While spending the day exploring Amish Country, we made a stop at Kauffman's Country Bakery in Millersburg, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. As soon as you walk through the door, you're greeted by the amazing smell of fresh bread and baked goods. Everywhere you look there's another display filled with pies, cookies, donuts, pastries, and homemade breads. If you have a sweet tooth, good luck leaving with just one thing! I couldn't resist picking up two of their huge fry pies along with a peanut butter Long John, and they were every bit as good as they looked. The fry pies were packed with filling and had a perfectly flaky crust, while the peanut butter Long John was loaded with creamy peanut butter filling and was incredibly fresh. My wife couldn't stop talking about their cinnamon twist. She said it was one of the best she's ever had--soft, buttery, perfectly sweet, and full of cinnamon flavor. I have a feeling we'll be making a special trip back just so she can get another one! The staff was friendly, the bakery was clean and well-stocked, and there were plenty of Amish-made jams, noodles, candies, cheeses, and other local products to browse while we were there. If you're visiting Millersburg, Berlin, or anywhere in Ohio's Amish Country, make sure Kauffman's Country Bakery is on your list. Come hungry, because everything looks amazing, and don't be surprised if you leave with a box full of treats for the ride home. We definitely will be back! read more

Hands down the BEST cream sticks on Amish country. We are particularly fond of the maple, chocolate and they have an amazing raspberry one that I believe is a seasonal offering. Almost always our first stop when we come to town! read more

We usually stop here on our way out of the Amish territory to go home. We always grab a few things to take back with us. This time it was terrible dry doughnuts & terrible service. We had a minor interaction with a weird customer trying to pick a fight with us & the service people were too terrified to wait on us like we did something wrong. One of the few places in the area open on a Sunday during the Fall. We were so happy to find it as we were just driving around the area sightseeing when we noticed people going in. They offered a very nice variety of iced and hot coffees. I had an Iced Butterscotch Salted Caramel Latte. They also had fried pies, and I grabbed two, a cherry and lemon, which were delicious! The girl who served us was so friendly and helpful and the gentleman even gave us a list of other places in the area open that we could visit. While checking out some of those places, other tourists would actually come up to ask where we found coffee, so hopefully we sent some business there way that day. We actually ended up stopping back to grab another latte before we hit the road back to Columbus. We now have it on our must stop places list when we visit that area again. read more

Have visited here several times. It was busy with lots of tourists but the service was pretty quick. I bought a loaf of bread, baklava & a shoo-fly pie. The baklava was really delicious. The loaf of bread was fresh. The pie was good though not quite as good as my homemade version. We'd shop here again when in the area. read more

This small shop really focuses on baked goods, but there are some other novelty items you can buy as well. OMG I just had the best chocolate eclair I have ever had in my life. It melted in my mouth. The cream filing was exceptionally smooth. It only cost $1.79. I am seriously contemplating moving to Millersburg. We also got a snowball- vanilla cupcake, vanilla cream frosting, shredded coconut, and pecans. It was also fantastic and cost $1.79. I bought baklava and a mini pecan pie but I have to wait until tomorrow to eat them so I don't go into a sugar coma. They also have some very unique milk. If I move to Millersburg, I will probably eat here twice a day and gain a lot of weight. read more

if you just go across the street from Heini's Cheese Chalet you are here. As a matter of fact they sell some of Heini's cheeses here already prepackaged. I like to come here because you can sample some of their baked goods and breads. It is pretty much in the same fashion as Heini's except you don't use a toothpick. Some of the breads were very good but also extremely pricey. In addition they sell giant pretzel donuts, cinnamon rolls, cookies, and even have a refrigerated section for perishable pastries. They also sell souvenir items some of which were unique. I was very impressed with the chalet they had hanging high on the back wall with two large cowbells on either side of it. Since we had already stocked up on goodies we didn't feel the need to buy anymore. The bread which I used to love was no longer here. Some of these breads you can buy at your local grocery store. The others were just a little bit too much for us. Still it is worth a visit in itself if you want to sample some sweet treats as well as different types of breads. read more

