As a cancer cancer patient who has recently gone through treatment I was surprised when I went into the gym and there were no ways of cleaning the machines. So I thought maybe they haven't refilled it and they could help me at the front desk. When I arrived at the desk to ask the gentleman about this, he was kind of rude telling me they dont have anything. I told him that I was a cancer patient and I would like to have clean equipment he looks at me as if he didn't care. I saw that there were two sanitizers sitting at the front desk. I asked him where the bathroom was so that I could get some paper towels. When I went back to the desk to ask him if it was possible. I could borrow one of the 2 sanitizers at the desk he told me no. That I could squirt it into my paper towels. So I decided that I would look up the rules for hotels and gyms. In the Tru-Hotel Brand Standards - North America found only under section 1302.05 G. Hygienic Wipes starts "The hotel must maintain Brand-approved hygienic wet wipes for guest use. Hygienic Wipes do not replace daily disinfecting during the cleaning process. Consult equipment owner's manual for recommended cleaning solutions." I have pictures proving that the fitness center is not clean, as well as they do not have wipes. After my complaint to corporate last night the fitness center now has Wipes. They didn't put in new towels until this morning. We have been here for 3 days and 2 nights. The front desk staff has been rude other then one tall gentleman. I found out from Staffers that most of them don't wear a name tags because people don't want others to know their names. (Hints they can be rude and you don't know who they are to report.) After talking with a few of the housekeepers I see why the rooms aren't clean. They are over worked some having a floor to themselves and they aren't being paid a fair wage. Though I believe they should have someone to check rooms after to make sure they are clean enough for guest. My room wasn't very clean, even after asking the front desk to send housekeeping to my room. I had to find the woman that worked my floor and tell her myself. I told her specific things to clean and still those were barely done. Im just upset with myself after the first night not packing up and moving to another hotel. The women that served breakfast are lovely. They were kind and very helpful. I would say the others that gave me information about be understaffing and underpaid were also very nice. The others at the front desk shouldn't be in hospitality if they can't be hospitable. Also I was given a call after speaking with corporate I was contacted by the hotel. The gentleman on the phone said that they would be calling me the next day about the situation. Its been 7 days and still no contact. I will be contacting corporate again and reporting this review on every site that I can. DO NOT STAY HERE! THEY LIE! THEY ARE RUDE! THEY DONT CARE ABOUT YOUR HEALTH OR SAFETY! read more

Stayed at Tru by Hilton and overall had a good experience. The hotel was very clean, modern, and well maintained. The only downside was a strange chemical smell in the room, which was noticeable at first. Other than that, everything was comfortable, and the breakfast spread was excellent with plenty of options. Fantastic option for a comfortable rest on an I-95 long haul. Quite a few hotel chains have packed their locations into this area on Gateway Blvd, not far from the interstate. After checking the reviews, I got the sense that many of the others in the vicinity - even more upscale labels - were dated. I cannot speak on those others obviously, but knew it was a good sign when all the reviews for Tru by Hilton were about "piddlin' stuff" and not cleanliness or pests. Indeed, the property was immaculate. It's nestled quietly at the back of this cluster of hotels. The desk agent was friendly and efficient. The room was clean and had all the basic essentials. A hot breakfast is served, although I got on the road before the 6am start time. I would 100% stay here again for a basic stay if passing through or in Rocky Mount for a short period. read more

This is probably the nicest hotel that I have ever stayed in and all of my 70 years. The reason for this is the incredible staff, including Marion, the general manager, as well as her morning breakfast staff of Ann and Jennie. They are all just so nice and accommodating and I look forward to coming here each week, as I have done for the last four weeks I stay three nights each week. This is my first stay at a Tru by Hilton hotel. Being one of Hilton's brand, I can earn points through the Hilton Honors program, and the hotel offers complimentary breakfast. While Tru's room layout is similar to those of the Hampton Inns I had stayed at, what sets it apart is the decor. It screams "post modern" from its architecture, the room's table lamps and standing lamps - with adjustable brightness setting - outdoor lounge area, and indoor and breakfast areas. Instead of bar soaps for the bathrooms, there are dispensers for shampoo, conditioner, lotion, body and hand soaps. The shower stall has a step to place my feet when bending down to wash them. Two choices of blinds are provided for either opaque or translucent covering of windows. There is an Elkay water dispenser next to a gym on the first floor, and an outdoor lounging area. But there are few quibbles. In my double queen room, one of the queen beds has a narrow separation distance from the air-conditioner, causing my leg to hit the corner of the bed every time I went to adjust the blinds. The bed pillows were the same level of a bit too thin, so I used two pillows to sleep and it worked out great. The room does not have a microwave oven. None of the waste baskets - one in the room and the other in the bathroom - are lined with bin bags. (Hampton Inn lined the waste baskets in their rooms with bin bags.) I didn't like that the gym is located right by the elevator. (I do not want to watch people work out after a long day of travel.) The breakfast was decent enough if you like pancakes. If not, there are oats, different brands of cereals, bagels, sausage patties, scrambled eggs. Not as much of assortments as a Hampton Inn. Overall, service was good. Despite many big-screen TVs turned on, the breakfast environment was reasonably quiet. The hotel are many side entrances - I counted at least three - for ease of access. However, if your room windows face the rear of the hotel, you won't be able to see your car in the parking lot. If I were to return, I'd probably try out the Hampton Inn nearby before deciding to come back here. read more

