We were directed here after a visit to the Yellowstone Beer Company West Yellowstone (a new favorite) as Karabatic brews some of the premium beers at their facility in Livingston. We were not disappointed! A cozy place in downtown Livingston with and great selection of fantastic Kraft beers and what looked like pretty standard bar menu, but we did not have an opportunity snacks! I LOVE to find local craft breweries, and Katabatic Brewing Company did NOT disappoint!! They have delicious offerings for every taste - friendly service too! If you're hungry and you want food, they provide a menu from the next door Mexican restaurant, but it doesn't feel like the usual "co-op" experience!! If you didn't know, you'd never know! But the main attraction is definitely the beer! And if your party has non-beer drinkers, there's a nice selection of wine as well! The atmosphere is comfortable and the decor is rustic/industrial and definitely on-point. Ok....4.8 stars. The beers were awesome but the service was ok. We sat down and I noticed right away that there was no place to hang your jacket because none of the table chairs have backs to them. They're all bar stools and the chairs at the bars have backs, wtf!!?? Our server came over right away after we sat down but we hadn't looked at the menu yet so we weren't ready. When we were ready, he never came back. We had to order at the bar. The food is actually made at the Mexican restaurant next door. It was pretty good but I had done a Yelp search on good burgers in my area when we were coming back from a hike and this place came up first, and they don't even cook their own food and they only have one burger and it was just good. I came here excited to support a local brewery, but the experience was nothing short of a disaster. From the moment we walked in, the staff seemed completely uninterested in acknowledging our presence. We stood at the bar for nearly 15 minutes while Kat, the bartender avoided us, deliberately avoiding eye contact. When we finally did get "help," it was delivered with an attitude that made it feel like we were inconveniencing her by ordering a beer in their brewery. Our food from next door came out quicker than the beer flights we ordered! The service was painfully slow, the manager Kat barely interacted and slow at best. She was nowhere to be found when glasses needed clearing, and asking for a simple water felt like we were asking for the moon. Breweries are supposed to be about community, good vibes, and a shared love of craft beer. Instead, this place runs on laziness, apathy, and excuses. Stopped in with a friend for a beer and some food, and unfortunately the service left a lot to be desired. It was around 2 pm on a Tuesday, and there were only two other customers in the entire place, so we expected quick and friendly service. Instead, it took about 10 minutes before anyone came over to take our order. We ordered beers first, then food. Oddly enough, our food came out before our beers ever arrived--which really shouldn't happen at a brewery. When the beers did show up, there was no acknowledgment of the delay or apology. The bartender, Kat, barely engaged with us and gave the impression that she didn't want to be there at all. There was no effort to create a welcoming atmosphere, and it honestly felt like we were inconveniencing her by simply being there. For a brewery that should pride itself on craft beer and hospitality, this was a disappointing experience. The food itself was fine, but the overall vibe and lack of basic service overshadowed everything. When a place is nearly empty and the staff still can't provide attentive service, that says a lot. This spot is an awesome place to go for brews. They've got a solid line up to choose from. I got a couple of flights and ended up trying 7 total. I would drink every single one of them again and they were all different styles for the most part. They aren't a one trick pony that's for sure. They have some offerings for food that are from next door. The barbacoa nachos were outstanding and we crushed them. I had chicken enchiladas and my friend had a burrito. We enjoyed both! Added bonus that our server was awesome and even gave us some fishing tips for our trek into Yellowstone the next day. Great spot check it out!! read more

Decently sized place on a scenic street in downtown Livingston. Tough get a spot these days with COVID rules on seating, but their mask compliance was great and they made sure tables were clean and ready for new patrons as soon as someone left. Solid sud selection with varying styles, so no matter what you like you're gonna find something at least tangentially related to your favorite style. Good beer, good service, cool tap room on Main Street. It's a really chill spot and I'd love to go back if I ever make it back to Livingston. A quick pitstop in Livingston for a beer, and a snack. It was two breweries on the list to try. and they opened at 12 noon -- actually let us sneak in early. They offer daily beer specials-- so of course we had to try the Tippy Truck Blonde (made from honey from Harlowtown, MT). It was good, definitely had a honey taste and was a light beer. We had the chips salsa and guacamole which was delicious, the guacamole was recommended by the bartender and it was chunky with tomato and onion, definitely worth trying when you stop in. Katabatic is named after a wind speed, so it was interesting to find how they came up with the name. read more

In downtown Livingston, Award winning microbrewery that serves "food" So seeing 4 1/2 stars on Yelp we wanted to try this microbrewery on our first night in Livingston. Located right off of the I 90 business bypass that goes right through town with plenty of street parking in the downtown area, but in the winter there might be snow piled up and less places to park. It is a big open space with a long bar and high bar tables. There is a sign to seat yourself and bus your own tables. You actually go to the corner of the bar to order where they will give you a number stand. In addition when you order beer they give you tickets as way to control how much beer you drink. The draft menu is clearly displayed above the bar. That night they had a Hefeweizen, scotch ale, pale ale, IPA, clean water pilsner, coffee porter, Irish Red, and a Belgian Ale. Food wise, they have a tex-mex themed menu with deep fried enchiladas, chimichangas, crispy shell or flour tortilla tacos, etc. I noticed no one was eating there but didn't figure that out as a bad sign, until one of the regulars told us that food is bad. Everyone in Katabatic was super friendly, talking, and having a good time. I ordered the clean water pilsner, which was very fresh clean palate with a slight hoppy after taste. More German than Czech. We ordered tacos and assumed that soft tacos mean corn tortillas. Also the fried enchilada appetizer. We got the shredded beef, why? Because we were in Montana. The beef was tasty, but the flour tortillas get soggy fast. The deep fried enchiladas were better after dipped in sour cream. Three entrees and two microbrews just over $30 what a deal. Beer was awesome, food OK, and great atmosphere. Will be coming back to drink beer. read more
