We decided to give Janet a try with our 10 year old who was getting burned out with years of piano lessons. Her previous teacher was great, but Janet is definitely a better match. My daughter loves her and looks forward to her lessons each week. Plus she you have the option of going to her home (Poway) or having the lessons at your home. Definitely a bonus with our busy schedule to have the luxury of private lessons at home so there's no commute time. We can't be any happier! Janet is so nice and patient. She works with my girl and lets her play modern pieces of her choosing. They also go over important things like theories, scales, and play games to increase her note reading speed. This review was long pending. Janet's excellent methodology of teaching and her patience for teaching kids says loads about her. She goes with the pace of the student never pushing them too hard or too little (just the right amount ). She is very gentle and my kids (5 and 7) love her! Post COVID also, she has been doing great in the online classes with all the cameras setup nicely to show her view and the piano's view to the students. It was always my fathers's dream that I learn to play the piano. I crushed that dream when I quit at a young age. The teacher couldn't understand what I wasn't getting. Janet played as a guest pianist at a recital my two boys participated in while learning with our teacher, at that time, in Glendale. She was the former student of that teacher. My kids, especially my 4 year old daughter, were mesmerized by her rendition of Frozen's Let It Go. When we moved to the San Gabriel Valley, it was an easy decision to select Janet as our new piano teacher. My two sons have been playing piano since they each turned 5 years old - 5 years for my oldest and 4 years for my second. In that time, we've had four piano teachers, with Janet being the most recent. Of them, Janet is the most patient and gentle. While the three other teachers had more formal teaching methods, which my boys responded well to, Janet was able to tap into something much deeper. She understands children and tries to foster a love for not only the piano, but for music. She incorporates the standard/classic piano pieces - based on level - with music that actually interest my kids (Star Wars, Geometry Dash, etc). I often find the kids playing on the piano during their free time - and for kids to pass up the iPad, PC, or even TV... that says A LOT! Janet's lessons range from classical to hip hop. My 11 year old daughter has been playing piano since she was four years old. She started with lessons in a classroom setting, then transitioned to private lessons at home. Last year, her private instructor was unable to continue coming as he was pursuing his PhD and time would not allow for it. We were very concerned about finding somebody to teach her that she would have just as good a rapport with. Fortunately, I found Miss Janet. I was Janet's first piano student, over 10 years ago. She did not have a studio then. But she would come over to my house to teach with my piano on a weekly basis, sometimes I would go over to hers.
