We stayed here 12/5-12/7 with my son's hockey team, and after six years of travel hockey and countless hotel nights, this was truly one of the best experiences we've had. The hotel is clean, welcoming, and has great spaces for families to gather. The rooms are on the smaller side for a family of four, but they're thoughtfully designed and very functional. What really sets this place apart is the staff. Every team member we met was warm, genuine, and clearly committed to making guests feel taken care of. They handled our large group of energetic hockey players with incredible patience and professionalism--encouraging them to have fun, but also kindly guiding them to be respectful of other guests. Not once did anyone make us feel like a burden. A+ hospitality. We're already looking forward to staying here again. read more

Clean rooms and public spaces, cute design. Friendly staff. But don't count on the EV chargers to be working. If they are working, you may have to go to the lobby to ask them to power them on before you can plug-in. Even then, they were only working about half of the time that I was there. read more

Four stars for what it is. I think it would be unfair to rate this hotel Against one of the Hilton higher end properties. This is a two or three star hotel on the rating scale. With that being said in that category this is definitely a four or five star hotel. It appeals to the younger crowd for sure. I think most older people are not the demographic they are looking for. The room was very clean and the decor was great for young hip and modern. The TV is massive! Again I think the younger crowd Is who they're looking for. If you're looking for an economy priced hotel than this would be a great option. They take pets! So huge score for that. They have toiletries. The toiletries are save the earth style. Which means they have a communal system that you get toiletries from. Shampoo, conditioner, body soap, body lotion. Every room as much as you want! My only gripe are the pillows! A king size bed should have more than three pillows. They give you one king size and two small standard size. read more

I'm writing this review from the lobby of this hotel, having just finished my perfectly average continental breakfast. It was FINE. The eggs tasted like nothing, as usual, but there were a wide array of toppings, including shredded cheese and hot sauce, which makes this the continental breakfast of champions, tbh. The sausage links looked like charred, severed fingers, but that is normal for these spreads. There was plenty of good coffee, and the breakfast attendant was really pleasant. A+ (graded on a steep curve, obvi) On to the room: it was nice. Really big (I ended up with an accessible room), and very clean. Once I figured out how to turn the AC on (hint: it's controlled via a wall panel), I was really comfortable...until it was time for bed. I went to turn the lights off, only to discover the outside shining in like there was a spaceship hovering above the building, waiting to beam us all up. The source of light was a ground lamp directly below my first-floor window. I swear to god it shone so brightly it could surely be seen from space, and it made my room impossible to darken to the pitch black I require for sleeping. By this time it was 11:30 PM, and all my crap was strewn about. I was in no mood to switch rooms (but in retrospect I wish I had), so I closed the blinds as well as I could, and used whatever available small appliances to place on the sill to help the edges be more flush with the sides of the window. But it was no use--light shone in around the edges of the blinds all night. I think I maybe slept for 2-3 hours tops. The bedding was weird too...it created this zone of humidity around my body, even though my room was super cold (thanks to my fiddling with the AC). So, in addition to lying awake all night, I was also very sweaty. All said and done: would I stay here again? Sure. It's a nice hotel and a good value. I would just insist on being nowhere near one of those insane lights. read more

WOW! We were excited about staying in a new place on our annual trip. The lobby literally looks like a child's play area! Check-in was a bit disjointed. Didn't feel welcome or appreciated. Just "slam bam, need your ID and cc. Here's your room cards." Our room is spacious but odd. Very sparse and uninviting. No microwave. Only one chair. Thumbs down. But the worst is that Direct TV and Fox are having a dispute and we are unable to watch our home team the Astros in the second game of the World Series. Seriously? Absolutely unacceptable. We worked our evening around this. And the front desk was clueless. So, yes I'll be very vocal about this and although we generally stay at Hilton properties we are seriously rethinking this. read more

I like the idea of this hotel, it's very trendy and well designed. However customer service leaves a lot to be desired. Each time I approached the front desk it took quite a while before someone would acknowledge me. They seemed almost annoyed to be interrupted, needless to say it was not welcoming. My husband had arrived a few hours before me and had to waif 10 minutes until someone showed up at the front desk to check him in. Upon leaving for dinner my husband and I stopped by the front desk to inform them of a sticky spill we discovered on the floor in our room (gross). We were told "you're good" and that they would take care of it. Upon on our arrival back to the room we discovered the spill was still there. Very disappointed, unless they make some staff changes or a conscious effort to be more hospital I would NOT recommend. read more

Very very modern and well put together, both lobby and room. Me and my partner stayed 12/9-12/12 and had absolutely no problems. Perfect location with lots of restaurant options and 10 minutes from downtown. The lady who checked us in looked a bit unhappy to be there (understandable) but the other staff members we saw throughout the stay were very greeting. Room was a bit small (did not include: microwave or safe) Loved that it included a hideaway rolling table seeing as there was no table space anywhere else. Would definitely stay again. read more

