Weekends are made for Jennings BBQ -- literally, because they're only open on the weekends. Don't…read morebother trying to come Monday through Friday unless you want to be disappointed, because seriously - they are closed. If you plan it right, you won't be disappointed. If they have the smoked turkey, get it. Hands down some of the best smoked turkey you'll ever eat. We've been a few times when they were plum out (which was highly disappointing and we almost walked away), but even without it, the brisket, fall of the bone ribs, and jalapeño cheese sausage and everything else on the menu does not disappoint. Prices are reasonable, portions are good, and the sides are all crowd-pleasers. It's a food truck with outdoor seating, so on rainy days you'll want to plan on taking it to go. There are a covered picnic areas, but either way, the food is absolutely worth it. Golly, today- free Lonestar on standby while waited :) iykyk - thank you kindly & and see you next week

Why 5 stars? Because it's on the Mount Rushmore of BBQ for me after one visit…read more --- --- --- I was checking out the Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ joints in Texas list when it came out, and I was bookmarking a bunch of places on Yelp for my future travels. For any place located in the bigger cities: DFW, Austin, San Antonio, etc - there's a good chance I'd be able to visit them at some point down the road. Then I came across a local place: Bar A BBQ. I was thrilled that they made the cut. After reading their blurb, the next business listed was a place called Jennings. My eyes were darting around looking for what city Jennings was in. Imagine a movie scene where they close up on the person's face as their eyes widen and they are suddenly coming to a massive realization. Jennings was also located in Montgomery. I'm located in Montgomery. BBQ is my favorite food. I scour Yelp like a crazy person for new places to try and I've written over 3,500 reviews. I'm on multiple local Facebook foodie groups. And I had never even heard of Jennings. If you're simply reading this review, you probably don't actually know me. But I cannot properly convey to you how mind-blowing and unprecedented it is that a place like this would exist 20 minutes from my house and its existence would have somehow completely escaped my knowledge. I might not ever get over the fact that this happened. But I did what I could to make up for my ignorance and was first in line the next day that they were open after the article came out. So now onto the food.... ***The Important Part: The Food*** I won't bury the lede any more than I already have. Jennings is among the best BBQ I've ever had in my life. Since I first tried Franklin in Austin in 2021, I'd always said that it was #1. But then I had it a 2nd time and it was merely "awesome" rather than life-changing. Corkscrew in Old Town Spring has always been the top dog in all of Houston, in my opinion, but it's hard for me to, say that Corkscrew was definitely better than what I just experienced at Jennings. I started with a rib and just couldn't believe how great it was. The flavor was one thing, but it was the perfect mix between tender, but not so tender that it becomes a roast and just falls off the bone. And then I ate the brisket and couldn't pick which was better! I might not stop thinking about that brisket until at least the end of the decade. So thick, so fatty, so ideal. Give me a catering sized platter of this brisket and I will end wars with it. No words I can use will accurately portray how I felt about it. Calling it "perfect" somehow feels like an insult. And then the pulled pork. I always believe the pulled pork is easier in terms of having a baseline of decentness because it seems to be harder to mess up. But even it was just so undeniable. The sides ranged from fine to great. I am not really a pinto beans person, so that's the only side we didn't order. But the cowboy beans were basically just pinto beans with some brisket mixed in and that was the only thing I didn't care for. The coleslaw was just ok too. But the rest of the sides were all solid: mac-n-cheese, corn souffle, potato salad and the fried cabbage. The banana pudding wasn't bad either. But make no mistake: the meat is the star of the show here and it's not just a star. It's the sun and the moon and the galaxy. I'm ruined now because just about every future BBQ experience will just make me angry that they don't do it like Jennings. On top of their God BBQ, the people were super friendly here. They were giving us free samples since we were first timers even though we nearly just ordered "one of everything" on the menu. How I am just writing the 7th review for this place is a crime. How I was able to show up at 10:50am and be first in line for their 11am opening is a crime. If word gets out about what comes out of this trailer every Saturday and Sunday, they are going to need hire local law enforcement to direct traffic in and out of this gas station parking lot.

Their expertise and passion were evident, which made the experience even better. The brisket was excellent--very moist with a great bark, good flavor, and a satisfying pull. But if you only get one thing, make it the brisket burnt ends. They were absolutely awesome and I highly recommend them. The ribs were a bit too hammy for my personal taste, but that's a preference issue, as I prefer baby back ribs over the spare ribs they served. I tried two of their house-made sausages. The standard house sausage was pretty good, but the jalapeño and cheddar version was even better, adding a great kick of cheese and spice to their basic recipe. The sides were just as impressive as the meat. The dirty rice had some spice and was elevated with delicious shredded brisket mixed in. The cheesy tater casserole was fantastic--very cheesy with a nice peppery flavor and a great texture from the potatoes. For dessert, the cornbread bread pudding was an excellent choice. It was a gooey, decadent dessert with a perfect balance of cornbread and chocolate chips. We also grabbed a tallow chocolate chip cookie to go, saving it to savor later. Overall, this place is the real deal. From the knowledgeable staff to the top-tier brisket and sides, it's clear why they're so highly acclaimed. Very affordable as well!

