Owning your first condo should be a joy, a luxury, a simple enjoyment. It's not. Even if you have the best realtor in the world (which I think I did), finding and closing on a spot is the easy part. Then comes packing, moving, and furniture shopping. For some, this means shelling out some more $$$ and having it all done for you, even having a painter or interior decorator come in. For me, this meant UHaul drama, huffing and puffing to stuff a chaise into a freight elevator in my high rise downtown, etc. And the furniture shopping? Well, like a true yuppie, I avoided Ikea, made my way to Room and Board, CB2, Pottery Barn...like a true savvy Chitown shopper looking for some more unique finds, I hit up Nadeau and Roy's. I'd say Z Gallerie falls somewhere in between. Yes, it's mass-produced, and yes, the price tag sometimes causes sticker shock. But like any well-known furniture store, the good finds are worth digging for. And their strength is in their variety of artwork. Pretty much anyone (not looking for an original Renoir) can find something aesthetically pleasing to them in this Z Gallerie. Anyways, I gave three stars because I moved into my condo in July 2008. So why am I reviewing it now? Because I didn't get the kitchen table (and dining chairs) until last Saturday. That's right. An originally estimated two months for delivery turned into over half a year. And it wasn't without an ordeal, either - I had to call customer service every month to ask when the hell said table and chairs were getting off back order. To be fair, they gave me a $300 gift card (their max comp is 20% of whatever you bought, you do the math) and an additional $100 gift card when i saw the table had been marked down by that much on the website. But I still had to pay out the ass the original price (plus tax and delivery), and it was still delayed for over SIX months. What am I going to do with my $400 gift card? Go into the store and make sure I walk out with whatever I buy that same day. and I recommend the same to you. If not, here's the customer service number: 800.358.8288. This is the 2nd review that I am writing about Z Gallerie at Woodfield Mall. The first one I wrote through Google reviews, and I got a response from the manager, Ralph, as did many other people who wrote poor reviews. Ralph included an apology and his email address, and asked for more details so they could try "to make this right." I quickly sent him more details so that he COULD try to make it right, however, I got no response. Here was my initial review... "Last week I decided to drive an hour to shop the store rather than website. Just a few customers were there, and 3 employees that just didn't seem to know what they were doing. I purchased 4 of the same statue, in WHITE, and was assured that I didn't need to check them. I just decided to wrap them, as they are gifts, and every single one of them is BLACK. Seriously??? I was just reminded why I should SHOP SMALL AND LOCAL. This is what happens when you rely on underpaid & under qualified staff that doesn't care about their job. What a disappointment, I will not recommend this store." And the response... "Hi Lisa, Our sincere apologies on your experience. Can you please provide additional details (date and approximate time of your visit) as well as how we can make this right for you. Please feel free to email me at rguerrero@zgallerie.com with any additional details. We would love the opportunity to make this right for you. Thank you, Ralph G." So my question is, does the manager respond so that it APPEARS that they actually care, OR did I not spend enough money to justify trying to "make this right." The store was beautiful, the staff was so professional, it's no surprise that so many stores have closed and that they just don't have the presence they used to. Z Gallerie.COM is awful buyer Beware! Worst furniture Co. to do business with ! Special ordered the Paloma bed and waited forever to get it ! Once received it was poorly made! The holes where made too small so the hardware that connects the rails to the headboard and footboard couldn't be attached I had to re-drill the holes. The fabric was not even stretched properly when upholstering, the bed lumps everywhere staples hanging off screws not completely screwed in ! Looked like a child did the work or someone that was learning how to upholster for the first time ! The only solution was to remove the bed and reorder a new one or have someone come and try to fix it .I wasn't going to wait 4-5 weeks more to have a new one made yet it took way longer for my special order but now they are saying only 4-5 weeks yeah not true ! And not having anyone in my home to fix it here ! No thanks. Never even offered a discount or at least refund on delivery which includes assembly. Which they couldn't do because of the small holes and unraveling fabric. Found out this bed is made in China and this definitely shows they have no quality control on their end! read more

