Maybe it's when I let the cuticles get too ragged, but every so often my husband likes to spoil me with a gift card to Fran Coys. I've been a few times, once recently for a microdermabrasion and Vitamin C facial. I do my best to care for my skin every day (sunscreen, retinol, Vitamin C serum, glycolic acid), but I was hoping for a little boost with the microdermabrasion and facial. It felt good and the aesthetician was knowledgeable, but the results were underwhelming. For my next trip, I decided on a pedicure. It's hard to go wrong with the relaxing foot soak and the tiptoes that look like a perfect 10 for weeks afterwards. The massage chairs are some of the best that I have ever used at a nail salon - the pressure and range of the kneading hit the spot. As it kneaded away, I chose my color of OPI polish. I loved having the aesthetician shape, soothe, and polish my feet to perfection. She had a great touch and the end result was perfect looking feet. I've been there a few times and every time was terrible. I gave them one last try and it will be my final. Terrible customer service. Made an online appt they never received, the Saturday I wanted they were closed for the day. When I arrived for my appointment they had me in the system for a facial, but I was there for a massage. No guidance on where to wait, all the girls working were behind the counter chatting. My massage was the WORST ever. It was supposed to be a regular massage and the pressure was worst than a deep tissue. I told her a few times it was too hard but she never let up. I left there more stressed than when I came in. I even sent a complaint to the owner when they asked for a review. I gave a very detailed review and explained I would not be back. 3 weeks later and I haven't heard back from anyone. I have been going for a few years, and I am always impressed with the final result of the hair coloring and cuts. Sometimes it takes some extra tweaks to get the color perfect (lifting the shade a little bit and getting the roots to match), but Devon is always careful to make sure the result is what I'm looking for. I've been coming to Fran Coys for years, but thought it was time to leave a review after seeing how diligently they are managing their business amidst a pandemic. From a distanced check-in process to plexiglass at EVERY station, it was truly impressive. I saw the stations being sanitized and it was nothing short of a medical environment. Specific to service, Anna always does an amazing job. I live in Grand Rapids but try to see Anna whenever I'm in the area. I don't get my nails done by anyone else. Her nail art is all free-hand and with shellac polish, it lasts for weeks. She is very professional but also a genuine conversationalist. The parking lot is plenty big and the building is easy to find. From a traffic perspective, it's in the best part of town, very easy to get in and out. read more

Very unhappy with the manicure I got today. Unfortunately I didn't realize how bad it was until I got home. Nail shaping is irregular. Too much cuticle showing. They were out of the first 2 colors I chose and the one I ended up with a color I hate. Yes, I chose it but it was my third choice. It seemed like she was in a hurry from the start and barely spoke to me unless I asked her a question. I've gotten nice manicures there before, but not from this person. read more

I booked a shellac manicure. They scheduled me with a provider who primarily does hair. She was nice but the manicure was very sloppy and unprofessional looking. My cuticles did not get any attention and the polish was applied unevenly. I get my nails done regularly have have never seen them look so bad. I called and let them know my concern and they scheduled me with a full time nail tech the next day who apologized and re-did the manicure. I was very happy with the second manicure and appreciated them correcting the service promptly. I would suggest requesting someone who provides nail services full time to avoid this in the future. My daughter came to get her hair done here. she asked for a full highlight with a fine weave blended well and heavily throughout the hair. This is a hard service to do and takes a long time on her hair because it is very long and thick. So we called and requested extra time. However we offered to pay whatever was needed to get the job done. It wasnt heavily highlighted and the stylist took a huge chuck of hair and "balayaged" it. That is not what we asked for to begin with! It was half assed and done lazily. The manager came and redid that portion only to not lighten it enough and tone it and called it a nice Carmel gold when we specifically asked for ashy blonde. It doesnt even match the highlights! At this point it had been 5 hours in the salon and 2 stylists including the manager and we were fed up! I am a licensed cosmetologist and just came to make sure everything went smoothly. This salon is suppose to be the best around and this is the worst experience ive ever had. I sent her here trusting she could spend her last dollar here feeling luxurious and worth her money. I was wrong. All the staff were talking back and rude to us. Nothing was done properly and we left unhappy. We were forced to overpay because of the money shortage (my credit card was stolen recently) and were not informed we needed exact change. There was NO signage informing us of that at all. As someone whose trusted this salon in my worst hair days im very disappointing and will never send people here again or return. Unbelievable. read more

