Troy's Pizzeria- Port St. John, FL- 4 Stars "Oh, joy," I thought as I stared at the window on my random name generator, another Pizza joint. But hey, at least it wasn't a franchise! The name in question was that of Troy's Pizzeria in beautiful Port St. John...oh, who am I kidding, it's OTB and I don't like going OTB, alas duty calls. I truly enjoyed Troy's Pizzeria and recommend it over and other pizza joint in PSJ. As I was debating which bridge to use to cross the river, I looked up and I was there (it's not that bad of a drive after all). The tidbit of information that got my curiosity up was the fact that Troy's touted itself as serving "New York Style" pizza. For those not in the know, NY Style pizza is made with a defining overly large hand-tossed crust that is thin except the edge, this allows for the preferred method of ingestion, the New York fold. Upon entering Troy's Pizzeria I was immediately taken in by how clean the place was. I can get used to this aspect of a post-COVID world as who doesn't like a clean eating establishment? While it was nothing out of the ordinary décor wise, I found it to be a quaint little parlor aptly manned by Amanda. I asked Amanda for one slice of white pizza and one order of their stuffed shells with the proverbial garlic knots and a small side salad. The salad Amanda soon returned with was chock full of fresh vegetables and crisp, green lettuce. Sadly, the dressing was obviously out of a bucket. The garlic knots were just that, garlic knots. They were cooked properly and tasted fine, but certainly nothing extraordinary here. Moving on to the slice of white pizza. What I really like here is the crust. I hate overdone crust and this was obviously made to order, cooked properly and was delightfully amusing on the palate. The toppings were fresh, the sauce was tasty and it folded perfectly! Great job, Troy's!! The stuffed shells, while not bad in any way, didn't make the same impression on me as the slice of pie I just scarfed down did. The shells were cooked properly, the sauce was adequate and the rest is, as they say, history. I must make a disclosure here to my loyal readers. When I am comparing Italian food I rate pizza joints against pizza joints and sit-downs vs. sit-downs. So, for future reference, please don't ask me how a pizza place stacks up against a family-oriented sit-down Italian joint that has the obligatory pizza on the menu. Just moved to the area from CT and the wife and I were jonesing for some pizza. After some extensive searching, we decided to give Troy's a try. I was a bit skeptical when I pulled up and the parking lot was empty. Went inside and was immediately surprised by the old school pizza house aroma of the place. I was immediately greeted by a young gentleman with a very respectful tone. I was early and had to wait a few minutes for the pizza to be boxed up. It looked good coming out of the oven. Mind you, this was a to-go order, so I had wait till I got home for the taste test. My wife got a Sicilian cheese and I got the Troy's special. Needless to say, we were both extremely impressed! We ordered the Firecracker shrimp along with an 18" Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza. I ordered over the phone around dinner time and was told that it would be ready in about 30 minutes. When I arrived the food was ready for me to pick up. The pizza was very good and was Not greasy at all (which is a good thing). The shrimp was battered and fried to a golden crisp. They were nicely seasoned and topped with sliced jalapeños and banana peppers. They also came with ranch dressing for dipping. The shrimp were very good and I would order this whole meal again. My family and I have ordered from Troy's several times this year and have not been disappointed one bit. This is probably the best pizzeria around in this area and the prices are affordable too. We found this place unexpectedly. We stopped in and I got 2 slices of pepperoni and sausage. Sheila and Sandy got a 1/2 meat lovers 1/2 meat lovers with onions. WOW this is really good pizza, a small dining area, self service drinks and clean restrooms. We ate for $25 and left a tip. The atmosphere was nice and friendly. It's located on Fay Blvd near the railroad tracks. The pizzas are great and the atmosphere is friendly and comfortable. Just what a person needs to enjoy a great pizza. The mixed reviews promoted me to shine a light on this Port St.John pizza-gem! Tucked away in a small shopping plaza (next to a stellar ice cream shop as well, "Scoops") is a small, authentic pizzeria. My girlfriend is a local native and swears by Troy's. . .so instead of going to a typical chain pizza place, we drove over and ordered take-out. We ordered an 18" pizza half tomato half pepperoni and added ricotta cheese. The pizza came out in no time at all and was delicious when we got it home. I usually judge pizza based on three simple categories: 1) Final Product; 2) Ingredients; and 3) Flavor. Troy's received a 10/10 for Final Product, no areas of concern there (it was not soggy, no red sauce on the crust, still hot). Troy's also received a 10/10 for Ingredients (the cheese was plentiful, the pepperoni was thick, and the tomatoes had no middle pits). Troy's also received a 10/10 for Flavor (you can always tell if a good pizza place skimps on their ingredients or not based on how the dough tastes, and Troy's dough was delicious, as well as the other ingredients used). Keep in mind, things happen.This is a small-town business with their own process, not a chain restaurant with corporate training. Don't let one bad experience on a busy night for this business deter you from trying it again (that would be a shame). If something wasn't right with your order, say something. We ordered a pizza for take out since delivery was a bit steep. Went in & was "greeted" (scowled at) by an older guy who said it'll be a few more minutes. When the pie was ready, it was handed to me with a "here ya go". Then got a "look" when I didn't put a tip into the jar. We've ordered delivery from them for a good number of years with no issues. Now we get treated like something they scraped off their shoe when we go in for a pick up order. Very telling about what they really think of their customers. read more

We get pizza from Troy's often. We have been since before it was Troy's. I didn't notice much difference after they changed over, so that's good. We've never had a bad experience with the food or service. The pizzas are big and yummy. The crust is always cooked perfectly. I like to get the garlic butter for an extra 50¢ to dip my crust in to. Te garlic knots are good. Not the best I've ever had and I think they could use more sauce, but I like them anyway. We'll certainly continue to order pizza from Troy's. read more

As part of a fundraiser for the Space Coast Jr/Sr High School's Marching Vipers we decided to have food from Troy's delivered to the house, and help out the school's marching band along with it. My experience was a bit mixed tonight. One the one hand the service on the phone was friendly, the delivery was fast, and the food showed up piping hot. On the other, the food for the most part was just okay. The cheese pizza was huge, definitely big enough for plenty of leftovers. My wife's calzone was stuffed with cheese and I do mean *stuffed*. So, if you're a mozzarella lover, this is your kinda calzone. I had their spinach roll and was pleasantly surprised to get two (of which one was more than enough for me.) It was interesting to note that the calzone was so overly stuffed with cheese that the added ingredients she requested (mushrooms and onions) were a bit lacking. While my roll was equally prepared with plenty of cheese and spinach (good too.) Next time we might just stop in for dinner and get a feel for their place. I'm looking forward to that... read more