Love Z Gallerie selections however the employee needs more training to make their customer happy! We were in the store browsing. I saw the wall candle holder I liked so I walked to the cashier and asked the employee if she can help to get that off the wall. She said "we don't normal sell from the wall. Let me check if we have any in the back". So My husband and I stayed in that section and waited like 15 minutes. She never showed up. So I went to the cashier and found she was just standing there. She didn't have the courtesy to let us know if she found any until we asked. Then we saw a sectional sofa. My husband asked her for clarification in dimensions. First she gave the wrong dimensions. When my husband questioned her, she looked annoyed and she started to turn her back to us like she got other urgent issue to deal with. If she was patient to explain the product, we would have bought the sectional. When we checked out, she was quiet and just asked me for address for an item that they are going to ship to me and phone number. On the way home, I realized she never asked for my emails address or gave me a receipt. So how am I supposed to know the shipping tracking info or return? So I called the store, the same employee answered. When I asked how I should check my shipping, she just gave me an order number which I can use to locate the order online. She didn't mention anything about the receipt. At the end I asked "you guys don't provide receipts any more? " She said "yes I just forgot to put the receipt in your bag" like not a big deal. The whole experience is just so annoying. Nothing really hurt us but this is kind of upscale furniture store, I'd expect the shopping here is more pleasant! I was excited to buy a small nightstand table at Z Gallerie. I went to purchase it online and saw that there is a $249 delivery fee. Because this is a small table, I could not justify spending this amount of money on delivery, especially when competing stores do not have delivery fees over $160. I called customer service to see if I could ship to the store or try to lower the fee and they wouldn't hear me out. I also called this store and talked to someone who was not friendly, understanding, she didn't even introduce herself she answered the phone and said "who is this". I am so unhappy with my experience with Z Gallerie and the whole experience rubbed me the wrong way. read more

I love Z Gallerie! They have some nice artwork and furniture which I've never bought but I'm totally into all their household items. I've purchased a variety of items from here - most recently wine glasses for a friend with Eiffel Towers as the stems. We're going to Paris and I thought it would be the perfect way to celebrate our trip! Some workers are pretty clueless at this location but on this particular day I had a very helpful guy. He checked in the back for them for me, rung them up, gave me some details on things. All in all, if you're looking for adorable household decor, I highly recommend Z Gallerie! Some of the items can be a bit pricey but they have a clearance section in the back! I always start there. :P read more

My complaint is with their on-line customer service. I was denied a return because I requested it one day past their ridiculous 14 day return policy. I can't think of another e-tailer with such a short return window. The drapes I purchased were never opened and they are a product still carried on the website. Apparently they don't realize their policy is just a policy and not a law. When I offered to take a merchandise credit they wouldn't consider it and suggested I try to return them to a store. I will never buy anything from them again and I'm making it a point to tell my friends and relatives not to buy from there. My actual star rating is zero. read more

