Very disappointed. Ordered salad and the prime beef hamburger. It was the filet sliders that really ruined it for me. They were rock hard. As in, the bread was over toasted/cooked whatever the case was, they were inedible. I've never had food that overcooked before. Especially something with bread. That really put me from ordering again. If I had not been traveling, I would have turned around and asked for a refund on the sliders, or a replacement. However, it is what it is. And all I can say is if that's a normal for this restaurant, I'd be sure to triple check your food when you pickup to go. read more

Went at lunchtime and with only a handful of other diners in the restaurant, the service was still terrible. One of our glasses had lipstick on the rim, food took a long time to come out, and when it did come out, it was not good. Tater tots were soft/undercooked and gross. A large group of us came here on a weeknight. The space is what you'd expect from an everyday bar and grill type place. The service was excellent - the young man who helped us was super friendly and accommodating. The food was just average. Shrimp salad was good, but the other dishes were just ok. We just had dinner at Kitbar, and it was the first night Andrew was working as manager. The place was operating at tip-top efficiency - had our drinks within minutes and our meals very quickly thereafter. I'd never had the French dip before - it was very good! I went there on 10 June 25 based on the reviews here. I do not plan on ever going back. I ordered the burger cooked medium and it came out medium rare which was OK by me, but I can't imagine how it would have been if I had ordered it medium rare? I guess it would have still been mooing! Our server was NOT very attentive at all. Twice one of her co-workers picked up on the fact that we placed our empty Martini glasses close to the bar to get another round. This was my first time here. It's a nice cozy place that has the kitchen in the middle of the bar. Sadly I didn't take pics as I was out with friends. Stone's was recommended to us while we were on business travel in Herndon. The restaurant is big with lively music playing. The 4 of us found a spot at the large bar for lunch. I'll start with the good: service was fine. He was friendly and checked on us often. The food came out fairly quickly. It should since we were practically the only ones there. Now the bad: we ordered a salad, wings, pasta and shrimp and grits. The 'homemade ranch' was basically mayonnaise. You wouldn't think you couldn't mess up a salad but this place definitely did. T took 3 bites and was done. The pasta was tasteless. The sauce was watery and bland and the extra chicken I paid for was dry and bland. I added tons of salt and pepper to it and still didn't finish half of it. The wings came out smoking hot. So hot it burned D's fingers. After reading the reviews below, we found out it's because they microwave their food. Sauce was also bland and he also did not finish his plate. The shrimp and grits were the only edible item, and that was because C hadn't eaten for 18 hours she was starving. All 4 of us agree we will not return. 3 stars because our server was great, the bar was clean and food came out fast. Friend ordered the steak, which came out gray in color. He also ordered a side of plain tater tots, but they arrived as "firecracker" tots instead. The coke was flat. I ordered a burger, and it was the tasteless . My plain tots were also gray and equally bland. I tried a small taste of the ketchup, but it tasted like fish. We had been really hungry (borderline hangry) before arriving, so we just went with it and didn't say anything--mainly because the staff were friendly. And the prices.. 2 items we ordered were advertised as a special that specific day (otherwise I wouldn't have ordered them) and we were overcharged by $5 on each of them. There seemed to be a lot of staff, yet everything was slow. The ambiance was not appealing. Unfortunately, this is a meal I feel was a waste of time, money, and calories. Dining out (especially in this economy) should mean food that's noticeably better than what you can make at home. I'm not sure how this place has any stars at all, much less 4.5 stars, but maybe our visit was the one where everything was terrible and went wrong. To start things off, my wife got an ice water and I got an unsweet iced tea. When I finished my iced tea, I noticed that my glass had lipstick on it, which I did not order, and is why I'll always being using a straw in the future for my drinks. When I asked the waiter for a new glass of iced tea because mine was not only finished, but had lipstick on it that I did not order, his response was "sorry about that". Ok, it happens, I moved on, but you can bet it was still on my bill. That should have been a red flag to leave immediately, but we had already ordered our crab dip. When the crab dip came out, we could tell immediately it had been microwaved a few times by the concrete cheese burns on the sides. Didn't even get close to finishing that because it was awful. Couldn't walk away from this now because we had already ordered our lunch and we're waiting for what surprise came next. I got a Cobb salad, and grilled chicken with goat cheese, my wife got a Cuban sandwich and upgraded from the chips to tots. Not only did it take an incredibly long time for our food to come out, the 3 dishes they brought to the table might have been some the the most awful looking food brought to us at a restaurant.....ever. This is not an exaggeration at all. My Cobb salad was brought out with my main, and clearly wasn't a Cobb or anything like the description on the menu, and the tater tots that came alongside my wife's sandwich were grey? I've never seen grey tater tots before, but not only was the color well off, they were mushy and after using my fork to mash into one, the inside a color not usually associated with food. When the waiter was setting the plates down in front of us, my wife immediately said "nope" and asked for the bag a chips as the tots were just way off. Not sure how you screw up tots, but they figured it out. My salad was not a Cobb, but also all of the lettuce had brown edges and the other items in the salad were incredibly soggy? My goat cheese grilled chicken was so chewy I was not able to eat it all, much less cut it, and for $20, that really aggravated me. Bottom line is I would never recommend this establishment to anyone, even someone I didn't like, and if they are still in business in 6 months, I'd be incredibly surprised given the experience we had today for lunch. Our total bill came to $76 for 2 people for lunch, which hurts more than anything, but as my wife and I returned home, her thoughts revolved around hoping she doesn't get sick from something that we ate there given what we just went though. This place is interesting. The concept is you are supposed to feel like you are sitting in the kitchen while your host prepares dinner. Well what if you host prepared all frozen proteins in your face and use cheap pre-prepped short cuts. If you're gonna cheat do it behind the curtain not a display kitchen. Food was not "bad" but you could tell how it was prepared. Once you see how the sausage gets made you can't unsee it. Was unappetizing before I even ate it just by watching. The food at this restaurant is completely confusing. Our server brought out our main dishes before our appetizers because she apparently believed we were ordering mains as our appetizers and appetizers as our mains. This didn't necessarily impede the quality of our experience but it did heighten our disappointment when the food finally arrived. My brother and I ordered pulled pork sliders and a flatbread respectively, both of which were quite good. However, the later items were not of nearly the same quality. The hot&cold dips were mostly good, besides the artichoke dip that tasted entirely like warm cream cheese and parmesan. The meatloaf cupcakes were completely bizarre, I don't think a single component of them from the seasonings to the potatoes and sauce worked well with one another. The french dip was the worst offender; the meat was cold, metallic, and gamey of all things, with an incredibly mild au jus to complement it. The service was polite, respectful, and clearly aware of the issues from the dinner rush. I'm holding out hope that this was a one-night hiccup and that this restaurant is better than what we experienced this evening. read more

