We parked ourselves and our bags at one by the front wall and settled in for our fried porkchops and fried chicken, lima beans, cabbage, red rice, mac and cheese, and corn bread. And while we waited for our food, one of the kitchen staff walked around passing out free frozen punch. It was good! This was the perfect choice for our last meal in Charleston. We were in and out in 45 minutes, full and satisfied. The only thing is we are still confused about pricing. We think there was an error because somehow we paid $29 for one meal and $19 for the other. Can't be right...but we didn't have time to sort all that out. Pay it forward.

I feel like had I been there when a fresh pan was brought out it would have been a lot better. The fried chicken was perfectly cooked and had a flaky crust but it needed salt and the tables did not provide any. I would come back, there are so many other things I would love to try and this place is busy for a reason.

I never ever left hungry. Now for the areas for improvement: The grill line should offer grilled cheese sandwiches at supper. No clocks on any wall. It would be nice to have visible clocks. The physical plant is tired and could use a refresh. The tables are too small for the size of tray they use. The A/C vents were dripping condensate down on to unsuspecting diners on especially humid days. They seemed to struggle to obtain consistently ripe bananas (often green with brown patches). It would be nice if the chow hall offered pre-ordered box lunches for people who will go off-site on the weekend.
