I love the school. Teachers are excellent. They spent a lot of time to make remote learning fun.

Luckily we found Sora and it's conveniently a Saturday school from 9-12. It is co-op so you are expected to participate and volunteer for duties such as yard, bingo, cleanup, etc...the board of directors is made of parent volunteers that constantly change, if there aren't enough volunteers for positions they'll do a random draw for different positions. There are fun events year round such as Undokai, Mochitsuki, Summer Bazaar, and a Holiday Party. The school is pretty small so it feels very community and you'll see a lot of the same parents, staff, and students throughout the year. Homework is very light but they do get the full 3 hours every week. The school is open to non-Japanese speakers and the student body is quite diverse.

My son has been attending this Saturday school since kindergarten. The teachers he has had have been positive and encouraging educators and not only taught him how to read and write the Japanese alphabet but also engage in several activities that are common in Japan (origami, word games, songs). The school also celebrates Japanese traditions such as Undokai and Mochitsuki which my son always looks forward to. The school serves students kindergarten through 12th grade and even offers high school language credit for students in Fremont Unified School District.

I wanted to improve my English grammar, pronunciation, writing, and conversation skills. In a few lessons, not only did I notice big improvement, but my colleagues did too. Her approach is to work on quick fixes and to give immediate feedback so I can incorporate that learning immediately in my daily life. In addition to helping with daily conversation, she has expertise in resume/LinkedIn profile review and job interview preparation. With the help of her sessions, I landed a wonderful job opportunity.

The love, safety, attention to detail is unmatched. They are patient and kind, helpful with homework and learning in English (and Mandarin if you want your children to learn!). It is onsite at the school, having a dedicated classroom and a dedicated playground. It's very convenient. All staff are bilingual in both English and Mandarin so they can offer Mandarin support on homework for kids in the Mandarin immersion program. They also provide academic support on Math and English. Things like helping students review materials in preparation of a test that the teacher will give. The kids do get play time at the playground. They provide some small snacks if kids are hungry. But we usually bring ours. They offer some extracurricular activities like coding or chess or art or dance with additional fee. What class to offer at the site depends on the number of students who are interested and signed up. But they do let kids trial the first class and see if they are interested to continue. Overall the staff are great and they create a safe environment for kids to learn, play, and socialize. The academic support on Mandarin and other subjects is also a plus to the program even for a native Mandarin speaker like me.

Like LOVED IT. I am writing this at the end of the week because my son was demanding I cancel next week's camp somewhere else so he can go back to Cometa. They have great hours, well-planned days with lots of opportunities to learn and practice Spanish, daily outings using their vans (the outings were very fun for our kiddo), and home cooked meals and snacks. Our kid did the "cooking" week and he was truly transformed by it. I think the staff did a great job choosing simple recipes that were delicious too and were very patient and caring during the lesson. Everyday they made something new and that was super fun. We are so happy with the staff, they were very professional and child-centered, and exuded warmth and a sense of belonging for the little ones. We plan to come back next summer and for other camps during the school year. They do aftercare too, but we're based in San Leandro so that doesn't work for us. Nevertheless, their afterschool program sounds really wonderful too.

We speak both English and Spanish at home, but my kid wasn't really picking up much Spanish until she joined. Since then, her Spanish vocabulary has grown tremendously. She really loves going and always looks forward to it. Plus, the school pick-up has been super easy with no problems at all. We also participated in their summer program and loved that the kids were getting exposed to different settings like a ranch and my child loved seeing chickens and horses. I'd definitely recommend this program to other families!

Had an unpleasant experience with the 4th grade teacher Karen Hinkley. She gave my child a 3.0 GPA when clearly it was a 3.5. The certificate is usually handed out in the MPR. We immediately emailed her and showed her that she had calculated wrong. She said she will correct it and reissue a new one. But the very next day, she called my son in front of the class and announced that his GPA had gone up as he had turned in an assignment late and hence she was issuing a new certificate. Dishonest lady. If this is what she says in front of a bunch of 4th graders, I am sure she said the same to the principal to get the new certificate signed. She does not even have the integrity to admit she made a mistake and own up to the fact. She is a very poor role model to the children.
