When Bob came to our house for my son's first lesson he was kind and knowledgeable, letting us know what to expect. My son had a great experience and at the end Bob spoke with us and gave us things to work on with him. All three lessons were amazing, he even gave us tips and tricks for the test and suggested which DMV to go to. Our son passed with flying colors and has a great driving record (he has been driving for 3 years). I am writing this a few years later because we moved away from Irvine and had to find another company for our daughter. Her experience was not as good and we did not feel that she was ready to be driving on her own even after that company signed off on it. I immediately called Varsity and they found her a time to work with Bob and we drove down to Irvine for it. In just two hours he taught her so much, he went through everything and corrected her previous instruction. She is a much more confident and safer driver because of him. Frustrated, we began asking around and we were referred to Sherry by one of my daughter's friends who also had a great experience with OC Driving Academy. Seeing that Sherry is the owner, I felt confident in having her as my daughter's driving instructor. She is communicative, punctual, and was very patient with my daughter as she was learning how to drive. Not only did Sherry help with my daughter's driving skills, but she also helped me (as a parent) be as prepared as possible for her driving test. Sherry made sure we knew to bring our registration, proof of insurance, etc. to the DMV. She was super knowledgeable and resourceful about what we could expect for my daughter's driving test, and thanks to her, my daughter passed her exam on the first try. I would recommend Sherry to anyone parent who is looking for a well-qualified driving instructor for their teen.

As the father to a car-crazy teenager, when it came time for my son to begin his behind-the-wheel training, TRTS was the only solution we considered. Each two-hour lesson with Steven Unland and Jim Sewell was thorough and my son enjoyed conversing with Steven and Jim as he drove. At the end of each lesson, I was given a session review sheet containing the things they covered during the driving lesson and feedback for any areas that my son needed to work on before the next lesson. I suggest reaching out via text message before paying to make sure he has the availability you're looking for. Lance is very organized and it has an excellent scheduling system. You will get reminders through text and he will always be on time for lessons or your DMV appointment. He respects you, your money, and your time. He is flexible as long as you communicate with time. 1 hour behind the wheel test prep: He will give you the DMV examiner experience, meaning he will be VERY strict and COLD BLOODED for real, (I even told him that lol) If you have ever been at the DMV you can tell how sad and mean this people are. Well, Lance will show you how to control your nerves and focus on the importance of driving safely and listening actively. So don't take it personally, for the ones that said he was mean, I would say he's very straightforward, he wants you to follow the rules and you have to go out of your comfort zone and trust his teaching method. He gave me feedback after the lesson, it was mostly learning how to control my nervousness and don't anticipate the examiner's instructions. Other than that he said my driving was fine. :) DMV test day package: He picked me up on time and let me drive to the DMV, again, her reminded me about actively listening to the instructions and the importance of understanding the psychology of the test to pass. Lance being this strict helped me to be more calm because when the examiner approached us, I was prepared to not let the examiner's cold-blooded unemotional detached attitude affect me. Our instructor, Jordan, did not provide much actual detail instructions and instead had my teen drive him to a food location so he could get a drink in one of our PAID lessons. A friend of ours reported a similar experience where their lesson included a fast food stop. For a paid driving lesson, this felt unprofessional and a poor use of time. Communication and scheduling were also very frustrating. Responses were slow and most times booking lessons were unorganized. Example: The Instructor will either show up 1 hour early or even late and not finishing our actual hours. Another main concern was safety. Only one of the vehicles we saw had instructor-side brakes and pedals. The other cars (including their Tesla and other vehicles) did not appear to have these added safety features. We specifically requested a car with instructor controls for our teen, but that request was not honored. Overall, the experience did not meet expectations, especially considering the importance of proper instruction and SAFETY for new drivers. ***In response to the owner's comment below: I am not seeking a refund or any form of compensation, nor did I mention that in my original review. My intention is simply to share my experience and perspective to help inform others who may be considering this driving school. This is, after all, a platform for HONEST FEEDBACK.
