I couldn't resist picking up two of their huge fry pies along with a peanut butter Long John, and they were every bit as good as they looked. The fry pies were packed with filling and had a perfectly flaky crust, while the peanut butter Long John was loaded with creamy peanut butter filling and was incredibly fresh. My wife couldn't stop talking about their cinnamon twist. She said it was one of the best she's ever had--soft, buttery, perfectly sweet, and full of cinnamon flavor. I have a feeling we'll be making a special trip back just so she can get another one! The staff was friendly, the bakery was clean and well-stocked, and there were plenty of Amish-made jams, noodles, candies, cheeses, and other local products to browse while we were there. If you're visiting Millersburg, Berlin, or anywhere in Ohio's Amish Country, make sure Kauffman's Country Bakery is on your list. I suspect it is cash only because it is operated out of an Amish residence. The goodies are appropriately labeled "home produced". They are only open Friday and Saturday until 5. When do they open? Who knows. Maybe 9 is a safe time. My friend arrived around 11. My friend got us a package of 4 maple cinnamon buns for $4 and a small apple pie for $3.50. The cinnamon rolls were light and fluffy to eat even though the package was heavy. Hubby and I split a roll but we arent big eaters. Store bought ones are denser. I liked these better. The apple pie, well you are now up against my mom who was Hungarian. My family had apple trees with several kinds of pie apples. No one ever could make a better apple pie than mom although Costco, with its crunchy apples, comes the closest. Still not everyone likes crunchy apples and this pie was nicely presented....just not Mom's. So many are looking for a good amish bakery and amish goodies. The inside was filled with almost like a rich whipped cream versus a buttercream. The shell was lightly fried, not greasy. I also snagged a box of fritters for the rest of the crew, but I sat silently on their porch swing and ate that donut and drank my basic coffee in blissful silence. It was the perfect way to start my day. They also offer an abundance of groceries and supplies for campers since the campground is nearby. I picked up a dozen-mix of joy: Long Johns, glazed classics, cinnamon rolls (the kind that whisper "just like Mom used to make"), and pecan rolls that should come with a warning label: "May cause spontaneous joy." Dropped them off with friends and boom--gone in two days, like a Netflix binge with frosting. High praise was given. Teeth were thanked. Waistbands were stretched. But I didn't stop there. Oh no. That's right, you can hold it up to your head and it will be just as large!!! This time, however, they put a twist on them and added icing to a few.
