This is one of the best lunch spots in town! It's perfect if you are looking for a relaxed place to grab some lunch and a beer. The menu has something for everyone: great sandwiches and burgers! The staff is always friendly and quick with service. The place is almost always full around lunch so get in early to grab a table. There's is a game area AND a huge stack of board games if you are looking for a kid friendly spot. As a local, this is one of my favorite spots to tell visitors to try. Well these people know how to hold it down when things get busy. Nate, our bartender, kept his cool and did well with a super busy lunch rush. We felt acknowledged and served well the while time. He handled our obscure drink orders just fine, even made sour on the fly for us The food was awesome. We had the fried green beans and a cheese burger. This Café/Bar/Restaurant in Hood River was a great pit-stop for me while I waited for the freeway to thaw it's sheets of ice. Since I didn't die, I decided to stop here for some pub n' grub. The menu is burgers, sandwiches, soups and salad. They had plenty of options, however, I had to get a nice hot Reuben with an IPA on this cold wintry day. The sandwich was great and came with a pile of tasty tots. This café has a full bar as well as 4 beers on tap. There is bar seating and booth seating throughout. Groups of 1 - 6 could be comfortable here, but I'm sure they could accommodate more. The service was fast and friendly. The price point fit the portion sizes and quality. I could see myself coming back here next time I pass through HR. read more

I went here with my boyfriend on a drive up the Columbia Gorge. The fish and chips were delicious-- I've never had tuna in fish and chips before and I loved it! The price was right for the quality and amount of food served as well. There was plenty of malt vinegar and my fish certainly wasn't burned so I think one reviewer went on an off day-- I feel bad for you, because when I was there, it was spot-on! My boyfriend appreciated that any of the burgers could be substituted for garden burgers as well and he liked his Western garden burger (barbecue sauce, onions, cheddar). Side salad was basic, but fresh. I will be dreaming of tuna fish and chips until I can return for more! read more

I've been here a couple times over the years, but my last experience was especially terrible. We entered on a Sunday afternoon in January, so it wasn't busy at all. The waitress didn't greet us when we walked in, nor did she offer us menus. After sitting for a while, she brought us waters, but never actually said anything to us. We eventually left, because we weren't being served....she chatted with the table next to us, and never looked at us or said anything to us, ever. As a local, I was very disappointed in the service. In the past, the food has always been decent, but I will definitely not be returning to this restaurant after how we were treated. There are too many great places to eat in Hood River to settle on being made uncomfortable by a staff member. No good! read more