I used to live nearby, and this was a favorite "go to" happy hour spot. I haven't been back in years, but it was great to revisit this place, and see that the food is still very good, and the service is excellent. This is the only "Kitchen Bar" I have been to, and I like the idea of the open kitchen , and the flurry of activity, watching the staff prepare meals and drinks. It is a pleasant, immersive experience, to see and smell your food being prepared right in front of your eyes. All of the food is solid 4 star, and the service is 5 star, so I'll say 4.5 overall. read more

i think this place is good, but i just ordered the wrong thing. i tried their honey goat cheese chicken dish and the only good part of that dish was the goat cheese, although i didn't taste any honey anywhere. the chicken wasn't really seasoned and it wasn't really tender either. the four cheese spinach dip with the flatbread crackers were good. that comes with their hot and cold dip appetizer. i didn't really try any of the cold dips. the service was good and the vibe of the place was nice. the kitbar concept is cool. i'll definitely visit again and try something that's actually recommended. read more

The food and the service was good but one big thing left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I ordered an old fashion and asked for it to be made with woodford; a pretty standard request. The server said no problem and make the cocktail. What he didn't say was that would be an extra $13 on top of the $11 cocktail. If adding woodford is more expensive than the drink itself, then the server should let you know. All in all I paid $24 for a cocktail and didn't know until I looked at the receipt. I would come back for casual food but make sure to ask questions if you don't want to get a surprise charge at the end of your meal. read more

The server and cooks seemed to constantly be in each other's way and frustration was showing. The food: Mid at best. From our seating view, we learned that the food is actually cooked in the microwave then heated in the stone oven. It les to disappoint because (1) it took 30 minutes just to get a flat bread and cheeseburger. And when it arrived, it was cold. We also got the crab dip. That was better than the food. This place was awesome! A little culture shocker for sure .. nothing is fried .. only roasted and baked and also they had a wood fire oven. But to not have fries at a bar place (and no tater tots are not fries) is a little tough for me to grasp... almost left this place but stayed because of the reviews. I also ordered what the locals recommended, they said try the wings and the sauce is amazing, I wanted shrimp and grits but I went for the most popular dish.. after all I've never been here and they have tons of times so "why not?" We also ordered 2 ipas whatever local ipa they had was amazing! Always ask for a local ipa if your a beer lover like me.. they will not disappoint! They have been amazing everywhere I've gone! Even at the airport so yum! Depending on the state to. This place also offered amazing drinks, some great lobster rolls specials , and they had lamb lollipops with mashed potatoes , everything on the menu sounded amazing and the locals did not disappoint! I was out in the Herndon/Ashburn area for work a few weeks ago and stumbled upon this awesome little restaurant Stone's Cove Kitbar. The look and feel is clean and inviting. The bar basically circumvents the kitchen so you can watch your food being cooked and/or prepared. The menu is awesome, for they have great choices and the cooks do an amazing job at preparing the items. I ended up going to this place more than a few times while I stayed near by so I was able to sample a few different menu items. My favorites were the 'Naked Wings', 'Fish & Chicken Tacos' and 'Seared Ahi'. The Seared Ahi being my favorite. The staff alone was amazing. Matt, Nina, Katie, Sara, Stephanie, Kareena, Alexa, Jose, Kayle, Conrad, Ever were all amazing and treated me like family. They would always swing by and make sure I had everything I needed and was fun to chat with. Matt can make some great Chocolate Cinnamon Old Fashions. The owner and manager would also come out to check on the customers and they too would even help and contribute towards great service. A+ I really was impressed how the staff all worked together as a team and 'seemed' to be having fun while attending to customers. What a great experience coming to Stone's Cove was.
