Customer service has been my issue with them for the last two years, but now they've gone to Connect360- you wait at least 30 minutes to be transferred at least once. Then you wait again. For the second year in a row, they didn't update the Company's benefit contribution and are now trying to charge us a $2500 change fee. I can not warn you enough- stay away! Here are a couple of interactions I had with TriNet: 1) I chose an HSA and pre-tax money was duly deducted from my paychecks, but they didn't send me the HSA debit card. I had to make several calls to Optum Bank and TriNet to get this sent to me, and in the meanwhile, pay a large medical expense and claim it back. 2) I wanted to increase my HSA contribution and called two weeks before my next paycheck was due, and they said flat out "We're not going to be able to process it on time, but we'll send you the form and you can try". Moreover, the form they sent me also did not address my question, which was to make a one-off large contribution, not to increase the monthly contribution. Our company is switching to Sequoia One, and I've had much better interactions with them so far. (They also accommodate the one-off larger HSA contributions I mentioned in (2)). UPDATE Having read this Yelp review, TriNet's social media team reached out to me and successfully escalated the issue of a one-off larger contribution to my HSA, so I've increased my rating. read more

As someone involved in the choosing of and day-to-day interaction with our HR provider, I can say I'm extremely disappointed with the service that TriNet provides. While their insurance is less expensive than some other PEO's, they nickel and dime you at every step of the way. Their claim that you will no longer have to do as much HR work once they're installed is crap. Employees are constantly coming to me with their questions about TriNet's service, as well as their medical insurance questions. Their customer website is so out-of-date, the newest of the browsers it "supports" is from 2012 (and Chrome isn't even supported) making their reports tool incredibly hard to use. An example: Their PTO system is set up in such a way that is impossible for anyone, including a company officer up to and including the CEO, to see who is taking off and when. Only an employee's direct manager can see someone's scheduled time off. When I brought this to them, their solution was for me to rearrange the company org chart so that everyone in the company reports directly to the CEO (and he would have to then approve and deny all vacation requests for the whole company) so he could look up what employees will be out on any particular day. We have to run a separate calendar of all PTO requests to be able to schedule company meetings, etc. Does that sound like less HR work? To make their job easier, when you hire someone, you have to fill out their new hire info 2 days before they start work. This includes personal and census data normally provided by the employee on their first day of work, so you have to go out of your way to email out and track the return of a "pre-hire questionnaire" and get it entered on time. Again, this is not _less_ HR work. Beware of their salespeople's promises. read more

TriNet cancelled my COBRA because my bank's autopay instructions weren't clear...which led to underpayment despite the fact that I had been paying on time for months. Rather than contact me, the humane way, they chose to enforce their right to cancel my insurance and refused to consider even a plea by letter from my bank to reinstate it as well as 3 appeal attempts. This was before Obamacare so I had to get a job to be able to get insurance. Is this a review? PTO system errors. Submit a PTO request. When you look at your PTO requests, none are listed, no problem just process another request. They let you take 16hrs of PTO for one day, probably would allow you to take 80 hours for one day. One report shows you have taken 0 hours of PTO, if you look at your estimated PTO, it shows some PTO use. I alerted them to the errors, THEY DO NOT CARE. read more

Our company uses Trinet for payroll and benefits. When I had setup my direct deposit I made sure that entered my bank account information correctly and verified by entering the information a 2nd time. I was supposed to get my first check today but it hasn't been deposited in my account. When I checked my direct deposit information on the trinet site it showed that my check was going to a totally different account that I did not recognize. I called customer service and they pretty much told me that I had to wait until the check reverses from the other account before it can get deposited into the correct account. This does not help me when I have bills due with christmas just around the the corner. I hope our company drops this service and switches back to handling our payroll inhouse. read more

All good as long as you don't have any issues. My PTO time was calculated incorrectly and TriNet can not figure out how to calculate the missing PTO retroactively. First the missing PTO showed up in my account but mysteriously disappeared again. Customer service confirmed that I should have more PTO than it shows, but next customer service rep declined. I saved the chat history to show the calculation of the first rep, but they just can't get their act together. After weeks and different cases, I still get false promises "we have escalated this case and you will hear back before the end of this business day". read more

My husband works for a small start up that uses TriNet. We signed up for medical insurance for our family through Trinet. We got a response saying we had signed up for dental for our family only. They claim we didn't sign up for me or my kids. My husbands calls them, they say since we declined (?) medical insurance we can not be added now. No insurance for us until NEXT YEAR. They will not budge. Long story short, my husband's company has to fire him and re-hire him in order for us to get coverage! In my previous jobs when I declined insurance for my kids I had to sign numerous forms saying I was declining their coverage and bring in proof they were covered elsewhere. I honestly believe this company is running a scam. In the meanwhile I pray none of us gets sick or hurt because we are uncovered. TriNet Sucks. read more

