Recently in Chicago for a girls weekend and after hitting the bars in Wicker Park and River North Friday and Saturday nights we wanted a low key place to catch the Patriots and do some day drinking. We were staying in Wicker and there was a place Anthem that had been recommended to us but when I looked up "Boston Bars in Chicago" the Tripoli Tap popped. It turned out to be the perfect find! It was about a 45 minute walk from where were in Wicker on N. Noble. The google route was through an area that seemed sort of sketch, so if staying again I might forgo the walk and take a cab, but after a night of drinking before we needed the fresh air. Probably a $10 cab ride, maybe less. I had a friend who lives in Old Town that joined us and he took a cab, said it was easy and cheap. When we first got there the place was a little emptier than I thought it would be, but by 15 mins into the first quarter the place filled up. It wasn't packed but was a good crowd of fellow Patriot fans. It's small so I could see how during a big series or playoff run, the place could be tight on space but personally, I think that adds to the energy of the game. The bloodies and beers were great and our waitress made sure that we were never without. We were pretty much there all day since the game started at 12:30 and we were there until about 5:00. Our waitress took awesome care of us, nachos were amazing. Friends had wings (which were fantastic) the sloppy joe and another friend had some kind of sandwich- I don't remember what it was but she said it was great! At the end when we went to settle up, you couldn't ask for a more reasonable bill considering the amount of booze we consumed and food we ate! I highly recommend the Tap to anyone from New England visiting or being lucky enough to live there! read more

Have been a few times before for Red Sox games with great service. Went tonight for a Bruins game and had the worst service experience of my life. A woman bartender with purple hair (who was ripping shots the whole night) said to my friend "who the fuck do you think you are" "where's the fucking money" and "go fuck your self" when he asked for our bill to be split between 2 cards. It was clear the bartender was lights on nobody home because of how much she was drinking and that is no excuse for the treatment my friend got. Won't be back here and neither will the few dozen Boston friends we brought here. read more

Okay, okay. So we all know that Tripoli Tap is the place to be for Boston transports to watch their beloved Sox whoop up on the Yankees, but what does it have to offer native Chicagoans? I'm glad you asked! I've ventured to Tripoli Tap mostly on Friday or Saturday nights, and every visit has been a great experience. The bar is homey, there is plenty of seating, and you can cozy up to the fireplace on those cold winter nights. The tunes come from an internet-based juke box, so make sure you grab the table next to the juke box so you can provide feedback (or dictate choices) on the music selections. I suppose the thing I liked best about Tripoli Tap is the general vibe of the bar. So often smaller bars are filled with small groups of people not looking to mix and mingle. Not the case at Tripoli. The clientele is fun, welcoming and chatty. Me likey! Also important to note: Tripoli has special bomb shot glasses, so order up those O bombs and have a great time! read more

As a Red Sox fan, I'm obliged by the law of Red Sox Nation to love the Tripoli Tap. But even if I weren't, I'd still be a fan of this bar. Great bar service, great jukebox, and during baseball season, you actually get to hear the soothing voices of the NESN commentators. Who could ask for anything more? Tripoli is my go to spot. Love the owner Nick and Dino whenever he happens to grace us with his presence. 2 dollar steak and chicken tacos is what's happening! I miss the feisty outspoken waitress Terri K she was the bomb! It's a neighborhood joint where everybody knows your name. There's no pretentiousness here! I grew up in CT and lived in Boston 10 out of the last 12 years. So when I moved to Chicago this January I was inquiring where I could get my Boston sports fix from some friends that used to live here. That all said Tripoli Tap. Sometimes you just want to be around some Baahston massholes to enjoy your Patriots, Celtics, Bruins, and Sox games. Although I was traumatized my first visit to Tripoli for the Patriots loss to the Jets, I have come back for some Celtics games and look forward to watching the C's put a hurting on the Bulls in the playoffs. I hear it is a great spot to watch a Sox game too, apparently now that I live in Chicago I need to elaborate and say Red Sox though. The bar has a great feel and ambiance. While there is no place I would rather be than Chicago it is great get be able be around other Boston/New England fans rooting for the same team. Moving to a city where I did not know anyone I have met some cool people at this bar and everyone has been friendly (which is not the norm in Boston). If you are a die hard Patriots fan, then this is the place to be! You will find plenty of other Patriots fans to cheer with you and/or sob/swear/cry with you- all for the team. It is a Boston bar with great crowd and cheap drinks. The food is also delicious and service is friendly! The place is a bit small, so if you were to catch a game here, I would advise that you arrive at least 30 minutes early, otherwise you might have to stand for the whole game. It is a really fun bar, and even if you are not a Pats/Boston fan, you will still feel very welcomed there. Of course, nothing beats partying with awesome Patriots fans and getting a good buzz. One bartender was great a worked pretty hard and made some decent drinks; however, the other looked like he was hassled and didn't want to make a drink at all. I am from Bloomington, so I am not used to these Chicago prices everywhere I eat. It was nice to find a place like this where I can get quality food for a price I am used to paying. When you go somewhere cheap, you don't usually have the highest expectations for the food you are going to eat, especially if it's a bar. I got the chicken sandwich, a cup of chili, and a beer and with a hefty tip my meal was under 15 bucks!