The Tru by Hilton in Rocky Mount NC , was an excellent place to stay. I stayed there last night. 2 adults and cat & dog. The room had 2 queens that were very comfortable. 2 huge windows with true blackout shades. Easy to use thermostat. Nice tile in bathroom and pretty vinyl plank floor in room. The entire hotel was spotless and staff were super friendly. Buffet breakfast had everything from pancakes, oatmeal, bagels, fruit, eggs and more. read more

During a very stressful and unexpected situation, Stacey went above and beyond to ensure my family felt safe, comfortable, and supported. While traveling from Florida to Virginia, I had to take my boyfriend to the ER at Nash General Hospital across the street. It was a frightening time, but Stacey's calm, courteous, and genuinely helpful demeanor made all the difference. She made sure we had everything we needed and checked in to see how we were doing--something she certainly didn't have to do, but did with true compassion. Stacey was a blessing during a difficult moment, and I'm incredibly grateful for her presence. She reminded me that there are still truly good people in this world. There is nothing worse than traveling all day and getting to a dirty hotel. Checked in at 10pm after indicating I would be here at 3pm. There is hair and lent in the sheets. The gentleman was nice enough to bring new sheets because the they were fully booked and the cleaning staff left all ready. Sooo I had to change the Dern sheets myself! Changed two beds at 10:30pm at now because I officially work for Hilton!! Then I go to take a shower the freaking shower is covered in someone else's hair!! I'm disgusted!! Two nights in the dirty hotel but thank God for lysol! There was dust in the bed frames. I guess I should have checked in and cleaned this myself!! Time to upgrade to Mariott! This was my first time staying at a Tru hotel it was very clean. The staff was Soo nice and friendly, they were extremely helpful. When I first arrived I noticed they didn't clean out the refrigerator, I went and spoke to the staff and he came right in and emptied it, while bringing additional towels. I liked that the pet fee wasn't as high as others and they had a great deal of dog bags with hand sanitizer. There was a creepy man lurking in the hallways, breakfast area, and near the elevator and when we made the staff aware, they informed that they would check the cameras and keep an eye out for the man. That says a lot to me, because they care about the safety and well-being of their customers. read more

I always like the new properties. This hotel is new, clean, staff is friendly. It's a very minimalist accommodation, has everything you need. From the common space with a pool table computer areas 24 hour concessions. They offer wine, but do not have bottle openers. That's probably the only negative thing I have to say lol. I just moved from Florida to Virginia so I will be making this trek time and again with my dog. The pet fee is only $50. Checked in for a brief stay, literally just to sleep for 8 hours as we are traveling to a different destination. The floor in our room was absolutely disgusting. After not even 10 minutes of walking on the floor, my feet were covered in dirt and my husbands socks were filthy. I did alert the employee at the front desk so he could put the info on our reservation but did tell him up front I didn't want to be moved to a different room as our kids were already settled into bed. And now we just found a cockroach... so we went back down and said yes we will take a new room. Put in a different room on a different floor and the room was just as filthy. We left to go to another hotel for the night. Follow up to my review after calling the general manager "Marilyn" this morning to ensure we were not going to be charged for the filth. She stated since we entered the room and "used" it and she now had to clean the room then we needed to be charged. What a joke she and this hotel are. She tried to tell me the room was clean when we got there. She finally agreed to refund the charges after I told her I would contact corporate and file a complaint with the credit card company regarding the charges. The room was dusty and the windows seemed like they haven't been cleaned in ages . I couldn't believe the amount of dust in the room. I was there for one night so I ignored that. But it seems the room wasn't clean at all. Crumbs in the corner where the lamp is and that is where it was the dirtiest . The stuff was kind of rude . When we wanted to check out no one was even at the front desk and had to wait for several minutes until I got someone to help me. There are other hotels right next to it maybe try one of those instead. read more