They are absolutely hideous. Still sending me paper checks for my FSA even after I elected Direct Deposit for FSA. Their portal is decent and their customer service people seem to be nice. But, i think their customer service peeps have their hands tied together as they can't really do anything for you. They have no sense of urgency. We switched from ADP to Trinet (still don't know why). My med coverage doesn't allow for certain meds that my old plan used to through ADP. Both are Blue shield too. Anyways, they suck. I can't relay how disappointed I am at TriNet's apparent lack of flexibility and understanding. They declined our appeal to cover my wife for health insurance. Further compunding the problem, we have now missed the deadline to consider COBRA as a viable option because TriNet's review took so long. So, my wife missed out on her employer's plan because ObamaCare jacked up the premiums during open enrollment, so we decide to add her on to my plan (with TriNet), but their deadline is only 30 days (very short) and they declined to add her to my plan since we were only a couple weeks past. Now, we've missed our 3rd option, COBRA (60 days), because TriNet didn't respond in time for us to meet the COBRA deadline of yesterday. Now she has no health insurance. If your company is considering joining TriNet, urge them to reconsider or do extensive vetting or just consider a competitor. read more

My company, Micro-documentaries, uses Trinet for their Human Resource needs. While I was on maternity leave, there were some issues that came up with my insurance coverage. I called Trinet and am not exaggerating in the least by saying I had the BEST customer service experience ever. I spoke with two individuals and they were both professional, articulate and kind and made sure I was taken care of. I recall hanging up the phone and thinking, "Wow - I am in capable hands. My issue was resolved. That was easy." I am giving them only 3 stars, for fear yelp will filter out my review (they have done so before and it's incredibly frustrating). This company stinks, period. I am an intern in San Jose and trying to fix my social security exemption. They just gave you a form and started saying 'Ah, your Visa expired'. Of course my visa expired and it has nothing to do with my immigration status and my tax exemption. Even in their own form, they state that 'tax exemption will end 5 years after' the date you entered U.S. For some reason, they employee just do not even read their own form. I tried their 800 number twice. The first time they just said some specialist would call me back in the noon. And of course they did NOT call me back. I would give a negative review if this was an option. The sales team is eager to over-promise and under-deliver. While working with TriNet for about a year, our scaling company of 90+ at the time of engagement, incurred fees upward of $80k in administration fees. If you have employees on various Visa's or employee Expat's- if your payroll account is not set-up appropriately, your employees will face a slew of issues with tax compliance and filings with the IRS. Transparency is not a value they uphold. There are many hidden fees and a lack of support for us as a client. We experienced a high turnover of our TriNet account reps, 4 new reps within 9 months. With the exchange of administration, some of the complexities of our business operations were not effectively communicated and it was timely and inconvenient for us. We thought we were offloading HR administration, but all we did was fall under the TriNet umbrella and personally I feel they are incapable of managing HR/Payroll for any company over 20 employees. When migrating from TriNet it was extremely difficult to obtain information necessary to engage with a new provider. It was a very painful process. COBRA administration is also very challenging and this also was another administrative burden we had to face while still paying TriNet for a service they were not supporting appropriately. Steer clear! It was the worst decision we made as an organization. Buyer beware. read more

Watch out for plan year expiration - or Trinet gets to keep your contributions as profit.. Trinet operates on plan year (not calendar). This is in their documents but not something you are made aware of the impact of until it's too late. When trying to get reimbursed for dependent care and FSA expenses - they deny them from 2014 - because it was in the prior plan year. And when you try to escalate or get a waiver the answer is " too bad, you should have read the fine print." I'm recommending to my employer that we stop using Trinet as our administrator. I'm also submitting complaints with the state insurance board, my representatives and the IRS. Maybe that will help them improve their notifications. read more

