Ferment staff gave us couple free tasting until we founded the beer we like. I chose Hana Pils & really enjoy it. I founded that the fried kettle chips is too greasy for me. We adore the smoked salmon dip, but just wishes that there is an option for veggies instead of kettle chips. This brewery is located upstairs on the second floor and it's a counter service style restaurant. Lots of open seating available and it was nice for our large party of 8. We came for the live music but it started almost half an hour late so we only got to catch a little bit. The menu isn't super extensive but I really enjoyed what we did have! The smoked salmon dip was really tasty with the fried capers, but I think I would have preferred if they were fresh capers to get more of the pop of flavor. The pretzel was thick and so soft and fluffy inside! It came with two dips, a miso cream cheese and a spicy beer mustard. Both were delicious and I liked being able to switch between the two options. The tex-mex fries were cooked perfectly and I liked that they did thin cut fries here. The portion was huge so it was perfect for all of us to share! The Hana Pilsner was very good!!! I wasn't expecting a lot from the food, but it was nearing inedible - the chicken sandwich was overcooked, the falafel was reduced to hockey pucks and completely inedible which is unfortunate, because I really like falafel. Cute brewery spot in the Mount Hood area with a gorgeous upper patio deck with fire pit and picnic tables to enjoy the view and lights of the town. We stopped here before dinner and it was quite busy as it was a weekday, but wasn't too hard to find a seat for us. We did the beer tasting our favorite was a sour strawberry. Cajun fries and salmon dip were also delicious little snacks to pick on. They also had a few mock tails and cocktails, besides beer and cider. Cool little brewery in the PNW. They have a large outdoor patio with lots of seating. And the patio is covered. It's dog friendly and there were lots of doggos when I went. Service was friendly. There is also indoor seating and food. I went for the beer. I tried the White River Saison: malts and hops from the Belgian, French, and German countryside, fermented with yeast captured from the wind on the slopes of Mt. Hood, creates a truly unique ale that is both refreshing and wonderfully complex. It was a wonderful saison and one of my favorites of the trip. I wish I had more time to try more beers but the one I had was excellent. I definitely recommend it and will try to make it back next time. read more

Great location with views of the Columbia River from inside and outside. We enjoyed the outside, which was slightly shaded on a hot day. Dog friendly, there were almost as many dogs as people. Signage for the entrance is lacking. The restaurant is upstairs (take stairs or elevator). Then seat yourself inside/ outside. We had a group of 8 and all fit at an outside picnic-style table. Got to stop here while on a road trip up through the gorge. The beer selection was wide and it was nice to see it pretty busy on a weekend night. We sat inside and service is order at the bar and they'll bring out your food. We had the fried brussel sprouts to share, which were tasty and coated in a nice sauce. My husband enjoyed the bratwurst on pretzel bun - but said that the potato salad needed more acidity. My issue was with their fried chicken sandwich. The chicken was pounded so thin that a McDonald's hot and spicy would've had more meat on it. The sauce that they made with sweet chili and gochujang was overwhelmingly for the heavily dry chicken. And the pickles wasn't giving the acidity that it should've had to balance out the flavor. Really they should just make kimchi pickles and lean into the gochujang versus the sweetness of it. But overall this dish was a miss and you should just avoid it. Nice views though! read more