EASILY Booked the room using points and cash via website. Arrived at the location approximately 2:30 am, check in was smooth! The front desk rep informed that breakfast is from 6 to 10 but try to arrive no later than 9:45 am. As we were downstairs at 9:30 the staff was ADAMANT and stressed breakfast is over at 9!!!! We shared what was told to us upon check in. At some point they even stood behind us as if they were going to reach and block us from the food. LUCKILY OTHER FAMILIES CHIMED IN and stated they were told 10 am too. I felt like I was being chastised and rescued by the other families. YET, the trainer Mr. Derwin apologized to us and kept asking questions to verify who checked us in. I HAD TO STATE SEVERAL TIMES WE ARE NOT THE ONLY ONES WHO WERE TOLD 10 AM!!!!! The only reason I'm giving this hotel 2 stars is because the poor receptionist was working alone on a pre Thanksgiving week when lots of people were traveling. And also for the decent lobby area. We had a booking on 11/18, we got there @ 9:45. The lobby area was nice and bright, patrons were sitting on their laptops, talking, eating at the tables & kids were playing games, families playing billiards. Seemed like a nice, modern hotel. There was one family checking in before us. I had tried to do electronic check in from the app, but I couldn't get a key and was advised to go to the desk. When we got to the desk, the room I chose wasn't available and I was given another room. The poor girl at the reception was juggling phone calls from hotel guests & people incoming and people checking in, seemed to be an awful lot for one person. By the time we got our keys, there was a line behind us. We got up to our room on the third floor, a young couple with kids was abruptly leaving as we were turning the corner, we opened our room door to find it, not cleaned, towels on bathroom floor, bed unmade, trash everywhere & $5 bill on table. We called downstairs and asked for another room, my partner went down, I stayed with our luggage near the elevator & waited. Over a 1/2 hour later I got a call to bring luggage down we were leaving, house keeping wouldn't be coming for 2-3 hours & no other room was available. Turned out the couple we had walked past had the same issue. While we waited for a refund, ten more people came in & left. The young lady handled things well, it wasn't her fault that housekeeping didn't do their job. I won't book another Tru by Hilton again read more

Spire Elite member here and this was my first time staying here. I guess it's pretty new ( March 21 ) the rooms are pretty nice for sure and there's good parking available. Here's we're it went south & why I didn't give any more stars. The room I was in ( 318 ) had zero towels , zero hand soap in the dispensers , zero soap in the shower ( it did have some shampoo ) half a roll of TP. So I went down and asked the girl @ the front desk about why my room was looked over and I was given this spill about Covid shortages I'm like ok miss that's bs because the room has zero soap and towels so what's the teal deal here. All she could say is well I guess go find a local store and but they stuff u need . I was flabbergasted and for a new hotel this should never ever happen Ever. I'm so disappointed in this place & I might call spire elite services and let them know about my experience. We arrived late and the outside was well lit. Easy checkin using the Hilton Honors app. The room was small but had everything we needed and was very clean. The only negative was that the mattress was hard, but I'm sure some folks prefer that. We enjoyed the free breakfast in the morning which included cereals, pancakes, bagels, sausage, eggs, juices, and coffee. The breakfast area was well taken care of by two ladies who did a wonderful job of helping us figure out the pancake maker, keeping the food area clean and stocked, and tables wiped. There was a gym, but we didn't have a chance to use it. Would highly recommend if you're in the area. read more

I traveled to NC in January '23. One word- Overpriced. The rooms are small. I asked to have housekeeping come clean the room but they never came. They had an out of order sign on the gym but the equipment looked just fine. I had to go to the hotel next door to work out. Definitely not worth the money. read more

Efficiently check in ! Hotel didn't smell like perfumes and febreze scents and weird smells with chemicals in them. It had a normal hotel clean smell to it which is always a bonus in my book... those weird perfume scents make me nauseous. We checked in at 10 pm after a day of driving. Some staff members and the front desk worker were playing pool in the lobby while watching a basketball game. That didn't bother me cause we were helped right away and no other customers were in the lobby, I'm sure it was a slow night why should they be bored. But we get to the room and it has a musty smell. There was hair all over the bathroom and the floor in the room was sticky. We switched rooms, the second room was definitely cleaner and didn't smell but it could have been better for sure. The hotel is beautiful, the room was clean and soap was my favorite in any hotel ever! The only problem i have was with the booking, my wife booked the room while i was driving and was told she paid and when i arrived they said I had to pay AND the price was more that what i had on my wife's receipt. It also seemed like the two young men behind the desk were training. Nothing felt smooth from checking in to buying a bottle of water from the same front desk. But the deduction of one star is only for the charges and credit card mix ups, not the young men. read more

Stayed here twice. Both times, the rooms were dirty. Sheets appear to not have been changed. Dirty washcloth on the floor in the bathroom. Sink had crusty stuff on it. Toilet was not cleaned around the hinges and floors. Shower glass doors were barely wiped. Fortunately, they have Clorox wipes readily available. Room thermostat broken. Breakfast options are also not great. The staff is nice, but I will not be staying here again. read more