I received a gift card to Fran Coys Salon so I decided to use it on a glycolic peel. I have never gotten a glycolic peel before and probably wouldn't have unless I had a gift card because they are expensive. However, I had a great first experience. All the staff are very friendly and inform you about the whole spa process. The peel stayed on for five minutes and made my skin tingle and burn a bit. After the peel, she put on many different types of lotions and massaged my face and neck. I could feel a noticeable difference in my skin afterwards. It was much more hydrated and tight. I would recommend a glycolic peel if you're looking for some skin rejuvenation. I would do it more often if it wasn't so pricey! read more

This is the second time I have received haircut from Fran Coys Salon. The second time, the hair stylist's station floor and chair were covered with hair. She blew it off like 'that's the way it is with hair'. Wonder if a restaurant would say that about food all over the floor. Also, her round brush was 'loaded' with other people's hair. I really don't want to give this salon only two stars, since it is locally owned an operated, but what can ya do when do you don't like your service... I booked a Mani-Pedi combo, both with paraffin waxing. My pedicure was fine and has lasted quite a long time, no complaints there... My manicure however is another story. Although I really liked the girl doing my nails she didn't pay a lot of attention to my them. She didn't hold my hand in hers to paint them, they were just laying flat on a towel and she struggled tried to do an even job. My right thumb was messed up, quite obviously, but I didn't say anything because she had said she "hates" when people tell her to fix their nails.... As a paying customer I should have spoken up, but didn't want to bitch and you'll see why in my next paragraph. I wasn't thrilled with the customer service either. My manicurist felt compelled to gossip about the customer sitting beside me, once she had left. It was nothing malicious, but it says something regarding the professionalism of the salon. What she said wasn't particularly bad, but it makes you wonder if she'll be talking about you to another customer once you leave. The salon is clean and seems to be popular in Ann Arbor and isn't very expensive (don't bother getting the paraffin), but for quality of my nails, coupled with the lack of professionalism by the young staff, I won't be coming back. read more

The professionalism and quality at Fran Coy Salon and Spa is unbeatable. I've been to the salon multiple times for various services, including hair cuts & colors, pedicures, and facials. I've always had an excellent experience. The talent and friendliness of the stylists, estheticians, service providers, and front desk employees shows. At my last visit I booked appointments for both my sister and I. The woman who answered the phone, Dawn, was extremely helpful. I actually needed to call back and change the appointments and she was accommodating and knowledgeable. Once we were at the salon, I had Amber for my color and cut. She suggested a slight adjustment to my original request that turned out just spectacular. The color was exactly what I wanted. I had Claudia for a facial. She is extremely skilled and clearly very experienced. The facial was relaxing and left my skin feeling amazing. I accidentally booked a basic color for my sister. What my sister actually wanted was a balayage, which I realized takes much more time. Taylor worked on my sister's hair. Even though she was very busy (she never mentioned this, but I noticed), she was able to make time and take care of my sister's balayage. The balayage ended up absolutely gorgeous; my sister loved it. Everyone I've encountered at Fran Coy Salon and Spa has been exceptional. I've been delighted every time I've visited. read more

