Rock The World Fitness is THE best gym you will ever join! I've been eager to get in better health for years now - but I've always been turned off by run-of-the-mill gyms. I decided to yelp kickboxing (thinking it would be fun to learn self defense while burning off calories) and was so lucky to come across this listing. When I saw 5 stars from all users, I thought "Could this place be that good, or do these trainers have a lot friends writing reviews for them?" It has now been a month since I started the class, and am hooked! Started out slow taking 1 class a week, then quickly progressed to 2-3 times a week. I wouldn't be surprised if in a month, I start going daily. Seriously, when I skip a day, I miss it. It's the best investment you'll make for yourself, with the added perk that you get to exercise with a great group of people. Everyone is super nice, and the trainers create a safe and fun learning environment. Honestly, if we could give this gym 10 stars, we would do it in a heart beat. The past seven months at Rock the World have been one of the best fitness experiences of my life! Erik and Emily are so incredibly helpful and patient, and whether you are coming from an experienced background or are a total newbie (like me!), you can find a home here. There's ample parking, small to medium class sizes, and a schedule that is ideal for when you have evenings/weekends open. They change around the routines/lessons with each class so that it's never a dull night. And they always play the BEST music to get you going. I would definitely recommend trying a class or two to get started (there's often Groupon deals), but be warned that you may never want to leave :) read more

This place rocks the world! I've been training here for more than 6 months and love it. I just finished one of the hardest workouts ever in Wing Chun and feel even more jazzed to come in. Some of the reasons why I love this place are: Decent class sizes A menu of different martial options. One stop shop for gear Great staff that pushes you! Parking! If you need gear they will order it for you. I had a kali stick tournament and these guys ordered me the gear I needed to participate. The helmet I ordered was the wrong size and they got me the correct one in time for my tournament. Who does that? THESE GUYS DO. BECAUSE THEY ROCK! In a world where the martial arts are dying off. Emily and Erik approach teaching with great enthusiasm. They make learning a joy. If you have a willingness to learn these guys will teach you. Couldn't be happier to give an establishment a five-star review! I found an offer for this gym on Groupon and based on the Yelp reviews I decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did -- this place is AWESOME! Emily and Erik are so kind and patient and they both make everyone feel so welcomed and a part of their fitness family. Prior to this gym, I had absolutely no experience with boxing or muay thai (kickboxing). On my first day here Emily greeted me and explained to me the process of the classes and how everything worked. She and Erik are both so genuine, personable, patient and kind -- the best people to learn from! They are incredibly encouraging and it helps me feel more at ease being new to this realm of exercise. Now, about the actual workouts. They are intense! If this is your first time ever, I say try a boxing class first and then give kickboxing a try. I think it's a good transition since there is more involved with kickboxing. The good thing is the classes include all levels and everyone is patient and understanding if you need to slow down or take a breather. The coordination involved with these workouts also gives your brain a great exercise~ I'm approaching the end of my Groupon deal and decided to purchase a package so I can continue with this place. If you're on a budget and worried about it being too expensive (like I was), ask about the different package options! 5 stars all the way. Emily and Eric are class acts. They're fun, love what they do, and are expert technically. The gym is clean and very well equipped, and classes run like clockwork. Everyone I've met over the last 3 years working out there is super nice. No sparring, which some people want and others don't, but it definitely limits the 'goon factor' you get at some other gyms. This is a great place to improve your technique in multiple arts and get a great workout. I definitely recommend it. read more

There's a few things you should know before you sign up, things other reviewers here didn't mention. Besides the first, all of the following policies were not mentioned when I first signed up. I found out over the few months I spent here, each new instance irking me more and more. First, there is no free intro class. This was red flag number 1 for me. Most schools offer a free intro class, just like most car dealerships let you test drive a car before you buy. Imagine getting charged for that test drive. Here it costs 35 bucks. But hey, this school is so close to my place, it's so convenient. I signed up anyway. Second. OK, you're signed up. $175 a month for Hapkido, Jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai classes!! Sounds a little too good, right? IT IS. If you wanna do Hapkido