This company has caused me nothing but a constant headache and an incredible amount of stress. Since being hired at my current place of work, I have had issue, after issue, after issue. If TriNet is involved, it's a guaranteed problem. In the short two weeks I've worked here, the following has happened. I tried to select my benefits, but was unable to do so. After calling support, I was told I had to wait a week before I would be able to select among subpar benefits. I was told by TriNet support that today I'd be able to access my Commuter Benefits, but no. After calling TriNet's support line I was informed it would be ANOTHER week to access that feature. And the icing on the cake was that an employee (Griffin, G.) sent an email to the office manager at our office that said the following: "This is in the pipeline now. He will be paid Friday 8/29/2014 via direct deposit...all good.", referring to my first paycheck. I checked today, and the company mailed a check. I now have to wait at LEAST a week, to receive the check in the mail, and how ever long it takes for the check to clear as well. I also don't have enough cash to make through the end of the week. TriNet is the mother of all middlemen. They work with god knows how many other companies to provide what little benefits and services they offer. Their system is obviously subpar, and somehow is also (I was told this by their support) 24 hours behind what their current information. If you want to suffer, your employees to suffer, and cause an enormous amount of stress on everyone involved, this company is for you. Personally, I recommend having your own HR department. There's a reason companies have had their own HR departments for years and years. Quality. You won't find any quality with TriNet. read more

My wife's company uses Tri Net as their payroll/benefits/etc administrator. They accidentally deposited 1500$ into her paycheck last week; it was labeled as some type of bonus, but she was never supposed to receive that money. That is a scary payroll error to be making. She has constantly complained that she can never log on to the website and constantly has to change her password. I chalked this up to user error. I tried to log in this morning with the credentials she provided and was successful. Thirty minutes later, using the same credentials, I was unable to log back in. I tested 2 different operating systems and 6 different browsers. My wife tried and also could not get in using the exact same credentials. This is complete amateur hour. Test your code. Based on previous reviews and brief user experience, it's scary that these people are handling your benefits, retirement and payroll. read more

In the 2 months since my company joined TriNet, they have failed to compensate me correctly 3 times, and they almost caused me to lose my benefits due to internal errors. At the end of January, I did not receive Direct Deposit like I was supposed to. I was told that "no hours were approved" and my supervisor had to contact them. He was assured that the problem was fixed and I would be payed automatically. When I received my check (5 days later), it was only for 34 out of 66 hours that I was owed for the second half of January. My supervisor had to call them again, and several days later I finally received the rest of my wages. A month later, I believed the problem was solved until I failed to receive Direct Deposit this morning. I received my correct wages via Direct Deposit two weeks prior, so I called TriNet. They claimed "no hours were approved" even though we were reassured that I would be paid automatically twice a month for 40 hours per week. During the last two months, I have received some of the worst customer service in my life from TriNet Passport. No one has been able to fix this problem or give me any reason as to why this keeps happening. It is obvious that TriNet cuts corners and does not care about employees whatsoever. Overall, for TriNet to call itself an "HR" company is false advertising. They know absolutely nothing about Human Resources and their cloud-based platform has some of the poorest UX design I have ever seen. read more

I have been working with TriNet for over 2 years. My company is a startup with over 30 employees in various states. I am the primary liaison for my company with TriNet. I notice most of the negative reviews here on Yelp are from employees and not the company HR liaison. My guess is that the reviewers on here who have had poor onboarding or benefits experiences were not set up properly by their own company / were not provided with accurate information from their employer, not TriNet. We signed up with TriNet so our employees would have a variety of healthcare options, at much lower premiums, than our company could get without using a PEO. They also take care of a bunch of paperwork that I used to do myself, so of course that makes me happy - it saves me time. They also remind me of due dates and compliance for new laws. Our employees have all had smooth onboarding experiences, and for the most part, TriNet's customer service team has been extremely helpful. I recommend working with TriNet. If you as an employer are not happy with the service you're receiving, it's likely you can change TriNet reps assigned to your company - something worth looking into. Overall, TriNet is a huge company and has lots of resources, and supports thousands of small businesses. I recommend taking advantage of their free HR training that they offer a few times per year. Well, they messed up our family's enrollment big time and they fixed it fast. I won't point fingers because you would hope the bottom line is the customer is always right, but with the absolute mess there is in signing up for healthcare coverage in general, mistakes can happen. Their website user experience is not as good as I would like, the user interface is beautiful, but word to the wise, take screenprints so that you can clarify what you saw as compared to what you thought you selected. It is much better to have the screen prints in the event there is a problem. Also, the materials given you from HR to signup during open enrollment might not match what you see on the site. Also be aware that they send an email out as part of their confirmation loop, heaven help you if you don't receive that email or if it goes to spam because you might not realize that what you wanted is not what you are going to get. When we started the process to fix this we found the customer service is not the easiest or fastest experience, however; the social media group is excellent. That group took what would have been a disaster and turned me into a fan. I thought, just another faceless corporate entity but their social medial interaction is probably the best I have experienced. I still think their user experience on their websites need improvement, but in my case they fixed the result desired and fixed it fast and so I'm giving them 4 stars, which if you know me is very good. Remember, look for email confirmations and take screen prints of the the pages on their website, especially at critical points, to demonstrate issues you might have using their website. I also recommend logging back in and confirming whatever you input is what they are reflecting. If it doesn't work out, try customer service, but if that doesn't satisfy you, reach out on social media, they are really in the loop on social media and they get things done, which makes life much easier. I'll definitely update my review if for any reason things don't turn out but for now and for this kind of business, I'm a fan! read more

