The first time I came here with my boyfriend was in the winter of 2018. We were pleasantly surprised. Unfortunately this time we didn't have a great experience. Sat at the bar for 15 minutes before someone acknowledged us. Not an exaggeration because we had to go feed the parking meter. After someone finally asked if we were helped yet, they took our order. I only ordered the desserts. 10 minutes later server came back and asked us if she was the one who took our order and what we ordered again. The cake was not as good as it was the last time...very salty cream. But the cobbler... I remember it being really good the first time I had it. Service is a little slow and not very welcoming (could just be me since I am visiting from Texas).... but the food is phenomenal. I love being able to find plant based restaurants like this when I travel. They are so creative. Try the chili cheese fries or the BBQ Jackfruit Wrap, both were really good to me. I choose this place to go to with my host family for my birthday dinner and I was very happy with the food (especially the brownie and the FREE birthday cake!!!). I'm the only vegan and coming from a small city in Germany having an all vegan restaurant where you don't have to ask for a vegan menu but can just pick whatever sounds best was such a great feeling. We shared the soul food platter, grilled cheese with tomato soup, lettuce wraps, nachos supreme and the Chicken Quesadilla + dessert. Everything besides the collard greens and the spanish rice was good; best part were the lettuce wraps, brownie, cornbread, cake and the grilled cheese. I just wished the cheesy food was more stringy and more cheesy overall. The place looks great and fresh, too. I love the black ceiling! Staff was super nice and radiated a pretty relaxed atmosphere which I really liked! I really liked this place, same with my (omnivorous) host parents. read more

I visited Trio during my trip to Minnesota over winter break. I tried the soul food platter and it was by far the best ribs and cornbread I've ever had! Keep in mind I'm from LA and have tried so many other vegan ribs/cornbread. I also had the spaghettrios which definitely took me back to my childhood. I wanted to go again but it was a short trip. I would love to see them open up in LA! LA vegans would be so much happier! read more

I really wanted to like this place. I really did. The service was awkward, forced, and obviously unexperienced. The server dropped the check in the middle of our meal, and bussed one of our plates before we were done eating. It was honestly very strange. The food was meh. I don't really understand what all these raving reviews are for; maybe they've never been to a decent vegan restaurant? The greens were SO salty, the sweet potatoes were way too sweet, and the chips were reminiscent of gas station nachos. Stale atmosphere and four servers watching the restaurant through the kitchen door window was the icing on the cake. Such an uncomfortable way to eat your dinner, with four people peering out at you. AMAZING!!! We were so excited for our first (of many) dining experience at Trio that we ended up ordering almost everything on the menu. Each delicious plate was as impressive as the next so it's hard to pick a favorite. I loved the ham and cheese sandwich served with tomato soup - but again everything was 10/10 so no matter what you're in the mood for you can't go wrong. Going plant based was the best thing we've ever done for our health, the environment and especially the animals - the ultimate win/win/win - but Trio added another win, racial justice! It was pretty meh, the only thing really going for it is the Herbivorous Butcher stuff which is always delicious. I wonder if they are relying too heavily on HB to sell their stuff, the rest of it is basically like what I would expect Chile's or TGI Friday's to offer. As much as I would LOVE a vegan soul food place in town, I foresee this succumbing to the curse of this location sometime this year... unless they really step up their game. This was a seriously amazing experience. The flavors were so strong and yummy. The staff was friendly and helpful. They gave us plenty of time to eat but check in on us a good amount as well. The nachos, jack fruit roll and strawberry cake was absolutely to die for. This is an amazing place that believes in social justice and kindness. I would recommend it to any vegan or non vegan! So glad Minneapolis has a completely 100% vegan restaurant right in uptown!! I'm from Minnesota originally but moved to LA a few years ago. So I was totally stoked when Trio opened, and I was dying to visit! Finally came in with my vegan boyfriend, and non-vegan brother & his girlfriend. My brother ordered the quesadilla, and demolished it in 5 seconds. His girlfriend ordered the Beyond burger (for the first time) and totally enjoyed it. And I got the blt with a side of mac (both awesome!), and my boyfriend got the ham and cheese melt (happy to have some Herbivorous Butcher on the menu as well!!). We checked out Trio last night and suffice to say that we will be back! I wasn't too hungry so opted for the Spaghet-trios. It's a yummy bowl with tomato sauce, circle noodles, and some potato chips on top for texture. It felt like a soothing tomato soup with some welcome additional elements. I'll get it again! I did try some of my boyfriend's soul food platter, and I'm definitely getting that next time. My favorite part by far was the rib, which I believe is from Herbivorous Butcher. The wait time for orders is entirely too long. We were told it would take 35-40 minutes and it took well over an hour. And we rarely saw anyone picking up orders ahead of ours; so what took so long? Meanwhile, we wait feeling so famished that we dread mustering the energy required to find a spot nearby to eat it because there's no seating available inside or out. i really did enjoy the food. the servings are plentiful IF you have the platter otherwise the bowl was 17 bucks and some change and though delicious, could not be justified at that price point. i recently ordered the four choice platter, not including a drink and it was 20 bucks. (right before closing time) and had to wait until it was brought out to me. they are busy and i get why, but the service operates with added stress as it seems they're understaffed. nonetheless, would recommend for a non meat alternative but i can't find justification in a 3 dollar difference. read more

