A really good smoothie can be a bright spot in the day. Unfortunately, not all are created equal and if you get a subpar version, it can have the opposite effect. I've had the subpar version enough times that I've started shying away from getting them places and mostly make them at home. True story. Our first visit to Tropical Smoothie Café was driven by the desire to have one but the lack of ingredients at home. Because we weren't familiar with what they offered, we went inside. The area was bright and clean and the staff were understanding when we told them we needed a couple minutes to check out the menu. My husband decided that a smoothie wouldn't be enough to finish his day, so he also ordered a Chipotle Chicken Flatbread that comes with a bag of chips. We really enjoyed everything. The smoothies were exactly what we wanted and hoped for and my husband enjoyed the flatbread so much, he started talking about trying the other versions during our next visit. We've now visited twice, with the second trip being a quick stop going through their drive-thru. More smoothies and this time my husband got the Caprese Chicken Sandwich and I decided to try the 3 Cheese Chicken Quesadilla. Everything was exactly perfect again. I have one gripe and it's been consistent across many Tropical smoothies. It's the ordering of a Big Kahuna vs. Bigger Kahuna. It's not easy to find on the menu for kids and then the staff has, multiple times now, not understood the difference. One comes with a smaller smoothie, the other with a bigger one (it's in the name!). I would say it's happened to us 3 times and the 4th I had to tell the supervisor who was ringing me up 3x what I wanted. I know it's more expensive, I want the BigGER Kahuna. Besides that! I love these places. They're sandwiches are so tasty. No, they aren't insanely big but if you want big subs and sandwiches with more meat...go do that. My wife currently loves their Chicken Apple club flatbread. I have yet to find one that I dislike. The jerk chicken bowl or wrap is in fact really spicy FYI. The smoothies. Ok, so I hear they aren't from fresh juice? Which doesn't exactly bother me. The size though is in my opinion bigger than normal for that price. There really isn't a "tiny" option. You get the big one or a child one. The size makes it VERY easy to share and therefore potentially cheap at like $5 a smoothie that 2 adults and a child can share. Who are we here? I have worked at tropical smoothie for a while so I know what goes into the smoothies and what comes out. If you choose to be a bit healthier it is an option to take the sugar out of your smoothie just tell the person making your smoothie not add sugar and all you are taking in is Fruit. If you have never had their food you should definitely try their food they have the best flatbreads especially the pesto is always my favorite. One was named Andrew and the others name i don't recall, she was a tall blonde. Anyway, I was waiting for 15 plus minutes for 4 smoothies for me and my family. I noticed them not making anything and talking pretty relaxed back there so i politely got up and asked about the smoothies and Andrew snapped back that "we're getting to it" and the lady had to throw in "yeah we're busy", which, in all due respect was obviously false.