Every time I walk through this store when visiting the mall, not a single person asks if they can help me or even acknowledges I am there. Then when you ask a question they act like you are putting them out. I prefer the Old Orchard location. I like their stuff, I actually have a chandelier from here that I love so much that I bought it again for my new house...and this is where the trouble begins. The North Ave store closed so I had to schlep out to the burbs, they didn't have it in stock so they said they would order it. Okay, it took 4 calls for me to get it ordered, price was wrong, info wasn't working, etc. 3.5 weeks later I am like, hmm, wonder what happened to my chandelier, no one had called me. Z Gallery is one of those unique high end furniture stores that you can only find at high end department stores or malls. That's what I thought when I would walk pass this place every time I went to Woodfield Mall. I would never venture inside as I would only long for furniture I could never afford. But all that changed when I found myself buying a house several years ago and decided to walk in to just get some idea of how to decorate. I instantly fell in love with the style and décor of their furniture and the way each pieces were laid out by separate rooms. I would describe their furniture style as chic high end updated classical and modern style furnishings. Furniture that you wont find at your parents furniture store like Wick's furniture or JC Penney. Their approach to furniture is much more bold and experimental and they are not afraid to experiment with color. Here you will find very unique furnishings and accessories like beaded lamps and zebra inspired Biergier French chairs to mirror covered side tables and oversized sofas and king size beds. Allot of their pieces are on the more expensive side, but there are some pieces that are on sale or severely marked down. When I first moved into to my house a few years ago, I ended up buying an oversized beautiful Zebra inspired chair that cost $800. This piece was the inspiration for my TV room / African Safari room. Basically I decorated the entire room based on this one piece of furniture from Z Gallery and everytime I have guests over, they always comment on the Zebra chair. I also bought one of a kind Unique French beaded lamps (that looked like it could have been used in the movie musical "Moulin Rouge", inside the Harem room). If you are looking for that one unique piece of furniture that will inspire you to decorate outside of the box, then its worth a visit to Z Gallery. Just a warning though, their delivery is twice as long as other furniture places. It took 8 weeks for my Zebra chair to be delivered. read more

Ordered a table and chairs from here a while ago. I love my table and chairs. Perfect colors for my house and a statement piece. Purchasing the set was easy enough. Once it came however there was damage to the edge of the table top where the wood was all cracked and coming away from the main part of the table. It took a bit, but I got them to bring another table. When the new table came and the delivery guys opened it from its packing they said they couldn't give me the new table. I asked why. Turns out the new tables legs were all broken and had giant chunks of wood missing! Thankfully they were able to replace just the table top and keep my takes legs. I'm really happy with the table however I was told it was sealed wood. It's not it's white washed and everything wet leaves marks. And I was told the chairs were simple cleaning due to children being messy I needed fabric that I could spot clean with ease. This fabric however isn't exactly that simple to clean and remove marks from. If i knew how delicate the whole set would be in those regards I'd have made it a piece for my dining room. I did however sand it and seal coat the tables top myself and have had no issues with it since then. Again this set is gorgeous and is still buy it again even with its downfalls because i do love it. I also just purchased a piece of wall art from here. It's very large and perfect for my entry way. I really like some of their wall decor and will probably be back for another piece for my dining room soon! read more

They have really cute accessories for homes. From fruit-holding bowls, to conversation pieces, to wall hanging. The artwork they sell is pretty cool too. If I had a Z Gallerie near my house, I'd be there instead of IKEA when looking for generic cool artwork to put on my walls. Some of the things are pricey, but it's a great deal when there is a sale. And they have fun books to gift to people too! Very random but cool store. Though, based on the experiences before mine, I probably wouldn't buy furniture from there. read more

I will not buy from this store again if it involves delivery. They told me that the chair I ordered was in stock but it has been 7 weeks and I still don't know when I'll get my chair. They keep telling me that it might be another week but so far still have no idea when it's going to be delivered. I have 6 of the Lola chairs and spent about $2k. They are low quality made in China chairs that don't even last a year. The seat starts sagging gradually and it becomes uncomfortable to sit on them as you can feel the springs. Also, ZGallerie does not stand behind their products. They look for ways to not be responsible. So I urge you DO NOT BUY this chair and/or any of their products! I will start by saying that I usually enjoy going into Z Gallerie, however that last few times have stripped me of my joy. First let's discuss the poor quality of the display furniture. From rips in the fabric of their chairs, to a coat rack with broken off spokes and a night stand with missing drawer pulls. Seeing how Z Gallerie is supposed to be a more up scale furniture store, I couldn't imagine spending my money on things so poorly crafted. If it's falling apart in the store, what's it going to look like after a year? Now onto the horrible customer service. One word, obnoxious. Hold on scratch that, they were more than obnoxious. With four sales associated standing behind a counter, why did it take over 15 min to be helped? Oh yeah that's right they were too busy in their own little world. One that didn't involve working. When asked for help, they just looked at me and told me to hold on. Hold on...for what? So you can finish your gossip session. Looks like Z Gallerie in Woodfield needs to clean house, in more ways than one. First clean up your show room, get rid of the broken falling apart furniture, then clean house when it comes to your staff. Their only saving grace and the reason they got 2 stars is that they do have fun picture frames and stemware. Think I'll stick to online shopping for that. read more

