Went to this location for the first time and it was empty around 5pm. The older lady working the front was very kind and made some recommendations that were helpful. She let us substitute blueberries instead of strawberries for the strawberry/banana kids smoothie. The minus two stars is because the drink itself was much watery than the texture of thickness I am used to from other Tropical locations. And I ordered two drinks...both were quite watery. Regarding the kids smoothie, idk if it is because I subbed for the blueberries but even so it tasted more like juice than a smoothie. I do not come to get smoothies often, but this is the Tropical Smoothie Cafe I typically go to for my smoothie fix. The individuals who work here are pleasant, and seem to know how to get out the product in a reasonable amount of time. I love the peanut butter cup the most, and even though I would love to try other flavors, I always end up with this flavor and it never disappoints. It is so delicious I drink it in five minutes, which is the reason I do not get smoothies more often. We also ordered the beach bum, which was refreshing fruit with chocolate. Love the smoothies...however, this location is terrible!! While normally slow, I put in an online order and was given a 10 minute wait time...ok, that's not bad. What is bad is when I get there after 10 minutes have passed & they haven't even started my order! While waiting another 15 minutes for my smoothie, a door dash driver came in to pick up an order that was placed 45 minutes earlier & that wasn't started either. There were 3 guys & the owner working and they couldn't keep up. All chairs and tables were against the wall but look sloppy. Saw several people sitting around without food, and two people behind counter making things. I asked how long it would it take for just a smoothie, and was told 12 minutes. At that point I walked out, did a rapid order on my phone for Panera across the street, and my Panera food was already waiting for me when I walked in the door. I've had the misfortune of ordering from this location twice; once by accident because their app (which had always defaulted to the Novi store) suddenly picked theirs instead, but the second time (against my better judgement) was out of convenience since I was on that side of town. When I arrived in Novi and they didn't have my order, I checked the app history and discovered that the order had been placed with W Bloomfield instead, and by this time I was almost to work and had no time to drive back in that direction. I called the store and talked to the manager, only to be told that the only way she would refund my money was "if she could sell my order to someone else", and that my loss was not her problem. I sent an email to corporate, only to receive an email back from the same manager stating, once again, that it was not her problem. She was extremely rude from the start, and assured me that "that's how customer seevice works". Funny, I've been in customer service my entire life and I'd have gotten fired for any one part of what she did. Second visit, I arrived at the store several minutes after my order should've been ready, only to receive a dirty look from a woman sitting in the back playing on her phone and who promptly moved out of my line of sight. I waited nearly ten minutes, finally yelling out asking if SOMEBODY could help me. I came here on Monday, April 22 at about 6:30 PM and it took about ten minutes for me to get my health nut smoothie with whey protein and extra whey protein after I ordered it. I appreciated that they gave me the excess smoothie in a smaller cup and it's surprising that other locations don't do this too. I often wonder what the other locations do with the excess smoothie-probably throw it out, which is super wasteful. The gentleman who took my order was friendly and warm and we had plenty to talk about thanks to my Cork Town Race t-shirt. So, the customer service was good and the smoothie was delicious, but it took an awfully long time for me to get it. There were two people waiting for their smoothies when I walked in and there was also a family of four who were waiting for their food. It looked like they only had two blenders in the back with only one of two people making smoothies, so it's not surprising that you have to wait a while to get your smoothie. The other person was making food orders. I can't overlook the fact that the men's bathroom was filthy with paper towels and toilet paper all over the floor and there was no soap. It wasn't that the soap was empty, there was literally no soap-no soap dispenser, soap bottle, bar of soap, etc. No soap is probably a health-code violation. read more

I am addicted to their Acai Berry Boost. No, seriously, I need an intervention. This tall, dark purple item, which sells for $5 and which I order without added sweeteners although you might find that too tart, is guaranteed to give me at least 3 excruciating brain freezes every time. Why do I do that to myself? It helps to sit down with one of their delicious sandwiches or roll-ups and pace yourself that way. In fact, they've become one of our favorite lunch stops when we're out. Unlike most smoothie places, tropical smoothie has options! By options I mean, you can go in and get a supercharged fully loaded smoothie for under 300 with no sugar! I got the triple berry oat, ground flax, Acai berry, pomegranate, peaches, ice, multi vitamin and whey protein! This was the perfect healthy treat after my workout and at the size they offer it will keep you full till dinner! Defiantly like supporting this location too, it's tucked away in a dying strip mall off haggerty.