or Jiu-jitsu, you HAVE to buy a gi (karate uniform) from rock the world. ONLY from rock the world. It costs $95. Their explanation: (we don't want any kind of logos or brands on the gis that are used here, so we sell a gi with no logos or brands. Plus, you'd be helping out the school! It's like paying for your uniform on your high school basketball team.) Dude, I just signed up here. I haven't fallen enough in love with you guys to want to give you more of my money. Plus, there are logo-less, brand-less gis on Amazon for $30 cheaper. High school teams don't charge a $175 monthly membership fee son. Nope, sorry. Have to buy their gi. This is anti-capitalism! This is un-American! You will be encouraged hard from day 1 to do Hapkido. I later found out why. Every time you advance in belt class in Hapkido, guess what? That's right, you gotta PAY UP! So for example, you develop your skills enough to advance from white belt to orange belt or whatever the next belt is. You have to PAY them to move up! WHAT?? It starts out pretty cheap at first, maybe $50 to go from white to the next level, but the later belts go into the several hundred dollar range. That's right, you get CHARGED for your hard work. Martial arts belts on Amazon cost 2 bucks, by the way. I've heard other schools engage in this scam scheme, and sadly it's perpetuated here. The owners are frequently late to class. Last week, they cancelled a Muay Thai class outright with 1 hour notice. "We'll make it up to you", the owners said. I'm still waiting. The gym was closed 5 full class days in December. I understand Christmas day closed, but not the other days. I asked for a refund on my monthly dues that month. DENIED. I paid for a full month, but got 25 days, like paying for a dozen eggs and getting 10 eggs. This is some UNPROFESSIONAL behavior. Also, there is no open mat time, which is a standard at other schools. The final straw was this: I quit the school this month. When I started, my first day of class was October 6TH. I paid for a full month of training that day, and then I paid for a full month of training on the first day of the month of all the months thereafter, as is their policy. However, when I told the owners that I was quitting this month (February), I was DENIED the chance to complete my full month of training. I should have been allowed to train up until Feb 6th, as is fair since I started on the 6th of October. But I was NOT allowed. My last day was Feb 2nd. I missed out on 4 days of training that I PAID for. I got burned. I don't want others to get burned. read more

50+ lbs of fat GONE! If I could give more than 5 stars I would. My background: I have always been an avid runner/cardio freak, a swimmer. I used to do yoga daily for 4 years, and I've dabbled in pilates and martial arts. I have had personal trainers for a good portion of my adult life as well. I have tried every diet, I have had liposuction even- clearly, I have made may attempts at being fit. NONE have proven as effective as seeing Emily and Erik 2x a week, I am literally thinner than I was in high school! Best of all, I am in the best shape of my life. I have trim muscular arms (first time in my life!) I have abdominal definition rivaling Janet Jackson in 1993, and my booty is round and firm (formerly a flabby pancake butt, as I so delicately put it). Prior to working out with Rock The World Fitness and of course, getting my portions and diet on track, I was overweight. I am 5'3" and I was about 164 lbs. Now I am 112 (I guess that is 52 lbs of fat GONE :)) and I've likely packed on about 10-15 lbs of muscle (so perhaps we are actually talking more like 65+ lbs of fat gone!). What I love is the truly personal attention to detail Erik and Emily pay. My work outs are consistently different, and challenging, but there is always a clear emphasis on equally targeting each muscle group in new ways. What you'll learn after many failed attempts at getting in shape, is that changing your routine and changing the challenges are essential to results- Rock The World Fitness does this p e r f e c t l y. My husband now sees them too and is loving the results. Erik and Emily are also very understanding of the process of progress. They will never make you feel bad for what you cannot achieve even though they strive to give you challenges, and you'll never feel insecure about your body and what you are capable of. Though you'll get results that rival any "extreme" or "bootcamp" style of work out, you're never yelled at or pushed to your breaking point. Safety is also a huge priority. Erik and Emily are both great at taking turns spotting you, counting, and frequently letting you grab water, or grabbing it for you. They emphasize proper breathing and always include stretching. I always leave feeling so energized and stress free, more so than any other work out class I've taken (and yes, I used to do yoga with the best of the best). I've also found a new love for boxing and MMA I nevvvvver thought I would have, but they just make it so much fun and rewarding. read more