I will freely admit it - I am a hotel snob. Therefore, it does not pain me to give this hotel only two stars. I had the misfortune to make a perilous drive to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I braved the blowing winds, below zero temperatures, and countless sightings of cars in ditches, all the while silently cursing the abysmal road conditions that are apparently not at the top of DOT's to do list. I finally reached the hotel, and upon walking to the entrance, promptly went into an uncontrollable slide, which, under better situations, and happening to someone else, would have been amusing, but I really needed to keep my hips unbroken. People! It's called sand. Use it. I finally made my way to the front desk, after walking through puddles of melted snow that just screamed lawsuit. I was greeted at the front desk by a male with a manbun, that instantly made me want to search for a pair of scissors. He asked me what brought me to town, and I wanted to reply, "A vehicle", but knew this would be humorless to him. I must admit, my room was clean and comfortable, even if the heating unit was a bit loud. Wait... I mispronounced 'a LOT'. Bed was comfortable, the room set up kind of reminded me of a Japanese hotel room - tiny, utilizing all spaces. NO FRILLS, as in no coffee maker, no ice machine, no carpet in the room, so if your shoes are wet, and you walk around, the floor has puddles. The shower is like one of those sample ones you see in Menards, where you get in and it's a tiny, see through closet. The toilet paper rolls were under this stainless steel bar. Why? Did the hotel fear people using too much toilet paper? Was it to ban possible toilet paper theft? No bar or restaurant, but snacks and alcohol were available for an inflated price, if one wished to use their kidney as collateral. I went out to dinner. When I returned, there were no parking spaces, the parking lot looked like a five year old with a plastic shovel had tried to clear the area. The parking spaces at this hotel are woefully lacking. I saw some douchebag had taken at least five parking spaces by parking his truck and trailer vertically, which is not the fault of the hotel, I just thought I'd throw that in. I finally ended up making my own parking space - midway onto the snow covered sidewalk, even while I was thinking I was coming perilously close to becoming the aforementioned douchebag. Another person promptly copied me, not even thanking me for starting a trend. The humanity! The hotel lobby was constantly taken over by families sitting and drinking, while their unsupervised children raced throughout the space. Trash, empty bottles, books and toys littered the area. And there were STILL wet lawsuity areas that never got mopped, even though the front desk staff was not busy. Breakfast was ridiculous. Food ran out while two front desk people talked to one another. A sulky kitchen person brought out some sausages and eggs. Tables that had been abandoned were full of trash, again, there were at least three people behind the desk, doing nothing. When I left at 7:20 a.m., the last thing my eyeballs saw in the hotel lobby were - tables of discarded paper products, empty food bins, water puddles, overflowing trash bins, hotel workers talking behind the desk. Outside was not any prettier - sidewalks not cleared or sanded, parking lot was not plowed, or, if it ever was, I'm suspecting that five year old again... I didn't want to look all stalkery and take pictures of the mess. Besides, my iPhone is low on storage. read more

The staff at this hotel was awesome. Which makes me sad to have to leave 2 stars. They were constantly cleaning, checking in with us, and overall being so helpful. The decor is modern and nice. The problem was our room walls..paper thin. I could hear the person in the room we shared a wall with coughing, throwing up at 2am and cell phone vibrating over and over again. The hallways were super cold like you were outside which makes me think they see little to NO insulation. If you are an ear plug wearing sleeper I'm sure you would be fine staying here. I'm not the target demographic for this hotel. I booked a room here because my coworker did. I've never stayed at a Tru before. The Hilton website says this is a more economical version of the Hilton brand. In my words: bare bones and cheap. For a business traveler it leaves a lot to be desired. There is a chair with a small top that rotates, and your laptop falls when you get up. No regular desk. The air conditioner or heat source doesn't stop blowing air even if you turn it off. There is no top sheet on the bed. It's a stand alone shower with shampoo, etc. attaches to the tile, but no shelf for a female to put a razor, shaving cream, face wash-you have to put it on the floor of the shower or on the foot rest. The bed frame is wood, and if you get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, you will hit your leg on the frame, other hotels have them padded. There are metal covers for over the toilet paper. I hope they disinfect the metal flaps and replace the toilet paper after every stay. Because the amount of feces and blood that can accumulate on those things is gross. read more

This was the worst hotel experience i've ever had!! The first red flag was that there was dust bunnies all over the headboards, a fecal matter stain on the bathroom wall, and a 6 legged insect crawling when we first walked in. I decided to go for a swim and when i put my hand on the railing it started to slide out of the hole it was originally in. Also the pool water tasted like saltwater almost like the ocean!I hate to complain but i do not recommend (if you have the option) to stay on the bottom floor! You can hear many children stomping on the floor. And people from the outside can see you on the inside the blinds were very transparent. It was very irritating. The only good think about this hotel was the soaps and the modern design of the lobby. We had left at 4 am because we could stand the queasy feeling of this hotel. Please take this review into account before selecting this hotel. :) read more