I wanted to stop at a bakery while we were out shopping for the day and I certainly was not disappointed by stopping here. There were way more baked goods than I imagined. It was so hard to choose what I wanted. I got a pack of cookies and a variety pack of donuts. My mom also got some bread for us to share. Everything looked pretty good, but for an Amish joint, it was slightly disappointing. I had a raspberry cream horn, which contained way too much sugar. And the pies left a lot to be desired. A little scant on the fruit content. Bagels were not bad. Coffee was good. I really think there is potential here. There is a nice variety. Samples galore so the hubby was in heaven! Lots of breads, pastries, donuts, etc but the breads are really the only thing you get samples of and maybe a stray cobbler. (The cherry cobbler bar we sampled was really good!) Unfortunately, we couldn't sample the thing we were there for which were the cinnamon rolls. We should've taken a bite of one when we got the so we could've gotten back ups if needed but we waited until breakfast and ugh. The glaze had some weird chemical taste to it and were hard even with being warmed up a little bit. Into the trash they all went. Sigh. We split a cream stick right after we left but weren't impressed so we threw that away too. They get decent stars from us for the nice staff and because of how much they do let you sample but maybe a donut/cinnamon roll sample would be a nice addition. read more

This is the place to go and spend whatever money you have left over after visiting Heini's Cheese Chalet, right across the street. Like Heini's there are many, many goodies, and like Heini's most of them are available for the tasting. The baked goods here are produced by Amish women, and while they are very tasty they lack the shelf life of grocery store baked goods. So when you buy, keep in mind that you should either consume your treasures within a couple days or freeze them as soon as possible and use them within a month or so. The breads are delicious, and the sweets are extremely tasty. With enough cheese and bread, you can make yourself an impromptu picnic and enjoy Amish country at the pace it should be experienced: relaxed. read more

Lovely little bakery. Like the cheese shop across the street, they offer samples to a lot of their breads, in the form of small plastic tupperware bins. What I really liked about this place was the special they had going on. Perhaps because it was around closing time, they had an offer of $8 for 6 pastries of various types. I got a cookie with icing, a chocolate pastry with cream filling, and one other that I can't remember. My friend got a doughnut, chocolate dog, and a cookie. Delicious and yummy treats made by local Amish and Mennonite folks. They have a great selection of breads, pies, desserts, jellies, you name it. Not sure what to buy? Can we say delish? If you're a foody like me, you'll love this place. The pastries are delicious and fresh. They are also large enough to share and are well balanced so not too much or too little sugar. I purchased several pastries, bread, and cakes to take home with me and EVERYTHING tasted amazing. This place is also open 7 days a week which is somewhat unusual for the area. We will visit them on every Amish country trip from now on. Keep up the good job Kauffman's! read more

If your visiting the area, this is a must stop! You will find all of the freshest, finest baked good to fill you up. Now, your personal trainer isn't going to be happy. Have any of these 5 star reviews been here lately? No self-respecting Amish cook would have served the pie I bought! The crust was mostly raw. It was too pale to even be called blond, hence it was soggy, not crispy and flavorless to boot. The coconut cream filling was respectable, just a little bland and the whipped cream wasn't. It was one of those deplorably fake and greasy whipped toppings that never saw a cow. The pecan rolls had a lovely pecan crunch, but had unfortunately been around a little too long - stale! The donuts looked good and the elephant ear was delightful. Many items looked a little under-baked including some of the bread and most of the fruit bars. These are rookie mistakes in baking that can easily be corrected. This place could be really good if someone cared enough to fix it. For now, I'm sure your clientele is mostly the tourists checking out Heini's and then the bakery. What a shame you're giving them such a poor representation of Amish baking, when you could so easily give them something wonderful. Not every visitor is an ignorant schmuck to be taken advantage of. If you want really good pies, head over to Shreve and Des Dutch Essenhaus and try one of theirs. (Perhaps the bakers at Kaufmann's should consider a field trip.) The donuts were fine , but the costumer service was awful . The cashier had an very clear attitude and foul looks on her face as soon as we entered the store . She also tried to charge my boyfriends card twice . She swiped it the first time then threw away the receipt saying it was denied . she asks for his card again it worked and we left. My boyfriends card has never been denied before, so i told him he should check his account to make sure they didn't charge him twice . And surprise , the first transaction was in fact not denied like the cashier had told us . He called and got it all figured out , thank you for that , but that's not the point . The point it is it felt personal. The cashier flat out lied to us. I don't know if its a race thing ( me and my boyfriend being an interracial couple ) or they just scam people like this all the time . Whatever the case may be, if you have to swipe your card twice check your bank account before you leave. read more