I had heard about Ferment through the 5K Beer Run Series, but couldn't make that race. Had the chance to explore Hood River on a Saturday and this was our last stop. Theres a beautiful upstairs wooden deck, wide fire pit, heated yurts, four different seating areas with river and sunset views. This outdoor section alone would get 5 stars. You order inside at the bar. The staff was friendly. There is seating indoors. It wraps around glass windows which look down onto the brew tanks. The building is pretty cool architecturally. Our beer flight was ready immediately. We picked a sunset view with heat lamps directly above us. Our grilled cheese and tomato soup was walked out to the table within 10 minutes. I'm guessing the lower reviews are based on service issues which we didn't have. We had a lovely time. I suppose anytime you're with good company, a meal tastes better, but I've got to say the beer was good and the soup and sandwich were excellent. This brewery was a little difficult to find as of the signs to go up to the rooftop area where the brewery is. The ordering area is self service as you go to a window to order and the call you up to pick up after order is ready. Beer choices was ok but I wasn't a fan of what they had to offer. Food didn't taste that great either I only really enjoyed the chicken sandwich. Kids didn't like the burgers or the homemade ketchup -which tasted more like marinara sauce. We used to love coming here, but it seems the food and service has gone downhill. We ordered the falafel ban mi, fried chicken sandwich, and a kids burger. 3/5 for food. The fried chicken sandwich was rather bland, which surprised me. Not much flavor and the chicken was thin and overly fried. Could have used some spice or at least more acid (housemaid pickles, maybe?) the falafel is always good, but I would have preferred it served on a traditional baguette instead of a dense pretzel bun. We had the pickle/kraut plate, which used to come with more variety of veggies, but currently only has kraut, pickles, and kimchi served with crackers. The flavors are good, but not as good as we remembered. We noticed a very nutmeg-forward taste. The beer and ciders were good. My favorite was the Czech style Pilsner and my wife enjoyed the Marion berry cider. 3.5/5. The service was lacking. They make you go outside to order your food at a window, even if you are dining inside. You can only order drinks inside at the bar. The wait staff were not very helpful or welcoming, we had to get our own water from the bar as well. We also overheard the staff chastising a family for pushing two tables together so they could sit together. They were told there were larger tables outside, even though all of the outdoor seating was taken. It was very strange to make a family of 6 or 7 sit at separate tables. 1/5. The setting is very beautiful, however. The views of the waterfront can't be beat. We won't be prioritizing Ferment in the future. In my opinion, there are better options nearby: Double Mountain, The Walled Garden, Pfriem, etc. read more

I love the location and Ferment has great seating options! However, they are very expensive and their menu is extremely limited. Also, they don't have a wait staff. You have to oddly order at the bar, they give you a number, and then you find a table. Your food shows up eventually. The menu had some apps, a few sandwiches/burgers, and two salads. Obviously, a decent beer selection - but I only had one, which was good. The salmon dip was amazing, but essentially comes with two pieces of toast. Our salad was the star with a dressing that I could eat again and again, plus some pretty hard boiled eggs. The chicken sandwich was good, but nothing to rave about - fries were tasty. It's definitely worth a stop if passing through Hood River. Maybe it's an off and busy day but both our Salmon Burger and Fried Chicken Sandwich didn't deliver. The buns were dry and not toasted. The salmon patty wasn't fresh at all and the fried chicken too was mediocre. Some of the fries were crispy while other completely hard. Pasta salad was nothing to rave about; we could have made it better... The only redeeming factor food-wise for us was the bread served with the Artichoke Dip. Flavorful, nutty, and well-toasted. Not sure why that level of execution couldn't be applied in the other dishes but that was the only thing we'de happy about. The artichoke dip had absolutely no artichoke and was mainly cream cheese. When me and my wife and two kids arrived they said to sit anywhere and so we did. We waited for about 10 minutes with no drink order or nothing before realizing maybe we order at the counter and so I asked and they said yes you order at the counter (having been told that from the beginning would have been nice but they leave you sitting at your table like a idiot) a simple "hi, please sit anywhere you like and food and drink orders will be at the counter" I guess is asking too much from customer service these days and you do 90% of the work!? That is totally fine but don't expect me to TIP cause I won't be. I'm over this tipping culture, if you can't communicate and then have a fast food type service I don't think it's rude to hold onto your money. It's classy with classy restaurant/brewery vibe but yet you get BURGER KING service. But at least Burger King plays by the rules more than Ferment. We got in line and ordered a beer, the citrus mimosa, sweet and sour popcorn chicken and the salt and vinegar fries and then grabbed a seat at a table. We came during sunset hour and while yes the place was beautiful, the service was God awful. We were ordering food and drinks, and after we ordered our server left for about 5 minutes. She came back and said she can take our food orders, but doesn't feel comfortable taking our drink orders as we were "slurring" our words. This is ridiculous and also discriminatory as we are not from America and are learning English. We are from Ukraine, which by the way is at war right now, and thankfully we were able to get away from. This server judged us and made fun of the way we talked.