Ooooooooh snap! I think I might be hooked. I've always wanted to learn self defense and get a killer work out at the same time. It just took me forever to get around to it because I was worried about my lack of experience and questionable coordination. But I saw a Yelp deal and thought that it wouldn't hurt to try out a few personal training sessions before completely diving in. Things worth noting: 1. Emily and Erik are the shiznit. Fo serio. 2. Refer back to #1 3. For Muay Thai you need gloves and hand wraps. If you don't have them, they have the equipment for sale on site. Or, if you're not sure, you can borrow gloves and buy the hand wrap for $10. Totally reasonable. 4. HUGE parking lot. Do you have any idea how rare that is in LA? 5. They have evening group classes during the week and day classes on Saturday. $150 per month for unlimited classes (me thinks). A really good deal. 6. You can hear the theme from The Karate Kid in the background while working out. How could you NOT get pumped? 7. Highly addictive: I leave each session feeling tired as hell but uber refreshed at the same time. Emily and Erik are great instructors with a laid back and positive attitude. This relaxed approach is great because you're actually having fun while working out. Plus you feel eerily compelled to work out harder than you normally would on your own volition. 8. This is an all around great way to get in better shape while training in something that's interesting, exciting, and fun. I became a fan of MMA in the last ten years, but I never thought I would actually partake in learning any of the disciplines you watch on TV. Then, after a recommendation from a friend, I attended my first class with Emily and Erik. I had no experience, but they kept the class fun and now, a year and a half later, I'm showing up to the group classes about 4 days out of the week. I'm currently taking Muay Thai Kickboxing, Jiu Jitsu, Hapkido, and the MMA class, which brings it all together - all for an amazing and affordable price! Thanks to Rock the World Fitness pushing me hard, I've gotten stronger, better stamina, and in better shape. Plus it's just plain cool knowing striking combinations and different submissions! So even though I'll be sweating buckets and sometimes exhausted, at the end of every class, I walk away proud knowing that I'm just getting in better shape every day. For me working out has always been the typical gym 3-5 times a week at the gym where you rotate cardio and lifting. As you may know that get boring after a while... I had been interested in starting Kickboxing/Muay Thai and starting martial arts classes, but it was semi-intimidating to buy a Groupon or show up one day to start classes. That was until a friend told me about his gym, Rock the World Fitness. Emily and Erik (the Owners) had offered many times to have me stop in and try out a class to see if it was for me. Each time I turned it down. Finally, I gave in and join the gym. I had been wanting to get back into shape and figured if I just "jump" at least the investment will drive me to go to Muay Thai (kickboxing) to get my money's worth. The first day I was VERY nervous, thinking I was walking into class with other students, whom I assumed where like my friend that had been going for years. I was scared I was going to make a fool of myself, but I was ready to get into shape again so I said what the heck! Erik and Emily right out of the gate welcomed me. It was nice, I never felt like a transaction to them, but part of the family. Erik told me to take things slow and focus on technique and not to rush things. I quickly realized that this was how they ran their gym. The class had students of all different levels that are all willing to help each other and take things at the pace I was comfortable. Some of the more experienced students would give me hints and feedback, and always assured me that I was doing well and they had been the new person before. It made me feel okay that I was the "new" guy, but that it was okay to mess up. Erik and Emily were very active on the floor and even in the group sessions stopped over to see how I was doing and to give me some instruction. This was AWESOME! I was worried I would be the guy at the back of the room kicking boxing at his own beat, but Erik, Emily and the other students really made me feel welcomed. I was using gloves my friend gave me. After a few classes I noticed the older gloves were not the best fit for me. Emily helped me, and ordered better gloves through the gym. The gloves are top notch and really helped! It was nice for them to offer products so I know what I am buying is of decent quality, verse me going to a sporting goods store and spending money on equipment that might not work out. After a few Muay Thai classes, I realized that Rock the World also offers Hapkido, Jiu-jitsu and Wing Chung. I spoke with Emily about the other classes and she encouraged me to take a class schedule and just try the different classes out. I went home and did some research and realized Hapkido was more along the lines of the type of martial arts I wanted to try. I showed up to one of the Saturday classes to try Hapkido. Like the Kickboxing class I was nervous, and worried I'd make a fool of myself. To my relief, it was just like my first Kickboxing class. Erik and Emily took it slow and dove right in teaching me Hapkido. They are amazing trainers, they support