As a new homeowner one of our concerns was a clearly visible dead tree, which was over 30 feet tall and leaning against another tree nearby. My new neighbors dubbed this the widow maker and refused to walk or park their cars nearby for fear of it falling. After calling Almstead we made an appointment for arborist Matt to come out and render an opinion. He was kind enough to walk our entire property (approximately half an acre) and render an opinion on all of our trees, pointing out several other dead trees and those that could benefit from pruning. He was patient to answer our questions and concerns, and even spoke to some neighbors the same day regarding their trees. After receiving a quote the same day, Matt was flexible to prioritize those items that we were ready to move forward with and did not push us to pay for those items that we didn't want to do. Several weeks later Matt and the team (Antonio, Javier, Luis) came back to take down two trees and trim two others. It was clear that safety was a top priority of theirs, and they took the time to clean up the yard before leaving. Several months later, a very large limb fell off one of those trees that was pruned, so we called Matt back out to take a closer look. He reinspected the tree, identified what seemed to be the culprit, and assured us that the tree is safe. He even took the time to take a closer look at spots on my lawn where I suspected a fungus was developing, identifying the problem as chinch bugs (never heard of them before). All-in-all, I would highly recommend Matt and the team out of the Hawthorne office. They're down to earth, will address your concerns, and won't try to steal your money with needless projects. Some came with reasonable prices but no insurance Some came - saw the trees and left. Some said they would come but never did. Westchester Tree came - gave a reasonable price with proper insurance. Once work began they couldn't have be more hard working and professional. Work was done in the allotted time frame - proper cleanup occurred every day. Cleanup included neighbor's yard as well. Co-owner Bill stopped by all three (3) days checking on progress. Bill is "old school honest" as he made right on a minor mishap on my fence. An Extremely Positive Experience

So I asked 2 more times what would be the cost to complete the job and finally I got an answer but it was 2X! Significantly higher than anyone else. I decided not to go with them. I was disappointed I didn't get Bill. Everyone said he's the honest one. He's the knowledgeable one. I noticed my neighbors aren't using WTL anymore either. Be careful when you sign with them. Make sure you read your contract. Be sure your quote is to complete a job, not just for part.

After hiring a real landscaper I learned that the 17 hydrangeas and 21 box woods they planted were double what they should have been and all too close together so now I have to pay to transplant them all. But here's the best part......they chose a hydrangea that grows to 7-8' tall and 6 -8ft wide and planted in an area 2 ft from each other with a 4 ft overhang so in 1 year they would literally grow into the overhand and die. Genius move JJ brothers. I'd love my $$ back now I get to pay twice. Used this company for 6 years and spent over $30k with Them. Recently noticed that my bill seemed higher so followed up to inquire. I was told that they increased my weekly price to mow my yard by 50% because the yard "got bigger and we would lose money." The yard did get slightly bigger but instead of taking them 20 mins to mow it now takes them 22 minutes to mow and one extra stripe on 2 sides. No heads up there was a price increase of 50%, no phone call, just put in my bill and tried to pass it through. Shady at best. Not to be trusted.

This woman took notes and said that someone would come back out and come up with an estimate. We understood that the next walk through could be done by her and her associate without my presence. More than a week later, and we haven't heard from or spoke with anyone regarding our concerns. I can't imagine how a business does business when this is how they deal with customers on day one. Apparently my money is different and they don't want it. Perhaps they have some beliefs or views which precludes their ability to work for me; and at this point I don't have to go figure out what that is. Don't be different and maybe they'll work for you (1 star by default no room for a big fat zero.