My boyfriend and I purchased a bedroom set from here, thinking it was the same quality as one we had seen at Macy's but a few hundred dollars less. Safe to say, we should have purchased the Macy's set. Delivery: they delivered everything but the footboard to the bed, which means that we could not place a mattress on the bed, hence we could not sleep on it. The delivery men had no idea where the piece was. Worst of all this was on a Thursday!! Quality: extremely disappointing for the price; a $2000 set, including a bed, 2 nightstands, and a dresser (no mirror). The dresser was scratched across the bottom. Furthermore, the handle fell off of one of the drawers the first time I opened it. Customer Service: Terrible, horrific!!! I called to ask why the footboard was missing, and I was informed that the sales rep who sold me the piece at this location, and charged me full price for the bed, had failed to enter the sku number for the footboard. The people in the warehouse thought this was perfectly normal, and nobody ever got in touch with the store or with me to double check whether this was a mistake. Apparently, this piece was in the warehouse in CA and wouldn't be sent to Chicago for another 2 weeks. I told the customer service consultant that this was unacceptable as we did not have a bed to sleep on and that the piece should be overnighted to us. She said she would call me back. Not only did she not call back, I had to call again after 3 hours of awaiting patiently, and after being placed on hold for 30 minutes, I ended up speaking to the same rep who said she had been too busy to call back. After speaking to a supervisor, I was informed that they weren't even sure if they could ship the piece, and that she would call me back. I never received a call back, I called once again at the end of the day, and spoke to a different supervisor who told me that the previous woman was now on lunch and would call me back with an answer as to when I would receive my bed. No solution: neither supervisor called me back, they tried to tell me that they would give me a gift card once the piece arrived as if they could place a prize and a dollar value on the quality of my sleep (my boyfriend and I had to sleep on the couch). Her offer was insulting, as if a gift card would make up for their colossal mistake and lack of customer service!! I could not deal with them anymore, so my boyfriend called back the next morning to be told that the piece would be sent through standard delivery and would take 5-7 business days, and this was on Friday. He told them that it was despicable that nobody ever called me back to inform me of this, moreover, he had personally gone on the fedex website to assess the cost of this overnight delivery from CA to Chicago, and it would have cost Z gallery $150, relatively inexpensive for their mistake. He even told them that whatever gift card they offered to us, we would be happy to apply that to the overnight costs because we were not interested in a gift card, but rather in receiving the furniture we had paid for. It's not as if I was missing a nightstand, which I can do without for several days, but not having a bed is quite a different story. In the end, we have spent the last 3 nights sleeping on the couch, and have no idea what the compensation will be because apparently they will decide that at delivery time. I wasted almost an entire day between the delivery and the time on the phone, several uncomfortable sleepless nights, and to top it all off the quality of the furniture was poor. Do not shop at the store. They do not stand behind their words. I bought some items and before purchasing asked if they were returnable and refundable. The sales person assured me more than once they can be returned for a full refund. I purchased a leaning mirror which was way too big for my room. When I called to return or exchange the item I was told there is a 25% restocking fee. This is outrageous. Especially since I asked. If you look at the back of your receipt it does show the return policy however that receipt is not provided till after you make the purchase and leave the store. I escalated the issue to corporate with no better resolution. If I was told upfront I would not have purchased the item. If a sales person gave me incorrect information they should stand behind what I was told. But the store is denying that conversation ever took place. Why would I buy merchandise that I can't return especially when I ask the question more than one time? read more

