever she would finally respond), also using that email as a formal written notice to ask for my money back by that Friday, and she did not even respond. Even before she increased her prices to me, Aysha had always been flaky with me and sometimes took months before she responded to my emails and texts (this was true even after I paid her my deposit and thought we were booked). As a bride, every day can feel like a year when you are planning every detail out, so punctuality and accountability with your vendors is critical. I learned I was not the only bride who experienced this, but I learned too late. Some girl who I know personally also experienced an extremely similar case, but she did not speak up because she thought it would not change anything. I only found out by expressing my angst to a friend that many other brides were in the same boat as me. It appears there are others even on Yelp who also went through what I did. I beg of all brides who experienced the same things as us - please do your part and LEAVE AN HONEST REVIEW! So if she is that bad, why all the positive reviews, you ask? In my opinion, I think this is because Aysha knows how to charm people. Even after telling me she was increasing the prices, which is completely unacceptable given the pretense of a contract we had, she somehow played the victim card by saying she shouldn't have booked a bride who couldn't honor her "high prices." I was perfectly willing to pay the amount we agreed to in writing, but somehow she was repainting the narrative. It's very manipulative behavior! When she raises her prices shortly before a bride's wedding, the bride will likely just pay it to make sure the booking still is valid. Unfortunately for Aysha, I am not that kind of a bride, and I am going to take every appropriate, legal action I can to get my money back and spread the truth. If you are a bride, please - don't end up in my shoes. Listen to the reviews, do your research, and pick someone reliable. It's your special day! Please, pick someone deserving to do your hair. Positive vibes only.
