This place is in the Indian-heavy area of Northern Virginia where all sorts of interesting cuisines can be found from the subcontinent. The name, however, apparently refers to U.S. jurisdictions (despite the fact that it is near two states and one district, not three states). The menu offered variety, and I sampled a dal based on pickle spices, a mild stir-fried noodle dish, and some fried baby corn, as well as a shake which I enjoyed later. Came here with my family, they've only recently opened. Walked in and enjoyed all the colors and pictures I saw on the wall. The style was cool. Food was good, we ordered a bit too much but everything we did eat tasted great. They were a bit staggered with bringing out our entries, one person especially received their meal about 20 minutes after the rest of us. Also, this one might be personal preference, but I didn't enjoy the mango mojito, it tasted weird to me. read more

We placed a catering order for around 12 people. The food was absolutely delicious. Upon arriving to pick it up at the agreed upon time, the food was not ready. They were 20-30 minutes late, and my dinner/event was late because of this. There was no apology or compensation offered. Otherwise, the restaurant looks nice inside. read more

Hm, ok so this one's a bit of a mixed bag. First thing that stands out, when we walk in we notice there's a projector screen showing pop club hits (e.g. Major Lazer / Chainsmokers / etc.)...and boy is it LOUD. I'm sure some are into that, but personally my wife and I do not enjoy loud club music when we are at dinner, especially when the general ambiance of the restaurant is more intimate. Even after asking them to turn the music down a couple of times, it was clear they did NOT want the music to be background noise. Now, the food: Bhel Puri - this was too sour/tangy, I thought it was still pretty good but my wife found this inedible. Definitely seemed like it had way too much lime in it. It was also too spicy, which appears to be an imbalance in the tamarind chutney (sweet) vs. the coriander chutney (spicy) used in the sauce. Veg Biryani - wife ordered this one. Veg Biryani should mean "substitute something for the meat e.g. potatoes" but keep the usual ingredients. So maybe something like garlic/onion/coriander/whole spices and then potato being the main flavor. But this place interpets Veg Biryani as "add ALL the extra vegetables!" This biryani had tons of different vegetables in it, notably it had vegetables that both of us think do not belong in biryani such as cauliflower and carrots. And not a dice or a mince, but huge chunks of carrots and full florets of cauliflower. It also had green beans in it....like a LOT of green beans. Too many green beans. Hyderabadi Chicken Dum Biryani - this was my entree, and it was unexpectedly good. Everything in good proportion, not too many of any one ingredient, the chicken was well-cooked and well-spiced. It's everything a chicken biryani should be. If all the food was up to this level this would easily be a 5-star restaurant for me. Chikoo shake / mango lassi - ok, very standard flavor that you can find at any indian restaurant. For a restaurant that presents itself as upscale this was pretty disappointing. Samosa - a couple of issues with this one. Firstly, this is crazy salty. If you love salty foods you'll love this, but if you like a more subtle flavor this will be too salty for you. Secondly, this was downright crunchy. The issue is that the shell of the samosa is way too thick compared to what it should be, and so it requires cooking a long time to cook all the way through, which then overcooks the outside making it way too hard. Now, my wife pointed out the bhel puri issue, and they did make an attempt to go above and beyond by giving us some free food replacements. But the replacement was the samosa, which has the issues that I described. They also gave us a free sample of their gulab jamun dessert as well. So I can't fault the service, they really tried their best here! I enjoyed my meal much more than my wife, so if you are discerning about your indian food, the dishes here are very hit or miss. If the food was better and they turn off the music videos this would be a 4- or 5-star easily. read more

Tristate gobhi - they took raw gobhi and wrapped in green chutney... i wish i could get money back for entire 65$ dollars i spent. We ended up ordering food from another place after this debacle. Third grade Naan - baking soda to extreme, that is was smelling like cake, burnt on top of it Paneer butter masala - this is only reason to even give 1 star else this place is like -10 . I recently visited a friend's house in Herndon, Virginia, from Texas and while searching for a place to hang out on Yelp. I came across Tristate Restaurant. It turned out to be a great spot with good ambiance and friendly hospitality. We ordered a few appetizers, and the chicken drumsticks and fish fry were my favorites. Cris, the bartender, impressed us with his cocktails, and I have to mention the Hyderabadi goat dum biryani--it was authentic and reminded me of the true taste of home as a Hyderabadi. read more

Got take out for the first time on 11/24 and it was great. I got the chicken 65 biryani with Naan to go. Container was completely packed and wrapped on with plastic wrap to keep secure I got the spicy and they delivered, enjoyed every bite through my tears, really enjoyed how spicy it was. The Naan was fantastic too, generous servings of both sauces that came with it. The little I was in the restaurant was impressed with the vibe. This is my first time here. I immediately fell in love with the ambience and colors of the restaurant. A server was very helpful and helping us understand the menus and the intensity of the different dishes. We tried several appetizers and was very pleased with the cauliflower and the garlic naan. A service was very attentive and making sure we had plenty of drinks always filled and even checked in to make sure things were not too hot for us.