I just went to this salon for the first time, and it was wonderful! They had a coupon in the Clipper for a $20 haircut and protein treatment, and it was such a great deal! The stylist I had, Lauren, was very friendly without being overly social (I hate feeling pressured to make small talk - but I felt comfortable here). She gave me exactly the cut I asked for AND I was able to get right in by calling one day ahead. The regular price for her cut is very reasonable too. Now, I am a pretty easy customer generally and I hate going into salons where I feel like I'm not good enough to be there (you know what I mean? Like you have to be in a band and weigh 100 pounds to be good enough or something). Maybe this place is just my style - I felt instantly comfortable, I was in and out in a flash, happy with my haircut, not pressured to buy a bunch of products. If I decide to do something crazy trendy with my hair we'll see if I still love it... but I already made an appointment for a return visit! read more

I've had several services done at Fran Coy's, including cuts, color, waxing, makeup and nails. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the salon feels modern and clean without being pretentious. I've never been blown away my hair cuts or color, but they're usually solid enough that I've gone back several times. Jessica Daschke (spelling?) has done my nails and makeup. She did a FANTASTIC job on both. I honestly think she gave the best manicure I've ever received. Claudia has done brazilian waxing for me, including my first one ever. She made me feel very comfortable, and kept me, ahem, "covered' as well as I could expect for such an invasive waxing job! She was friendly and matter of fact, and I really appreciated her technique. Overall, my experiences here range from average to superb. The pricing is very fair, and I'd recommend Fran Coy to a friend, but primarily for nails and waxing over hair styling. read more

Lily did my color and cut this week, and I couldn't be happier with the result. I gave her the challenge of an asymmetrical cut - her first one ever - and she nailed it. She sought a second opinion to make sure I was happy. I went to a Christmas party that night and received many compliments. I've had a number of services at this location - and they were all pretty good. I had a number of facials with Jude - she's really great and managed to get my face under control when I first moved here. We did a series of peels and she did a great job. She also has waxed my eyebrows and used a cold wax - which was fantastic as it didn't hurt any of my tender skin. Really great. I've had a couple of massages - and for the price they were absolutely superb. I have lower back issues and the deep tissue is the way to go. I did get a haircut once - and it was great - but I'm pretty loyal to my stylist elsewhere. Good in a pinch for sure though. They usually have sale items too - which range from OPI polishes to Redken products and even wigs from time to time. I'd give it a shot - or if you're looking to give a gift cert - I got my mother one and she was SO happy. read more

Inconsistent. I had a haircut and color 2 months ago. I was impressed enough to rebook for a cut with the same stylist. Unfortunately, today's experience was not great. I was in and out in 25 minutes with only 15 minutes of that time spent on the haircut, and it showed :( I was very clear on what I wanted and even spoke up again when the flatiron came out that I did not want a bob. I asked if she could frame my face, like I had asked for(and showed her an image of at the beginning) and was told it wasn't a good idea. That she could, but didn't want to, she liked it like it was and that I would "regret it". She was very rushed, her next client eas waiting with wet hair, and it was clear she wanted me out of her chair. Bad experience and won't go back. read more

My previous review was for the salon, this review is for the spa, which I finally tried this weekend after coming here for hair services for years! For spa appointments, you check-in at the same check-in area that you use for the salon, and then a staff member will walk you back to a separate waiting area for the spa. There are cushy seats, magazines and lemon water. During the wait, I filled out a form that asked some of the usual spa questions (ie: Ever had a massage before? Do you have any pain or soreness today?) I LOVE the fact that they ask you whether you are there for relaxation or to relieve physical pain, and whether or not you want a light or deep touch. I received a hot stone massage from Linda and it was fabulous! She was friendly, so I felt comfortable right away. The stones were the perfect temperature, which helped me relax. She massaged my legs, arms, back, neck and shoulders during the 70 minute treatment. I could feel the tension melting away! At the end of the treatment she let me take my time getting ready to leave, and brought me a glass of cold water. It was a wonderful pick-me-up at a reasonable price! read more