Nice new hotel but our room shower door so hard to open went to front lobby. Maintenance said yes that room is always that way. Well if people can't open it, FIX IT! He said elderly couple couldn't open it either. Light outside hitting window our room was like twilight all night. I told front desk and she wrote it down, but also said other people have complained about that too. read more

Disappointed in this hotel and have never even stayed here. I am getting married in November of 2019 and as this hotel is less than 2 miles from the venue, I thought the hotel would be a great place to get a room block. Well, after coming into this hotel 2x personally and not ever getting a call or email from the sales person I was assured at the front desk would contact me, I have given up. I set up room blocks at 2 other hotels in town. How hard is it to shove business and money towards this hotels direction. Apparently it's very hard and I have no more patience for it. read more

I'm giving it one star because I can't give it Zero. I was booked there from 3/12-3/15. I was coming for the Division 3 NCAA wrestling Championships. At approx 4pm on the 12th we found out that the NCAA had cancelled All winter sports championships. We were in the security line at Newark Airport. We obviously got out of line and returned home. I called the hotel and spoke to Jasper and was informed I would be charged one night stay because I didn't cancel outside of 24 hours! Does Hilton not know or care that in these times there are extenuating circumstances and that perhaps their cancellation policy should reflect those. The airline refunded our flight costs and the rental car company also did. I wouldn't book another stay at a Hilton if it was the only hotel in town. It's total BS. read more

I wanted to love it. As a Hilton member, I've been in a lot of different Hiltons. This was my first Tru experience. I booked this particular hotel because they had charging for my electric car. This hotel brand is trying to appeal to the under 40 set. Clean lines, bright colors, open spaces and a mix of private & communal seating with lots of places to "plug in". The room was unfussy. A simple and uncluttered space (quite refreshing). A lot of thought was given to HOW one uses the room. Lots of power outlets, hotel phone and lighting on the wall/ceiling (not taking up valuable table space), no coffee pot (lobby has 24hr coffee), a small shelf in the shower (to shave your legs), plenty of hooks in the room and bathroom (to hang towels, bags, jackets, toiletries case), materials that are durable (no grout lines for mildew), space under the front of the bed for suitcases storage, an open slatted table above the AC unit to dry swim trunks, small fridge for bottled water or medication, great bath products (with conditioner!), a night table on BOTH sides of the bed, 'blackout' shades and my favorite feature...a table on 4 caster wheels to use anywhere in the room! The location is ideal. Lots of shopping and food in walking distance and in a safe/new area of town. However, not up to the cleaning standards of the Hilton brand. There is no carpeting in the rooms which I like (floor is cold, bring socks or slippers). This means there is no breading ground for bacteria, moisture absorption creating mildew/musty odors or nasty staining to look at. This IS a good thing. Much easier to keep clean and no vacuum noise to hear on the mornings you want to sleep in. So it puzzles me that it was the one area throughout my room that was overlooked. There were pretzel crumbs, Frito crumbs and candy crumbs around my bed and in the bathroom. Using a broom or Swiffer is not difficult, or time consuming, so why was that not done? All corners of the room were dirty. This hotel has only been open 1 year, so this does not bode well for the future. A clean room is the PRIMARY expectation for every hotel guest. Oh, and did I mention the bed was VERY uncomfortable and had a slope to it. I'm disappointed. read more

Update: my daughter accidently left her Gizmo watch at the hotel. My husband and I both reached out to try to confirm it being there. No one would return our calls or emails. Very crappy. We stayed here one night. The hotel itself was very clean and well kept. It's nicely updated and has bright, and colorful decor. The rooms were spacious and clean. The pool was much smaller than expected, so that was not ideal but it was fine. When we reserved our rooms online on Hilton honors we noted the need to have ajoining rooms. We have a large family and travel with all of the kids can be tricky and stressful. While we understood the request was not guaranteed I also called before check in to ask about this option. I was told that our request was noted on our reservation and would be honored with no problem. It was not. The gentleman who checked us in made sure our rooms were next to each other but sadly they did not honor what we were told when we called. We understood the circumstance but it did make our stay more stressful. Additionally there was a group of children not well supervised both in the pool as well as running up and down the halls. I felt the staff handled the situation best they could have, I suppose. The breakfast was great and the staff did a great job making sure there was enough food and regularly asking if anything was needed. We would stay again. read more

Our large multigenerational group recently traveled from California for a college graduation in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. The Mt. Vernon options were fully booked so we reserved four rooms for four nights at the Tru by Hilton in Cedar Rapids. The staff was helpful and friendly. The rooms were refreshingly simple and clean and comfortable. The indoor pool was nice for the young ones. We were worried about having a lot of downtime at the hotel - between graduation events - so we had researched just about everything there was to do in the area. We ended up doing none of those things because we all had so much fun gathering in the Tru's large, bright and cheery lobby where there was a pool table, television screens, fun seating, snacks and drinks for purchase and board games. Plenty of space for everyone. I hope that Hilton and other hotel chains expand upon this particular hotel model. It is just great for families that travel together. read more
