If you can get past that part, Freddy's is a must. Solid subs--we did an Italian and a meatball--and the gelato/ice cream situation is ridiculous. Be sure to check your visit timings; for example, right now they are closed for a two-week stretch, I assume for staff vacations, and the hours are limited, because they are an Italian pizza/sub shop and like the ones in the city, they are not open late. But I like the back patio to extend eating space in the summer time, and people can usually move through quickly if they are just ordering the basics. The shop, featuring loads of Italian sundry goods and pasta items, works too...for those living near Freddy's that are missing spots like Bari or the other sub shops on Grand, or The Italian Store in the DC area, Freddy's checks every box.

I really wish I had gotten the Italian ice though because it was so hot outside and it would have hit the spot. I would definitely return as I'd like to get pasta and some of their homemade pasta sauce.