I don't know how this place is getting good reviews. I and three others came in for a bite to eat and we had an hour to kill before a movie started that we already had bought tickets for. We walk inside and there's two people at the bar and two people in a booth. We figured that's awesome it's a slow night because then we'll get served and be on our way lickety-split.... boy were we wrong!!! The waitress waved us to a booth and brought us water and didn't greet us at all just walked away. We sat there for about ten minutes waiting for some menus which she brought and we ordered a small side bowl of soup, a burger, and macaroni and cheese. The waitress was very rude when a person at our table got an emergency call from their boss and had to take it. (I still have no idea why she got upset that he took that call, it wasn't affecting her at all.) Now we were on edge by her attitude but kept smiling faces. We waited for our small and simple order for I-kid-you-not 40 minutes. In those 40 minutes we walked around trying to find the waitress and get her attention when she was behind the bar talking to the other people there but she ignored us or we couldn't find her. For 40 minutes. So we walked out the door because we were not going to be late to a movie we paid more for than we would spend on the meal. A week later two people of our party are walking downtown and the waitress saw them and started yelling across a parking lot about how it's rude to walk out without paying for your food (that we never received or saw mind you) and she approached them and kept yelling that they are banned from there and that she had to pay for that food and how she never wants to see their faces again. All was correct. Sandwiches were so good. I had the turkey miester and my partner had the meatloaf sandwich. Both were delicious. My side salad was also really good. Love their balsamic vinegrate. Hey, local here, detailed review: So Im not sure I like this place anymore. Ok, so whoever said the burgers are big and juicy... if you mean they are juicy because they use good cheese (which melts all over your burger), then fine. They're juicy. And portion sizes are good. However, as is so so typical of burger joints, they don't freaking season the meat enough. Yeah, I guess I'm triggered, because I've also had incredibly under seasoned expensive steak at Stonehenge (a restaurant here), and dry dry dry underseasoned pulled pork, slathered with sauce of course, at Apple Valley (another restaurant here). I think if you're going to go here, make absolutely sure that you specify a medium burger, and maybe ask for a little extra seasoning. It just... tasted flavorless. And seasoning meat with salt after its cooked just does not really work as well in my opinion. You really need to get the salt INSIDE the burger. Or steak. Or whatever meat​ you cook. If you really take your burger, strip it of all the mushrooms, blue cheese and pickles and just TASTE the burger, you wont taste beef really. Honestly though, people will always like this place. It's a burger place in America. Hell, people still eat at Charburger and pay those prices for basically cafeteria food. That's just how it is. And I understand different cooks come and go in the kitchen, so maybe this was an off burger. My husband had the paddy melt, same issue. Idk guys. Just gotta be honest. Also, if the owners are reading this, maybe carry the extra stout Guinness, the real, thick stuff that comes in a bottle and isn't injected with nitrogen. Sigh. Idk, I'm not feeling the soul here guys, and I aint tasting the beef. But I'm sure people will continue to love your stuff. I think I've eaten here and gotten a good burger when there was a guy with a ponytail working in the kitchen. Idk if I'm remembering right. I would say 3 out of 5 places my old man orders a burger rare, it comes out over cooked. So yes, that is one of the tests of a good restaurant in my book. Despite other reviews given, this outfit had excellent service and great food!!! We came in at 5:30pm on a Monday. only 2 other couples present. over the next hour the place filled up. Service was continuous from the time we walked through the door. We ordered some beverages and the humus plate - hold the phone right there. The humus plate is very generous, very fresh, wide variety - roasted pepper hummus filling a medium sized bowl (about 8 - 12 oz). probably 20 pieces of pita wedges, sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, kalimati olives, pepperochinis. and generous pile of mozzarella chunks. Flavor - excellent. quantity - over the top, service - top notch. we placed our order just as the appetizer arrived.n Ham on Havarti, with salad with honey balsamic dressing, chicken strips and tots and a bowl of broccoli cheese soup. As the appetizer disappeared the entries arrived - sans the soup. In the end the soup was a complete no show. But we had so much to eat we never noticed it until the drive home. Ham on Havarti - great flavor, fresh ingredients including great bread. no complaints here. The chicken and tots - honestly - we were so full from the appetizer most of it went home with us. To be fair, the chicken and tots were - sort of average. nothing special about them. But they were fresh, not soggy and the tots were nicely crisped. My family and I just arrived in Hood River and were looking for a quick bite. We happened upon this based on the Yelp reviews and headed down. The inside of this cafe is more "local bar" then family restaurant but the bartender was very friendly and the menu seemed good. We ordered a meatball sandwich, fish and chips, club sandwich and chicken Charlie. The kitchen was right next to where we sat and we watched one man cook for the whole bar. When we got our food I was surprised by the ample portions. The food was excellent. I was quite astounded that this place had produced such great tasting food. The only reason for not giving it five stars is there was a couple at the bar so inebriated that my kids couldn't stop looking over at them and asking why they couldn't pronounce simple words. Needed a stop with varying needs in dietary and yummy. We tried Trillium from the reviews and the food did NOT disappoint! From the meatloaf, chicken sandwich, to the mac-n-cheese the table fell silent in delight of taste. Erin served us well, attentive refilling our water. We normally would have tried a local brew in tap but driving through. So really appreciate the full service and sad we could not partake in local brew. It is a bar with great seating, board games to play so pick your friends right to experience great food, humor, game, and they have live music events too. Note: it is an institution in town, a bar so the accommodations are rough and the older of our group commented on the restroom. The $ was right and they give you more value in a few extras. All and all, this is bookmarked for our travels through Hood River. The age range of our group was 40 to 85 and no one was disappointed in the food and loved the service. read more

We sat down at a table across from the bar and waited for menus or even to order drinks. 15 minutes later and still no water or service I tried to flag the waiter down only to fall on blind eyes.
