Trout lodge is definitely a family favorite whenever we visit the Cascades. It is conveniently located on US-12 on the banks of the Tieton River. There is a small convenience store, gift shop area and lots of pictures of successful outdoors-people with their game and fish. Classic American fare with some mountain offerings. The berry cobbler dessert with ice cream is always a crowd pleaser! Call ahead if you plan on staying over night as accommodations have been reduced over the years so getting a reservation can be difficult. You usually do not need a reservation if you are stopping to eat. Take some time to venture out along the river before or after your visit. read more

My coworkers and I stopped by here for dinner after work, and I am so glad we did! It is a homey log hunting cabin with a gorgeous view of a small garden and the river. The food was delicious and comforting, and the service was so fast. The staff there are so nice and made us seem like we are a part of their family. The blackberry cobbler is an absolute must. If you are crossing Highway 12 stop here. I always do and again today. We ordered.... Wait for it..... TROUT!!! Owners are so wonderful and accommodating when they can be. Remember that this place is pretty remote so there's times they might run out of something and if they do you just have to be patient but our visit today everything was available and fantastic. What I really like about this place is they make their dressings homemade not just Italian, which anyone can make homemade that one they don't make homemade, but they make their own French, ranch, blue cheese, honey, mustard, and thousand island dressing. The salad was lovely. They also have hot cider on the menu. Some thing I was surprised to see as well as various hot teas. I did notice they have beer and wine on the menu if that is your preference. Love this place, though I don't get by there often enough. Good food and good people. Desserts are "homemade" and worth saving room for.

I have found in past visits that the menu is very good the cook does an awesome job especially the first Sunday weekend of each month with his smoked cheddar salmon chowder it is unbelievably delicious. The staff are always pleasant helpful and gracious. The atmosphere is awesome to be able to sit next to the river and relax is great such a beautiful view. If you don't stop by you're either crazy or not hungry. read more

Amazing food! One of the few places that knows how to cook eggs "over-medium!" Bacon was delicious, eggs perfect and yummy sourdough bread. The OJ was a bit sweet but served in a frosty mug. Last month, before the fire broke out at Schneider Springs and closed the forest around this area, I stopped in here for something to eat after an afternoon hike in the Clear Lake area. This place is a throwback to mid 20th-century hospitality. Wooden floors, antlers and forest paintings on the walls, and a gorgeous view of the Tieton River complete with a garden that was tended to by the owners. The classic country music on the intercom also added to the rural feel of yesteryear. My burger was great, plump tomato, the fries were decent, and it felt good to have cold water after getting some exercise. The people working there are extremely friendly and (if they aren't busy) don't mind having conversations with you. May this place stay around for many more years to come. read more

What a Gem!!! We had headed up the mountains to see what the frozen lake looked like and this was a great place to stop for a late lunch early dinner. Stopped in for a burger after a rafting trip and couldn't have been happier with it. The place was quaint, friendly, and had an awesome view of the river from the dining room where we could watch rafts and kayaks whiz by. The food was good and looked like food does in commercials; my burger could have gotten itself a modeling contract had it lasted long enough. Kayaking Tieton and eating at this place for 25 years . Our kayak was stolen and had no phone reception. We are close to trout lodge so we went to eat breakfast and see if we could call police. Owner said phone was only for emergency use and we were the only people in the place. We had a group of 22 who ended up eating at Bron yr yar brewery multiple times and another restaurant for breakfast from now on and get items elsewhere. Talk about rude. I left today feeling deeply insulted and disrespected. We have enjoyed this restaurant for the past several years. It has become a family tradition to stop for hot chocolate and cobbler when we come back from sledding, snowshoeing, and hiking, and would stop for dinner after our yearly mt rainier trip. It was always a place we looked forward to visiting. This morning I would have given it a 5 star review. After the hostility I received I wouldn't give it one star. Me and my family were on our way to white pass to go sledding. We had already made plans to stop there afterwards. On the way my wife had to desperately use the bathroom. We decided to stop there, and asked to use the bathroom. They asked us to buy something which I get. I told them I would. My wife started walking towards the bathroom, and they snapped at her "where are you going." I explained that she had to desperately use the bathroom, and I would buy something while she was using it. They proceeded to yell at us and kick us out of the restaurant. We have lost a family tradition, and they have lost a customer. We felt so betrayed that my wife was in tears when we left. My husband and I had an early dinner with a beautiful view of the river. The restaurant was just like a cozy cabin inside. The dinner was excellent! We had the boneless pan fried trout pork chops, mashed potatoes, clam chowder and salad. This was a true supper club, an atmosphere which is rare these days. C.J., Lawrence and the server were great people. Very down to earth and friendly. We took pumpkin and blueberry pie to take home because we were stuffed. Also, they had one of our favorite beers on hand, Irish Death. That was a definite bonus! We look forward to returning to this hidden gem! Love this place! Been coming here for over 20 years. The owners are gracious friendly people. My children, who are grown now, have wonderful memories from stopping here in all seasons. Stopped here after summiting Mount Rainier last week, and it was exactly what we needed! Great food and excellent service! The staff made us feel right at home even though we looked and probably smelled horrible. We each had a burger and fries which were excellent and we also tried the homemade home smoked, smoked salmon cheddar chowder it was truly incredible. The Trout Lodge has a large, menu of delicious, mostly homemade meals. My father had, I think, a chili burger and the chili was homemade. I had whole breaded rainbow trout that was absolutely delicious. With a side of homemade mashed potatoes & gravy. The waitstaff was very friendly and definitely knew their menu in and out. The decor is charming & clean, lots of wood, as one would expect from a "lodge". The view from the restaurant is lovely. You can see the river flowing beyond their hummingbird-friendly garden. Very nice place and all that Yelp said it was going to be. Very clean, a diverse menu for a small, part time, operation (FSSM closed TWT), but the food and staff were great! Ambiance & atmosphere this place is a 5 star. Food it's a one star. It's like they shopped at Costco and just warmed up the frozen food for you. I have eaten at the trout lodge about 4 or 5 times over the last year and a half, the last time I went I said I would not go back because the food is not bad, but the portions are small and the prices are BIG not to mention the poor poor service I always get. I got talked into going back yesterday and boy did I regret it! My water glass was empty for a long time so when I finally got the waitresses attn., I asked for either a larger glass or a pitcher of water so she didn't have worry about our water, ( I tend to drink a lot, especially on a 95 degree day) I was told they have no larger glasses and no extra pitchers but that she would make sure my water stayed full.. Well it didn't.. That was not what bothered me, it was the attitude she had, she did not want to be there at all! The next thing which makes me remember why NOT to go back is that they charge for EVERYTHING! A friend wanted BBQ sauce for his sandwich and that was 75 cents, We got an extra plate because my wife and I split something and when we received the bill, that was a dollar more!!! who charges a dollar for another plate?! needless to say, I will never be going back to that place.. Oh yeah, I didn't have it, but my friend said the soup was as bland as could possibly be, but we were too afraid to ask for salt or crackers because that would have been another charge or they may have put us in the pit of despair! I know the previous two posts are all five star, perfect place to eat, but I really find it hard to believe that these are actual customers, Im guessing paid reviews or owner reviews..