you, get you out of your comfort zone to get you to become the best. I have been taking Hapkido now for a month, and I'm preparing to test for my Yellow Belt. Because of my work schedule I am not always able to make it to all the 6pm Hapkido classes. I've really taken to Hapkido, and enjoy training with Emily and Erik, I decided to purchase private lessons with them. This way it would allow one-on-one training and I could get more classes and training under my belt to feel ready to test for my Yellow belt. Emily and Erik were happy to work around my schedule and fit in the sessions to help me meet my goal and master the techniques needed to test. The thing I cannot emphasize enough is that even in the group setting Erik and Emily know the progress of each of their students. They take a vested interest in helping their students reach their goals. It was really cool that for my first private lesson, they already were prepared to help me in areas that I needed to improve, before I had to express it. We spent the session focusing on my techniques that in the group setting, I only get to practice a few times. Eric and Emily took things at my pace and continued to coach and encourage me. I left the session pumped and excited for the progress I had made in the short hour. It is not hard for me to say I LOVE this gym! Emily and Erik have a real passion for teaching their arts and it makes each class enjoyable! If you are exploring gyms or entering a martial arts then this gym is where you should invest your time. I have only been at the gym for a little over a month and I can already see results. I have lost 10lbs. I am very glad I took the leap into joining Rock the World Fitness. I started working in Marina Del Rey about two months ago and had been taking Muay Thai kickboxing classes for three years when getting my undergraduate degree. I found this gym via Yelp and because of its rave reviews, close proximity, and evening hours, I decided to give it a try. I contacted Erik and Emily via the email on their website and their phone number to ask about a walk-in session. They got back to me the exact same day via both contacts (email, calling me, and texting me; only once so it was not intrusive nor bothersome), excited to have me come by and informative in what I needed to bring. I just went for one hour long session for Kickboxing and I was hooked from then on. Erik and Emily do a fantastic job of: (+) Keeping up the energy in the room so you keep punching and kicking even when you think you're out of juice. (+) Staying attentive to each member in the room and taking the time to make sure their form is correct. (+) Being knowledgeable and passionate about what they're teaching to everyone in the class I attend about 2-3 times a week and there's usually an average of 3-6 people training with you. The biggest attendance I've seen was 9 people (not including me), so you'll definitely be sure to get the attention you would want when learning martial arts. The gym also teaches lessons in Hapkido and Jiu-jitsu, and does support a belt system for the two of them if you're interested in having a physical representation of your progress (besides your physical fitness, of course). You can expect a lot of cardio during any of the classes, so even if you're just looking for a good whole-body workout, I'd still recommend this gym. Amaaaaaazing. I can't say enough good stuff about this group. I don't think I've trained with anyone more motivating or enthusiastic as erik and emily. I look forward to every single class. And even on days where i'm dragging and don't feel like doing anything but mold myself to my couch after work, I end up so so sooooo thankful that I got off my ass to go, because I end up leaving with three times the energy I went in with. Their muay thai class is one of the hardest and challenging workouts I've done, but also one of the most rewarding as I literally see improvement with each class. And that just motivates me more to continue. They are one of the reasons I may contemplate a westside move, just so I can go more often. They are genuinely committed to each person they work with and really believe in each person's potential. And I believe THAT is what makes the difference between them and any other training facility you go to. They will push you hard without pushing you over the edge. Since moving to LA I've been on the search for a gym that meets the following criteria: 1. Makes me feel 100% comfortable training and being a girl 2. Has a variety of classes at both early and late times all throughout the week to accommodate my hectic work schedule 3. Has smaller classes to get a more personalized experience 4. Is affordable for not only the classes but individual training sessions as well 5. Has amazing trainers who know their stuff 6. Rock The World Fitness deserves every star you see here--all 145 of 'em. Emily and Erik are fantastic fighters, teachers, and people and they give so much to make sure you get the most out of class. Here are some of the awesome things about this gym: *This review is all about their Muay Thai classes--I haven't tried the others yet. 1. Teeny tiny itsby bitsy class sizes. There are only about 2-4 people per class and often both Emily