Although my "asks" are simple, sometimes hotels fall short. Not here. While making my reservation I asked quite a few questions and whoever I spoke with was very patient and helpful. Upon driving onto the property, the place looked like it was on a very large piece of land...very spacious. When I checked in, Jean was very professional and nice. She gave me waters and cookies (why doesn't every place do this?) When I got to the room, the cats were super happy with the cleanliness of the room, the space, especially the large window they could sit in for the view of the trees in the back...they were not happy that the bed is on a platform and were not able to get underneath. But that made ME happy! Breakfast in the morning was plentiful. I had mini waffles that I made myself, I had some eggs and Canadian bacon. Like a real FULL breakfast. Not just one or the other... there were also juices, muffins, fruit! and bread choices from bagels to toast. And the coffee was decent. So many places just don't even get this right. First of all the common green area is very long great for walking pets or yourself. There are sidewalks all the way to end on either side of car and truck parking. There are covered and uncovered tables spaced out in the area, watch out for bird nests above. The restroom building has many toilets so no waiting during high traffic times. There is a visible maintenance person roaming the grounds. About 4 vending machines mix of drinks and snacks. Usually these rest areas in SC are no where this large for parking and green areas so I have rated based on this. The trash cans are not overflowing, no ant hills in the grass, well kept.

Only reason I didn't give it a five is the surrounding area. There is golfing and fishing and boating. Other than that, nothing. When we were there the weather was in the 40's and 50's. We aren't golfers or fishermen. The state park had nice hiking available but other than a day trip there, not much activity. If you're looking for something out of the way, quiet and relaxing then this is a nice spot. I'm sure with better weather there is more but this wasn't my experience. Glad I came though. Even though i only…read moreplanned on 2-3 hotel stays, one goal was to find the cheapest and grimiest trucker / biker hotel in the east. Sunset Inn Manning takes that honor. The people hanging out in the lounge were friendly and seemed cool... i think they worked there? They dont use computers here so checkin was a breeze. There werent very many vehicles in the lot but this place is a little out of the way considering that the previous exit off I95 had some better known hotels - but i bet they didn't have truck parking or cost less than $40 a night! When i walked into the hallway looking for my room there was this ridiculous smell and i couldn't figure out what it was. Inside the room it wasn't as pungent and it acutally seemed kind of clean. That is until i slept off the 10hrs i had just spent on my bike and was able to see and breath again. The bed sheets were white but had some yellow stains on them, as did some of the towels (not my stains). I hope it was just ultra strong bleach proof SC trucker sweat - no bigs, i sweat like a barbarian too. The carpet was a fun mix of colors and was oddly clumped together when it shouldn't be. There was a small fridge in to room but it was disconnected, along with everything else. I'm not sure if it's weird housekeeping staff or just SC custom. I didn't see any critters in here,but i'm sure they're around. The bathroom... that was strangely clean. Now, i could've spent a few more bucks and stayed somewhere a bit nicer but i really was looking for this. Most regular humans would give this place 1-2 stars. It is a solid 3-4 star spot for bad m-f'n road warriors though. Oh and the smell - turns out that non smoking rooms are strategically placed in halls full of smoking rooms.

In the main building, men's restrooms are located on the right while the women's restrooms are on the left. There are even large signs to help point to the right direction. Since the space is small, there are about 8 stalls in the women's restroom but only half the space was available while the other half was being cleaned. (The men's restroom was a similar set up but with 6 stalls and 2 urinals total, but only half available during cleaning times). The facilities actually smelled nice, the space was clean, stocked with toilet paper, and functioning toilets/faucets/hand dryers. One of the sinks was slightly clogged so the draining was a bit slow. Overall, it's a good place to go when nature calls. There is even a large open hilly space towards the back with plenty of picnic tables.
