Food was great! I ordered tacos and they were surprisingly good for the price! The service was pretty good too, and although the restaurant wasn't some fancy formal clothes only type of thing, the food definitely felt like it came from that type of place. Bottom line, the staff is friendly, the food is affordable, and the building makes you feel at home. read more

I had a chance to visit here, recently. I found that restaurant extremely clean and easy to locate. There is parking in the lot, off to the side, and street parking on White Oak Dr. I was greeted immediately upon entry. The staff is genuine and gracious. I was able to order very quickly. I was given ample time to review the menu amen ask questions. I ordered ground beef tacos, I requested to add cheese, which is an extra cost. My taco was served with a slice of lime and a slice of cucumber. It had the traditional 2corn tortilla shells. I found the taco ok, it wasn't horrible, but it was definitely ok. I was a little dismayed that they never offer any chips or salsa. They have have a nice place, I don't think I will revisit, but this is a really nice restaurant and easily found location. read more

DE-LIC-IOUS! Ordered steak, vegetables, pintos and yellow rice for $6.95. It came work a spicy hot red sauce and a mild green sauce. Mix all this together and this meal was fantastic! Flavorful. Comforting. Spicy. Salty. Delectable. Steak was tender. Vegetables were soft. Rice was fluffy. I ate every last bite and had to stop myself from licking my fingers (because I AM a lady, right ?). My order was a carryout. However, the lobby was clean. Service was prompt and friendly. Food was served piping hot. Value was exceptional! I plan to return as soon as possible. read more

First off the table hot sauce is homemade and HOT! It also has a Smokey flavor. A+. Not wimpy. My wife and I both ordered the taco entree. The tacos are small but very good. We also got some chips and salsa and could tell the salsa was made fresh. Those are al carte and not free. The rice and retried bean on the plate were also good. My only complain was the loud constant banging coming from the kitchen. We asked the waitress and she said they were prepping vegetables for next week with this machine that causes the banging noises. Seem like something they could do in to morning when customers were not there. read more

I heard great things about this place. ESP on their taco Tuesday specials. I live about 20' away and placed my order to go on the phone. I tried one of each taco. We also ordered some drinks. So I t was easy to get to and find. And the name of the place didn't suggest mexican but there are a few other items on the menu that explain the name I guess. Easy to grab food and pay. Although they charge extra for everything. Tiny little salsas were $1 extra. These are maybe an ounce containers. No thank you. I get it they need to charge but $1. That's a hard NO. Tacos came with lime Cilantro and onion. They were still warm when we got home. Shells were soggy tho and fell apart. Wal under the juice of the meat. The chicken was terrible. So juicy and flavorless that it wasn't even worth finishing. Same with the ground beef. So greasy and the meat was cold. Def didn't finish this one. I did like the steak. Didn't fall apart to easily and had good taste. Three of us ordered tacos and all had the same opinion. Glad I tried it being my first time but def will not go back for the tacos. Maybe try something else. read more

We've tried the beans rice and meat plate for lunch burritos the burrito supreme with french fries in it which is really a San Diego burrito and tacos and it was all delicious it's a little hole in the wall joint just like what I used to go to in San Diego. read more

Great food at a fair price, definitely a go to spot for lunch, Only thing I was disappointed in was that it says Dominican food out front of the restaurant and no one who works there including owners are Dominicans. I'm from NY where we are flooded with Dominicans , Puerto Rican's etc. I can tell the difference in food, honesty their "Dominican" food taste just like their mexican food so don't go with high expectations as I did. Overall still good food just don't like believing false advertisements. read more

We ate at Tropic Chicken on East State a couple nights ago with friends. I have never been to their first "original" location (on Taylor). They have a pretty good selection of foods on their menu, definitely not expansive but not sparse either. There are a couple items specifically under the "Dominican" section, and everything else was more along the lines of "authentic Mexican/Hispanic." Unfortunately I neglected to take pictures of the menu; I'll try to remember next time. (Yes, I plan on going back!) We ordered both of their agua frescas: mango and horchata. My wife liked the mango, but I preferred the horchata. Not quite as tasty as the horchata at Cebolla's (and Don Chavas), but still quite tasty and I highly recommend it! My wife had 1 chicken empanada and 1 cheese empanada; they were good, but the chicken was a bit plain and could use some (more) spices. I had a pulled pork taco with cilantro and pineapple in a double layer corn tortilla. When I go back I'll definitely have it again, as well as a couple more of the other 4+ varieties. The other dish I had was a grilled Mexican flatbread topped with refried beans, potatoes, chorizo, lettuce and sour cream. Pretty large, quite filling, and the chorizo was mild over all -- if you're not a fan of spicy food then this would be a good choice, not hot at all. If you want heat, go with the red salsa. The green salsa had a bite too, but it faded more quickly. One of our friends had the pork ribs, beans, and rice; given that he chewed the ribs down to the bone I'd say those were a hit. We each finished off dinner by splitting pieces of the chocolate flan... that hit the spot too! A generous piece of moist, dense chocolate cake on the bottom, a layer of flan on top, and chocolate syrup drizzled over it. read more
