We popped in for a chai tea and a pastry. The chai tasted like a cold coffee and when we took it back they assured us it was chai. They doctored it with sugar but it still ended up poured out on the road. The cinnamon rill was not much better it was dry and tasteless. It was very crowded and nice inside with a long wait. Not sure if we hit them on a bad day, if they don't make chai very often or what but we would not recommend. It was a nice atmosphete with nice seating options with a trendy crowd. Tru North Cafe is a delicious and charming breakfast spot in Livingston. I came here on Sunday morning and had a great experience from start to finish. They offer specials, a great menu (with hilarious descriptions!), baked goods and coffee. The special of the day was eggs Benedict with breakfast potatoes and they happily removed the meat for me. The Benedict was perfect from the ooze of the egg, the flavor and amount of hollandaise sauce. The potatoes were also perfect and I loved the potion size. Of note, the ketchup did not have high fructose corn syrup which I really appreciated and it tasted so much better! The man working at the front was SO friendly and kind and the chef even came to check on us to see how our meal was. Such amazing service! The ambiance is also 5 stars. Went in on a Wednesday morning. You grab a menu and order at the front. I got the avocado toast for $16 and a can of Coke. The entire time we were there the employees seemed bored. They were either eating their own food or playing on their phones. You have to bus your own table as well. Overall I wasn't impressed with the employees or the service. read more

New to the restaurant. When you walk in, it's nicely decorated and the taller chairs look very comfy--but only if there are more than 2 of you. I was less than impressed with the French toast special. I think I was given sour cream instead of butter. The syrup was ice cold which in turn made the French toast cold. My husband had eggs, sausage and potatoes with toast. He said it was good but would have preferred hash browns as he's a mix the eggs with the hash browns kind of guy. His Americano was delicious! When ordering at the counter, they might want to let you know that you need to get your own flatware, etc. I won't put this place on my list of places to return to. read more

Love Tru North but they are seriously short staffed. If you're in a hurry or have hungry kids, probably try someplace else. We eat here at least a couple of times a week when we're in Livingston and usually try to hit it at off times. Unfortunately, today was a disappointment in terms of wait time. The ambiance upon walking in got us first! So cozy! We were greeted by the friendliest staff that pointed out their daily special which we eagerly ordered. The most delicious huckleberry French toast, savory thick cut bacon cooked to the perfect crispness and an egg cooked to order (we chose scrambled). Husband ordered a cafe mocha and it was the best he's had (and he is pretty picky). We oohed and aahed through every bite. We chose a huge cinnamon roll to enjoy later. Looks like most of the art work is local, which I love AND what they can't make they buy local from Bakery's around them! Awesome! Food and coffee was wonderful. Unfortunately I ordered the special, which is my absolute favorite, "the Benny", (Eggs Benedict) but the cook who makes the special wasn't in so they couldn't make it. This was the only thing that kept me from a five star! Two things: Please don't advertise this special on the chalk board if you know the cooks not there and two: please give me my money back for "the Benny" and recharge me for the lox and bagel I ordered in its place. One of my favorite breakfast spots during my trip to Livingston, Montana. I had the breakfast burrito which included cheese, hash browns, sausage and egg. It was paired with a tomato pico de gallo and sour cream. The tortilla had a perfect crunch to it which I loved - I don't like when my tortilla is soggy. My friend had eggs benedict and she really liked the hollandaise sauce. The staff were so friendly and helpful. They directed us to go up to the counter to order our food as soon as we walked in and brought our food over as soon as it was ready. What to say first?!?! Just wow!! We happened here by a Romans 8:28 situation. My husband wanted to go a certain place but as it happened that place had relocated. God really worked this one out for our good. The food here is AMAZING! The HuckleberryBaby and The Fluffy Egg Sandwich were delicious and so unique ! How does one NOT love this place? Now I'll admit, I always prefer a mom'n'pop, non-chain, non-franchise, non-fast food restaurant over the corporate factory food that's become so common nowadays. So going in, Tru North had an edge in my opinion. And I was NOT disappointed! My fellow diners appreciated that Tru North has several Gluten Free options. Myself, I'm on a "Bring on the gluten" diet, so I had a "Southwest" burrito that was fantastic. The only thing negative I could say about it was it was more than I could finish; it was that big. The place is spotless, the service is to a very high standard, and they had a guy doing chair massages the day we went, so what's NOT to like. If I could relocate this cafe to my town, I'd be camped out in it all day. Tru North is a relaxed, no pretense kind of place with a warm, inviting atmosphere encouraging people to take time to enjoy conversation with friends, the coffee, and, from what I could glean from other customers, the good food. Although I did not try any food, I can attest to the excellent coffee. It is outstanding, and with my affinity for coffee shops, that I would say that surprises even me. This was a perfectly blended latte, just the right temperature and made me sad that I couldn't stay longer for another cup. The biggest drawback that I could tell, might be the shortage of seating during prime hours. That Tru North has that issue says something about how the locals view it, and during my short visit, the line of locals who pre-ordered and patiently waited was impressive. read more

If I could give Tru North 6 stars I would in a heartbeat. My boyfriend and I were looking for somewhere to grab a bite to eat and this was the perfect little cafe. Upon entry we heard Blue Velvet blaring on the radio, later we found out that a specialty drink called the blue velvet was ordered and upon ordering the song Blue Velvet had to be played. They have a drink titled purple rain which also has the same treatment. The owner was everything and more, they greeted us, took the time to explain, gave recommendations, and cracked the best jokes. My boyfriend got the meatloaf sandwich and said the meat was very juicy and made the simplicity of the other ingredients not matter, the meat was that good. I had the signature cloud coffee? It was delicious! The apple turnover pastry had the perfect balance between sweetness and cinnamon bites. The inside is excellent as well!
