I find myself compelled to offer this commentary on my experience at Tahoe Forest Hospital because…read moreI have read some of the reports and cannot believe those people were at the same facility. I am a 94-year-old male adult who believed himself to be in reasonable health for his age. I was visiting family at Donner Lake when I found myself short of breath and the left arm swollen beyond normal. My son drove me to TFH. I entered the emergency room and was immediately seated at the in-take desk. There were two other patients seated in the ER waiting area. My information was recorded quickly and efficiently. I was seated in the waiting area for about 5 minutes before being called to go to the treatment area. The staff helped me get to bed in the ER and shortly I was examined by Dr. Amy Little. We described all my symptoms and she ordered tests. About 20 minutes later she returned and very comprehensively explained that I had problems more serious than I had thought. More exams were ordered and treatment was initiated. Dr. Nicolas Vargas performed a thoracentesis on my left lung cavity and removed 1.15 liters of fluid I did not know was there. This was done in the ER with no pain at all. Dr. Haven Ritchie recommended I be admitted for an overnight stay to make sure there would be no complications from the procedure. She also carefuly outlined other issues about which she had concern in terms that I could understand. By late afternoon I was transferred to a room on the second floor. I was received by Nurse Anne and made most comfortable. I remained in the hospital for another day and a half while they were making sure it was safe for me to travel by air to my home in Arizona. During this time, I was being cared for by Dr. David Richie and Dr. Ann Little. At no time was I left I the dark about my condition. Nurse Anne was extremely attentive and there was nothing I needed that she did not supply immediately. She was the day nurse. I received the same quality care from the night nurse, Amy. I must mention that the quality of the food was excellent. It was more than I could eat and the nurses were very good to me, they allowed me to leave food on my plate. By the third day they had me up and walking in the hall. I was deemed eligible for discharge. The discharge activity was conducted very efficiently. I would score this facility and the staff a 10 on a scale of 1-10. Thank you for allowing me to express my views on the excellent care I received. Douglas J. Halbert, Sr.

NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)…read more I now have experience with almost two dozen families that have expanded or began their brood at Saint Mary's labour and delivery department. Amazingly, they all sing praises to the doctors and RN's on that floor. I also know that the more complicated obstetrics cases are sent here. Sometimes via helicopter, if necessary!!! Wow! Sometimes things don't always turn out as easy as ABC. Due to pre-existing conditions or complications some babies need a little help after they're born. Enter the Neonatal Intensive Care team at Saint Mary's. The knowledgeable doctors and incredibly caring nurses at Saint Mary's are the best when baby is in duress. There is picture after picture on the walls of many of these babies and how big and healthy they are today. Miracle workers might be too strong a word. I don't think so. I recommended a neighbor use Saint Mary doctors and facilities. Her little girl ended up 6 weeks premature and so sickly they didn't expect her to live. I can't tell you what these women did, but right now that same little girl is turning cartwheels in the park by my house! I'm sold.

This review kills me to write, because my wife is a 10 year RN in our family knows firsthand how…read moremuch some of these nurses and Dr. sacrificed to take care of complete strangers who are absolutely ungrateful. That being heart felt and said... I could go into a long-winded story about what happened to me, but I think I'll leave it a short and as sweet as possible. I was moderately injured. My thumb was badly lacerated, and I needed an immediate medical attention. I suffer from acute anxiety and social issues and it can be difficult for me to present in a doctors office for any reason whatsoever -- And because of notes in my file from previous visits- that are multiple years old, I was treated like shit -blatantly and obvious -what was currently the situation didn't matter in the slightest. . I guess the point I'm trying to make is I was suffering and in desperate need of help on multiple fronts- and I guess it shocks me to learn that as a confident & upright successful person with a good job and even a very nice homeowner- I just thought I had matured into a place where I wasn't even aware .... -I just didn't know strangers could hurt me like that or make me feel that low , or effect me the way I experienced there. Feeling hurt like that is new to me. It absolutely sucks. It blows my mind those people are medical professionals. I am currently driving all the way to Tahoe to have my thumb sewed back on hopefully -because despite my injury ,they cared more about that I had done drugs in the past and treating me like a piece of human trash and actually being concerned whatsoever about helping me -and one knows when they are not welcome. I won't name names, but I'd like to leave you with this departing message; If you'd like to be a cop, go be one. If you cannot handle some brutal honesty, man to man, & face-to-face, don't ask questions you have no business asking in triage -in a condescending and judgmental manner. Plus I didn't even know they made extra medium fig tops like that. Cool. The only thing cooler about the souvenir you left me would've been a few to autographed it rockstar.smh lol all of the LOLS. Finally in closing - Do so much fn better please. Please just do so much better.

As a result, I had to call back a second and third time. Both Lacy and Caitlyn were incredibly patient, caring, and friendly throughout the entire process. They took the time to answer all of my questions, provided the information I needed, and promptly submitted a new referral so I could be seen. Lacy and Caitlyn didn't stop there--they went above and beyond by providing additional resources and helping me explore other options. I truly appreciate their kindness, professionalism, and willingness to help. Thank you both for making what could have been a frustrating experience much easier to navigate!

One used a bedside commode only inches from her bed. The environment was chaotic, frightening, and completely lacking in privacy. After we requested a different room, she was left in a public family waiting room for more than three hours. Basic requests for water and assistance with painful, bloody IVs were repeatedly ignored. Nurse Camille was rude, confrontational, and dismissive of legitimate medical concerns. When we attempted to escalate those concerns, Charge Nurse Grace supported Camille rather than helping us obtain appropriate medical attention. Most disturbing, Grace repeatedly refused and physically blocked our attempts to speak with the House Supervisor. She told us, "He will not come down for this. He is going to follow my leadership." She also responded to our concerns with, "It is what it is." A charge nurse should help patients access the appropriate chain of command--not stand in the way of it. The lack of compassion, professionalism, privacy, and concern for patient safety on this medical-surgical floor was shocking.