This hotel got one star because I can't do zero stars. Do not stay here! My family are Diamond members because we have to stay at Hilton family hotels for work a lot. On the return of our cross country Thanksgiving trip, I convinced my husband to try Tru rather than Homewood Suites or Doubletree where we normally stay. When we arrived at 8:55 p.m. the person at the front desk ignored us for five minutes while doing something on his computer. Not even a "Hello, I'll be right with you." No one else was being helped/waiting, just two tired adults and our very sleepy 10 year old. We came up to the room and unloaded our things and my husband went into the bathroom, when he came out, he prefaced his request for me to follow him into the bathroom with, "we're not changing rooms, we need to sleep." Since my son was already in bed, I didn't argue, but once we got in the room he pointed out that someone had left a nightgown hanging on the hook -- not us -- so it had been missed by the cleaning staff. I wanted to pack up and leave immediately, but my hubby said we were all too tired so I am begrudgingly staying but posting this review since no one should have to deal with this. read more

Hotel is fairly new, but it was clean and comfortable. The front desk associate was accommodating, friendly, welcoming and quickly got us checked in. They have a pool table and fitness center but due to covid the outdoor pool is closed. The lobby was modern and spacious with lots of comfortable seating and they offered for purchase snacks. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate is available 24/7 and they do offer a limited breakfast in the morning. There are also many dining options and other things to do close by. The price was well worth it, and we will definitely be staying again. read more

Would give 0 stars if I could!! Untrained, unprofessional, ignorant staff! Refused us a room after we already paid! Arrived at 6:30pm after driving 7hrs from Florida with 2 tired kids. Jennifer at front desk wouldn't honor our Hotels.com PAID booking for $110 and demanded we pay another $87 for "fees". Excuse me but $200 for a room at Tru on a Wednesday night? I don't think so. Our booking was supposed to be already completely paid. We showed her our receipt from Hotels.com and she said we "might have paid them $110, but you haven't paid me anything. You need to give me $87 or you are NOT getting a room from me." She's sucking her teeth and getting attitude with us. We ask for a manager, she tells us there isn't one...OK, so we try to call Hotels in her presence because obviously there is some kind of issue. (I have booked through them for years and never had this happen before.) Then this lady says if you're not going to leave this property, I'm going to call the police! To which my husband responds, go ahead, please do, I'm a Police Officer from NJ and would live to see how that works out! Meanwhile, I'm over here ready to call the police on HER for theft of goods & services since we paid for a room & she's refusing to give it to us! Now there's this big scene being caused in the lobby in front of other patrons, making us feel like we've done something wrong, we're embarrassed, angry, tired. We just wanted our room. Finally, after over an hour of dealing with this nonsense, the wonderful man from Hotels.com (who she was also very nasty to, I might add) was able to refund our NON-REFUNDABLE room because this situation was so unprecedented. My family and I road trip quite often, maybe 2 or 3 times a year, and have stayed at Tru hotels many times. My kids like the bright colors & fun, upbeat lobbies, and I'm not going to lie, I'm a fan of the value. But based on this horrible experience, I can tell you WITHOUT A DOUBT that my family will never EVER stay another night at a Tru property again. Not one time did this woman pick up the phone to call a manager, or another location for guidance, not one attempt was made to make this situation right. And now I get an email that she will be receiving more empathy training? What does that even mean?? How about train her how to do her job correctly? read more

Do not, repeat do not - come to this place, if you want to sleep! Absolutely awful acoustics in the building, and the combination with no carpets is disastrous. There are crashing sounds all night and frightening loud banging sounds, some of them coming from the door knob area which is bizarre. Both my husband and I only slept a few hours with the age of a sleeping pill. Could not wait to get away from this hotel! read more

This complaint is upset being that Tru became my hotel of choice after my first stay and excellent service by Mohaganny. Since then I have chosen to stay her every month when I am in town for work spending a lot of money and even booking rooms for others here. This trip however was not the same. First I requested room service at 8:06 and was told it had to be before 8:00, so I took that with Grace and requested for the next day. The next day service was done, but only partially. There were no new towels placed and out trash was not taken out. Instead of complaining I simply requested service a days later- it was never done, so I requested service again. When I checked with housekeeping to see if we were in the list before I left I found that again we were not. I went down to inquire and was told that the housekeeping mgr had to be contacted. I asked to speak to him direct and was advised that the person in the front could only make a call. He advised at that time that service would not be performed as it was only to be done every three days. I questioned how when it was not completed correctly the first time and totally dismissed the second time. He refused to send housekeeping to my room. As a result, I canceled my stay to take my business elsewhere. Also, as a result unless this is addressed immediately and some serious accommodations are made I will not be returning to Tru in the future not will my other guests that I accommodate here on a monthly basis. read more