Called both remaining locations today to verify that furniture on their website would be available in store to try. I'm no dummy; won't buy before I try. Both the Woodfield store and Highland Park store reported no floor sample for what I wanted. I'm losing my patience with this store, BUT will still go there because their items are stylish, with a high-end look that doesn't require the high-end price tag. read more

The price a little high, but the fountain looked so good we just had to have it. I recently ordered a picture from their online site and it came in with a chip in the glass. I called and was asked to provide a photo of the crack and to mark an X across the glass with permanent marker. After submitting the photo they shipped a new photo and told me to toss the old one. I was very pleased with the way they handled the situation! Subsequently, I went to the store at Woodfield and ordered another picture because the one on display had a few blemishes on the frame. They ordered it for me and there was no charge for shipping. Nice to be able to go to a store that still believes in great customer service! read more

I ordered a couch from this place 5 months ago and am still waiting for it. The sales guy put the order in wrong and they shipped the wrong sofa. I ordered a sectional and was shipped two end pieces. I was told it would be rushed to get the right pieces out to me and am now in my 7th week of waiting and it has still not been shipped from the warehouse. Customer service every week tells me it will arrive 'next week'. I have never been so discouraged to order anything from a store in my life. The customer service rep that i called first didnt even believe me that they ordered the wrong pieces until I sent her pictures. She kept saying I was wrong or we ordered the wrong pieces. My experience with Zgallarie is horrible. I purchased a sofa, chair and a big mirror with them, total came up to be more than $2000. When I was making my decision purchasing the furnitures, the sales ladie said we can deliver the furnitures to you for $99 to your place anytime you want, ANYTIME YOU WANT. After 3 weeks, a delivery company called me to schedule delivery, but they can only give me a 4 hour window either from 8-12 in the morning or 4-8 pm. But I told them that Zgallerie people told me they can deliver anytime I want. So that's when the nightmare started. Me and husband both have work till 5:30 pm and the earliest time we get home is 6:30 pm. I asked them several times if they could do a shorter window from 6:30 to 8 pm, and the delivery company said they would need Zgallerie special approval. So it took them 3 weeks to go through the process just to get a delivery time approved. And I had to call them to remind them about that because they certainly would not care about whether I am getting my products. If you are dealig with them, you need to be harsh talking on the phone otherwise they would not CARE.I try to argue with them to return everything and of course the 20% restock fee came up and I would not give $400 cash to them. So I waited nearly 2 months for the furnitures. When the mirror finally came in, the delivery guy said there should be some hardward comes with it and they cannot find it in the box. Also, the manual comes with the mirror says clearly there should be some wires and other things in the box. We asked the woodfiled mall IL Zgallarie to ship it to us and they denied that the mirror should come with any hardware. The mirro is very heavy weighted so we are worried if we donot have the proper hardware comes with it, it will not hang on the wall safely. Talking about the customer service and people working in the store, they are helpful only before you purchase something. They are not nice after you paid the money to them. I will never shop with them again and I would not recommend people to purchase anything from them based on my personal experience. read more

Store clerk named Kim said the estimated date of delivery was late December and hanged up without providing an order confirmation number. It has been almost 3 weeks, I called to check on the order status. another person now tells me the time frame is late December to early January, and he says that's the time frame given when i placed the order. so why didn't Kim inform me? The dude arguing late December could be December 31st certainly doesn't help either! I'm disappointed! I have not been in this store for years. But recently purchased a home and need to decorate. I went here because a friend suggested this store. I had a piece of art that I wanted that was a fairly pricey item. I called and had them out it on hold so I didn't waste my trip. From the time I got there until the time I left their service was way below average. My painting was the wrong size so I had to order it. But, of course, their computer system was down. They took my info and said they would call me with my reservation so I could order on line. I never received a call and when I called the store to ask no one seemed to know anything about it. I will NEVER stop foot in this CRAP store again!!!! I would advise the same for everyone else. I cannot believe they are still in business! read more