Great place for a vegan! Had the soul food platter (ribs, mac n cheeze, and cornbread). Wife had grilled ham and cheeze with spaghetti O's. Everything was delicious! Now I am a meat-a-tarian and I even thought the food was good. Let me be clear, you ARE NOT going to fool any one at a rib fest with these ribs, but if you accept them for what they are, they are good. Mac n cheeze was better than some if the real stuff I have had before. Grilled cheeze, well, it was great too. Minor suggestion: to compete with the other restaurants, this place will need to put in beer taps and a full bar. Even Vegans love a good Bloody during brunch! read more

Cauliflower wings with Trio Ranch dressing get a high crave-ability score from me. My favorite way is to get them is without the sauce and then dip in the Ranch-- liberally! The burgers are all delicious, and my current favorite, the Falafel Burger, is crisp on the outside and creamy but substantial on the inside. I ordered the Mac Attack burger (also comes w/ fries). I was worried that it was going to be just mac & cheese in between two buns and no patty, but I was surprised that it came with a patty! It's a beyond burger with american cheeze topped with mac & cheeze and buffalo sauce on a pretzel bun. I will say that I don't like buffalo sauce and I don't like vegan cheese. I still don't like either of those things but I do love how creamy and flavorful Trio's mac & cheese was. The noodles used were BIG and wide not like the ones that come from the box. Terrible comparison, I know. It had a more bouncy texture if that makes sense. It was also messy to eat, so prepare yourself with a napkin bib! I ended up eating all the mac & cheeze on top and with some leftover salad I had, ate that with the patty paired with the pretzel bun. It was delicious! The fries were also so good! I'm so picky with fries, they gotta have the right amount of crisp and saltiness. I like that the fries weren't soooo saturated in oil to the point that you could feel it in your pores. It tasted fresh, salty, crispy, and that's a great balance when you're eating a saucy burger. I also ordered cornbread because I haven't had it in so long so I really had to get it! I've actually never had vegan cornbread so it was surprisingly just as fantastic as it's non-vegan counterpart. The maple butter was a wonderful addition for the perfect amount of salty and sweet! Well, there ya have it. I'm glad to report that I'm happy, full, and quite sleepy from all the carbs. That's a good thing, right? Unfortunately, no pics this time since I inhaled it all the moment it arrived at my doorstep. I have been wanting to try this place for a few months and finally made it over to Minneapolis. Wow. It was so worth the drive! We had the soul food platter and the black bean sweet potato lettuce wraps. The collard greens were PERFECT. The Mac and cheeze was Delish! Oh but that corn bread. Shut the front door!