This was my first experience with Fran Coy and will be my last. I was referred to this salon for a wig while I was receiving chemo. I went for a consultation with Arielle and the consultation was helpful and went well. I was told that my partial wig would be in in about a week and would receive a call. A month went by and I had heard nothing (I was not in a hurry to get the wig because I still had plenty of hair at the time of my consultation). I called after a month and told them I had not heard anything from Arielle. The person on the phone told me that Arielle was not working that day and would look into it. I received a call shortly after letting me know that wigs were on backorder and that Arielle was advised to call the company for an update and that she would be sure to keep me updated. I did not hear anything for two more weeks so I called again. I called on a Monday and the person who answered the phone apologized for the inconvenience and advised that they would be in contact with Arielle (she had been quarantining for two weeks) and would get back to me. That Friday, I still had not heard anything so I called and advised that I was extremely disappointed in the whole process (as if I did not have enough going on in my life dealing with cancer) and that I no longer needed the wig. The person on the phone apologized again and promised to find out what was going on with my wig. I received a call later that day advising that their wigs were still on backorder, but they will receive them on Tuesday and I should expect a call then. It is now the following Thursday and I have yet to be given an update on my wig. Even though my hair is extremely thin now, I am fortunate enough to still have enough hair to get by without a wig. However, I understand the stress and emotions you feel while going through something like chemo and to have this additional frustration and stress has caused me to never consider going to Fran Coy for any future appointments. I am completely understanding to the fact that their wigs are on backorder and that is not their fault. However, they continue to not give me any kind of update or status (even when promised to each time) until I call to complain. So disappointed in this salon. read more

I came to Michigan for Graduate School from South Carolina. I went around to 4 other salons in the Ann Arbor area until a friend told me about Fran Coy. Until then, I hadn't found a stylist who I trusted enough to do color, and always walked out with a haircut that was fine, but not exactly what I wanted. I was randomly booked for an appointment with Alex, and whoever was working the desk that day was a godsend. Alex was not only friendly and easy to talk to for my cut and color, but she made sure that the color was exactly what I wanted. When I told her I was unsure, she elaborated on some advice and off we went. I walked out with what I thought was the perfect color and haircut that day. I have gone back and seen Alex twice more since, and let me tell you, the color is consistently spot on. Especially because I like to change my color regularly, she is always open to change, and makes sure that I get exactly what I want. I have already told her that as long as I am here, I'm not going anywhere else. read more

After visiting Fran Coy's for laser hair removal, I am incredibly disappointed, frustrated, and feeling totally dismissed by management and staff. My mom recommended Fran Coy's for laser hair removal with Claudia, who was attentive and kind and really supportive for the first 3 treatments. I paid for each appointment separately, and Claudia and I discussed a 7-10 treatment plan. She's the only reason for the one star in this rating. In February, Claudia left Fran Coy's so I was told that I would need to wait for my next treatment as they did not have another laser technician. Wanting to do this right (I've been trying to remove this hair for years with MANY different treatment options and finally decided to spend the money on laser), I waited, told that I would. be called back in March with updates. Never recieving a call, I called in March, and was told someone would be ready in April and I would recieve a call. April came, no one called, I reached out, and was told someone would be ready in June. Same thing happened in July. I was told by Amy, a manager, that they were training someone and that they should be ready by August and I would recieve a call. It's now mid August and I called a week ago to find out what was going on. Apparently the trainee left and now there is no one STILL to perform the service. I've been waiting since February with very little contact to me from Fran Coy's or Amy to let me know what's going on. I still have the same kind of hair growth I did when I started treatment, seeing little to NO RESULTS, and now I have no expected date for treatment to restart. Amy offered waxing and another removal service, but I have already done these things and I'm not interested in doing them again. I was offered so little as far as a solution, and I spent a lot of my hard-earned money as a restaurant service industry worker to get this treatment only to be dismissed and ignored by this business. I'm incredibly hurt, and if Fran Coy's is supposed to be a place to feel taken care of and nutured, I DO NOT feel that way. I'm so hurt, upset, and still struggling with embarassing and hard to manage hair. I do not wish this kind of treatment on anyone. read more
