So we took an Uber there on our way to the airport, luggage and backpacks and all. The line was to the door. Most people get their food to go but there are a handful of tables in the dining room. We parked ourselves and our bags at one by the front wall and settled in for our fried porkchops and fried chicken, lima beans, cabbage, red rice, mac and cheese, and corn bread. And while we waited for our food, one of the kitchen staff walked around passing out free frozen punch. It was good! This was the perfect choice for our last meal in Charleston. We were in and out in 45 minutes, full and satisfied. The only thing is we are still confused about pricing. We think there was an error because somehow we paid $29 for one meal and $19 for the other. Can't be right...but we didn't have time to sort all that out. Pay it forward.

You order, they plate it, you pay and either take it to go or to sit in the small dining area. Service is very quick and efficient, and you can tell there are a lot of regulars who come here because the staff joked and laughed with them as they waited in line. Speaking of the line, it moved fast but while we were there a woman came around with a tray and offered little cups of brightly colored something. I chose red and was delighted to see it was a frozen punch, red is cherry. My friend got orange and he said it was like a mango or peach flavor. I ordered the fried chicken, with cabbage and red rice. The cabbage was absolute fire, it was so tender and delicious. The red rice was good, but a bit on the dry side. I feel like had I been there when a fresh pan was brought out it would have been a lot better. The fried chicken was perfectly cooked and had a flaky crust but it needed salt and the tables did not provide any. I would come back, there are so many other things I would love to try and this place is busy for a reason.

We were actually asked if we would be willing to sit at a table with others. We did not mind. Unfortunately they were out of shrimp and catfish and my wife was wanting shrimp and grits. Our son ordered the Hog Dog, (hot dog with pulled pork) my wife ordered the Fat Boy burger, and I ordered the country fried steak. Their order came with fries and I ordered mashed potatoes and coleslaw with my dinner. Hush puppies and a corn muffin came with my meal. It took about 25-30 minutes for our meal to arrive. My dinner was delicious. Country fried steak was tender and crispy. Mashed potatoes had chunks which I like, the coleslaw was creamy with great taste, hush puppies were fantastic, and the only disappointment was the corn muffin was not warm. My wife loved her burger. Our son enjoyed the hog dog. Service was adequate. For me considering that the food was cooked to,order, I was quite satisfied with the service and the food.

One of the waitresses actually took my number down because I kept calling to see if they had a certain special added to the menu and she called me this morning at 7:15 and told me they didn't have it and I rushed right down and she made it feel like it was such a big deal anyways I just can't say enough good things about these wonderful people who run it! The prices are pretty typical for Charleston prices, but you're getting what you're pay for. I've been here eight years now and it's some of the best food I've had down here in the Low Country! The fellows sitting behind me had the seafood omelette. I've never seen anything quite like it, but it looked Delicious and Amazing! .

I ordered the Chicken Caesar wrap with fries, but ended up getting onion rings instead. It was not a big deal. They were still decent, just not what I ordered. The food itself was slightly above average and fine for a casual meal. The service was average as well. Our waitress was polite but nothing really stood out in terms of attentiveness. The inside of the restaurant was pretty basic, with a simple setup that did not add much to the overall experience. I don't think I will be back.

It was so good I had to go back! The Brunch bowl is what I order both times ( I wish I tried something else) and the "grit balls" were delicious. Service was fast and prompt even with a full house. And the woman at the counter (she was in the kitchen and ran food, greeted guests as they pick up their food, possibly a chef) was EXTREMELY nice and outgoing. She seemed to really enjoy her position and kept order in the kitchen. Food was delicious if I haven't already said so, so much flavor, a Carolina quality kinda spot! I highly recommend to anyone looking for an exceptional, yet casual place to dine. Thank you Grit Counter!

The parking lot was packed, and most tables were already taken when we walked in, which is always a good sign. You order at the counter and then grab a seat while they bring the food out to you. The menu is extensive, with plenty of dishes built around grits (as the name suggests). I went with the chicken and waffles, and it was loaded with flavor--crispy fried chicken breasts, a Belgian waffle, chunks of bacon, and a blueberry compote on the side. The whole plate was enormous; I definitely didn't finish it. My husband ordered the fried chicken and fish platter with French fries, and it was equally generous in size. We also started with the grit fritters as an appetizer, and they were fantastic--crispy on the outside and a nice surprise inside. Overall, the food was really on point with big, satisfying portions. The waitstaff seemed super busy but stayed friendly and attentive. The only downside for me was having to bus your own table at the end. Prices for lunch felt a little high at first glance, but when you consider the huge portions, they're pretty reasonable. We'll definitely be heading back soon.