Trinet was costing me 20% more in health care and what I heard it was going to cost our company about $15,000 more in fees and premiums and we only have 9 employees. I would prefer to give a rating of 0 if it was possible. TriNet representative either are incapable or don't want to do their job. Every time you need a small change it messes up your payroll. And to add to your miseries, Trinet never recognizes their mistake. It's you who has to audit their work and still pay them their hefty service fee. It's a useless peo. TWO DIFFERENT VIEWPOINTS ***The Client/Employer View*** I've used several PEO the past 15 years. While TriNet has a lot of benefit requirements that you can't change they do offer a consistent payroll service with competitive price. Some of the other PEOs bundle all the cost together, so you don't know how much you're paying per an individual. They are good at sending out reminders about altered payroll runs; however, they lack the personal touch of calling you and saying a hey we still don't have your payroll for processing. Yearly Health Benefits increases have been minimal over last five years, and you have a yearly re-evaluate of Health benefits and cost. We like the fact that we have several plan options for the employees, especial with our multi-state locations. ***From the Employee View*** TriNet offers a smooth onboarding process which makes it very easy to submit your new hire paperwork. You must access the HR portal to view your earning statements and W2. They don't send out an email notice that your earning statement is ready, but they do for your W2. Each year they send open enrollment notices. Our company HR person sends us a reminder to make sure we are aware of the open enrollment period is approaching and another when open enrollment is ending and that if you want to make changes, you must elect before the deadline ends. It's very easy to make changes. All you need to do is visit the HR Portal or call the Solution Center. read more

We've used Trinet for about 4 years as we grew from 4 to 14 employees. In early 2021, they switched away from having a dedicated account rep for our company to sending all our requests to an email box that seems to be managed by waaaay too few people. They are currently advertising a 72-hour response rate, and I'd say it's closer to 6 business days. It takes so long to get a response that it's almost not worth asking. We're taking our business elsewhere and I would suggest others think hard before getting involved. We've gotten quotes from other PEOs that are about half the price and also offer a dedicated account rep. read more

I am an employee of a company that uses TriNet. I have called a few times, about my FSA coverages, direct deposit, then about a stolen FSA card. The folks who I have spoken with were always kind and considerate of my issue. Each time I called the issue I called about was resolved. The only thing that kept me from giving them five stars is it does feel like the person you speak to is not as personable as they'd like to be. It had the feeling to me like they were working from a basic script of what to say and how to talk to you, then they were eager to move on to the next call. I don't believe it was an issue with the employee, but more perhaps how they are trained to handle telephone calls. It would be nice if they were a little less 'robotic'. read more

OK look, I have used more than one HR and benefits support service and it is a tall order to fill. In this line of work there are more balls in the air than any other industry and all of them affect a person's livelihood. From an employer's perspective, they are extremely thorough and always provide that high road advice we need to navigate in this litigious society. Expect to see plenty of one-stars here just because of the industry, and when people are mad they are REALLY mad. I bet the vast majority of these complaints are due to operator or employer error. Have I complained about the service here before sure I have! In my experience though it is because I am scrambling to address an oversight on my part LOL. They provide service that is as good if not better than ADP so far and they particularly shine in the honest to goodness benefit support for our employees. Their reps are well trained. UPDATE: I got a message here from Fatima A at TriNet asking me to send her my information so she could escalate. I did that, and never heard back from her or any other named person at TriNet. I did get a further series of nasty, anonymous "screw you" letters from TriNet Benefit Appeals. Suggestion if you have a TriNet FSA: You have access to the entire annual amount at the beginning of the plan year, even though you haven't paid that much into it. (They don't tell you this, but you can check the law for yourself.) Use it all, and quickly. If your job disappears, DO NOT believe anything they tell you on the phone or post on your account on their website. If they decide they gave you the wrong information, they will keep your money. read more

I have been using Trinet for over 3 years. We are a small company. Our agreement was $100/M fee and thankfully it never changed until one day in January 2021 they sent a subtle email stating the minimum fee per company is now $1000. $1000!!!!, thats 10X what our original agreement was. For small companies like mine, thats an unreasonable jump. Obviously we had to cancel our plan which screwed up employee benefits etc. Which reputable company does something like this? You have to deal with several individuals to get things done and its never the same person. They do not answer their calls or emails within an accommodating time frame for their clients.
