Last year, I approached John Korom, the owner, about bringing my installation Still Life 69 which had been shown before, to show at his gallery. He agreed as long as I brought new work. Good call. Not only did I get to show the installation in a different setting, I had new work to show also. John actually sent out email blasts, facebook posts etc about the show. The space is really special. He employs a special system for hanging your art, one like I've never seen before. I've never hung a show and it was really easy to do. Each artist has their work up for a month. It's really a 4.5 star rating. ;)

This place was a safe space for someone close to me for over a year. When she initially arrived at…read morethis studio, she was eager to take classes and learn the art of pottery but was quickly told that classes weren't necessary for her, so she carried on, asking questions along the way to those around her willing to help. Just recently, a woman by the name of Sue approached her out of the blue and told her that she needed to pick up all of her things and leave and take classes if she wanted to come back. She was then left scavaging for all of her pieces and tools in front of all of the other artists in the studio at the time, leaving my friend mortified. She was later informed that she asked too many questions and so prompted Sue to kick her out. Because that clearly makes sense. In no situation is that kind of embarrassment ever acceptable and if this is the kind of practice that you guys are running, I want zero part of it. I hope you take a moment to reprioritize the humans who give you the money to keep your business running because if you carry on in this manner, that energy will come right back at you. The colors turned out quite a bit different than I'd hoped, but now I'm motivated to return to try again so I can better perfect my vision! Having that addition was a nice bonus to our stay. Hours after we settled into our room, I went downstairs to check out the exhibits. I loved what was currently featured. Displays from up-and-coming artists rotate frequently and the captions next to their art illustrate the purpose behind their work. The best part is MOWA DTN is its free and open to the public. Check them out if you're in the area to experience a wonderful sampling of art and culture.

Super cool space that really involves the community in its purpose. Redline Milwaukee is a place…read morewhere anyone can come to see and engage in art. They have a few different art showcases a year (I think they change it out every few months) but they have space upstairs for artists to rent out and work on their own stuff. It was super cool to get a tour of that area of the building because there are so many talented artists in Milwaukee. I am excited for the resident artists to have their show so I can hopefully purchase some of their work -- That is how impressive it was! I think there is a 5 dollar encouraged donation, which is super cheap to see some great art, but again it is just suggested. The staff is very knowledgeable about the space, art and purpose. Started on a shoestring, Erico has turned this facility into the "To Go" place for original Theater, Music and Art. His productions are often sold out and his gallery offerings draw large crowds. Inspiration Studios also hosts "Make and Takes" and workshops. Studio space for artists and musicians and even magicians is available in the renovated upstairs. Major groups have shown their art here i.e. Wisconsin Visual Artists, League of Milwaukee Artists and The Rogues Artists Group. Nationally known artists, William Lemke and Lee Grantham have also shown here. Most gallery Exhibitions are free and music and theater productions are very affordable.