We chose BAR A barbecue after carefully looking for what we hoped would be the BEST in the Houston…read morearea. We saw some great options ( Truth, Triple J, Killen's, and Brisket & Rice were all in the running, and we didn't try any of those so can't say on them). This was a thought out choice and I was super excited to try them! Being a family run operation was really awesome to me as well. First the good to great: the staff was super nice and helpful. The brisket was ah-mazing. Not too Smokey but cooked very tender and delicious! The barbecue sauce was on point. Sauces tend to range from too thin to too thick, too sweet to too spicy but Bar A's hit the bulls eye! Not too thin, not too sweet...I really enjoyed the brisket! Walking up, the smells were incredible! A nice outdoor spot to eat (it was a very mild day and just beautiful out..but I digress). Also, the Mac and Cheese...oh my!! Some of the best I've ever had! The downside: We drove an hour and a half especially to eat here...it was our primary reason for heading up to Montgomery! Getting there around 3pm, you would figure is a sweet spot for a restaurant open from like 11-6 on a Friday. When we went to order as we're trying to figure out the plate we want, you know, 2 meats or 3 meats ...sides, yum, as you're drooling, we were going for the TRINITY Plate. Brisket, rib and sausage...a nice cross section. Nope, we can't do a TRINITY. we only have brisket and turkey left. I know a lot of people love turkey. I'm not one of them and my heart was set on Beef. So now we're on a 1 meat and two sides track I guess. Ok, can we do brisket on the one meat? "Sure I can do that" was the cheery reply. So we got two plates brisket, and I asked could you make that moist cut brisket (my favorite, while my wife always prefers the lean). "Nope, sorry, we're all out of moist brisket". Ok, so one plate with cheesy potato casserole (doesn't that just sound amazing?) and Mac & cheese and one plate With cheesy potato casserole and pinto beans, that way we can get more great tastes and share, right? Oh, and bread, pickles, onions and jalapeños. (The bread is Martins and is always amazing if you know what I'm talking about...I think it's potato roll bread?). Got our plates and start to pay...two $20 plates and no drinks, just water. Over $50! Hmmm, well, the one meat tray with brisket has a $4 up charge. Hmmm. Sat down and got to chowing down! Here's where disappointment sets in. As I said, brisket and sauce was on point. The onions are maybe slightly pickled, not sure, but also very good. The meat, was 3 slices of brisket...4 would have been a sweet spot but eh, 3. The sides. Cheesy potato casserole had the texture of rice...I kept thinking it was rice as I ate it. It had some spice to it but very little flavor. Very disappointing. Mac & cheese--ah-mazing! Pinto beans were like a salt-a-holics take on ranch style beans. Not good. Almost not edible. But I was hungry. I put some sauce on the potato casserole and made it taste ok...still couldn't get Over the rice texture (I'm not saying it had rice, but just had the texture of a rice pilaf ). Two pieces of great bread rounded it out! So overall, disappointed that there wasn't more to choose (ribs, moist brisket, sausage) and I get it, They make so much and sell out then that's good business for them. To the customer who drove and hour and a half to eat there, not so good business. The sides were 1 for 3 in the good to great category and worst of all, after spending $50+ on lunch for 2, I was still hungry. I wouldn't have expected that for sure. I couldn't decide between 3 or 4 star but my missing stars shake out like this: 1 went because of availability and then ultimately being up charged for what was left. And 1 went for disappointing 2 out of 3 sides and portion size/value. Sorry, we didn't take any photos of the food.

Their…read more"next door" neighbor in the park is Nacho Birria which I've been to several times and absolutely love (checkout my review). So a few weeks ago while at Nacho Birria, I planned a return visit to this truck since I love Indian food. Don't sleep on this guy. The owner is a young guy who's relatively new in business so the menu is quite limited but has growth potential and good quality food! My wife and I grabbed the butter chicken to go for dinner as that's a classic fave of mine at most other Indian restaurants I've frequented in the past. I loved this dish. Good flavor, well seasoned, consistent texture, balanced heat and perfectly cooked chicken. I could tell it was made with love. He even gave us an order of Sa'Mosa to try. They were excellent! Perfectly cooked and well made stuffing. Good meal, nice guy, looking forward to the growth of this up & coming Food Truck!