and Erik are there. That is a ridiculously (awesome) teacher to student ratio. You get so much individual time and everyone stays safe and gets strong. I've had it happen where people had to cancel and I ended up being the only one in class. I feel like most places would have just canceled class, but Emily and Erik still came to give me a private session-so incredibly kind and dedicated of them! 2. Emily and Erik can teach all levels. I am very much so a beginner and they are patient and supportive. Classes are mixed level so for the students who already know how to hit somebody really hard and really well Emily and Erik have lots to offer them too; making modifications to make the combinations more challenging and faster. Also it's pretty easy to pair off with people who are around your level. It's really impressive how Emly and Erik can cater to everyone in the room during one class. 3. Great combination of conditioning and technique. You start off the class with a warm-up/conditioning that consists of doing a series of different exercises that are measured by time, not reps. That lasts about 15-20 min and then you get to doing Muay Thai. Sometimes you're working with a fellow student, sometimes you work on the bag, or sometimes you're with Emily or Erik. Once again I'm a beginner so I don't know what happens when there's a class full of only more advanced people, but for all the classes I've been in we've done mostly partner combinations and bag work. 4. As expected, it's a really good work out. Each class is action packed and hard for an hour. There are a lot of students at this studio who are quite fit but still feel tired by the end of class. And if you're someone like myself who exercises pretty regularly, but isn't really athletic then you will definitely be satisfied by the amount of exercise. Or! If you're someone who is looking for a fun way to start working out then this an awesome place to come to work on your own goals with out being intimidated--everyone is so supportive and welcoming. I've been coming for about a month and I already feel stronger and more coordinated. 5. Incredibly unreasonable class prices---unreasonably good that is! Right now the price is $175 monthly unlimited for Muay Thai...so you can go 6 days a week and take multiple classes a day with incredible instruction and lots of one on one time. That makes no sense--it's too good to be true!!! I'm not complaining though :) They also sell a lot of good products that are high quality right in studio. 6. Supportive and safe environment. In addition to Erik and Emily being awesome, everyone who takes the classes is really nice! It's a smaller studio so you get to see familiar faces often and everyone there wants to do their best and have a good time, making for an awesome, encouraging environment. I was a little nervous to try Muay Thai out, because I didn't want to get made fun and beat up, but Rock the World Fitness is a place where you have fun and get to beat other people up! (not really though)! Emily and Erik know how to present technique to you in a very clear way and are watching you at all times and giving you instruction to keep you safe and make you stronger. Holy Crap! How did I forget to write a review about Rock the World Fitness and Erik & Emily, the best Muy Thai Kickboxing Trainers ever! I've been going to personal training with them, with my fiancee, for many months now, and I'm in the best shape of my life. Since my days as a wee young lad watching THE KARATE KID, I always wanted my own personal Mr. Miyagi, and with Erik & Emily, you get Mr. & Mrs. Miyagi. They are both awesome trainers, I've learned so much, and work out harder in that hour I train with them every week, then I do the entire week (yes, I'm trying my best to remedy that). I hurt, I ache, I'm drenched in sweat, I'm tired after their workouts, but then later that day I feel great. I definitely feel like I'm ready to take on Chuck Norris or Jean-Claude Van Damme, although I'm not sure I can do the split jump kick yet. When I first moved back to LA in Feb 2014, I obsessively tried multiple gyms to find the right niche. Regular Gold's Gym/24 Hour/LA Fitness type establishments bore me - I need someone to tell me what the f*** to do sometimes, so I began looking around Culver City, Westchester, Marina Del Rey area with these criteria in mind: 1) Price and 2) Will I lose weight/get in shape? About me: I am pretty conscious about money, as I'm sure a number of you reading this are as well. Of all the gyms I looked at, RTW was the most expensive. When I first looked around, I wanted to get the most bang for my buck and I needed to lose weight. And not get bored (I'm kind of a slight ADD kind of person). They were the first one I tried. ..and after checking out about 4 more gyms, I realized they won. Here is why: 1) Price: $175/mo (at the time of this review) for Muay Thai Kickboxing, Jiu Jitsu, and Hapkido. At the moment, Hapkido formally uses the belt system, and they are beginning to do it for Jiu Jitsu. Their equipment is amazing, and their gym is always clean. I believe you are able to be there for an open mat session if you give them a heads up since it is only the 2 of them managing the facility so they may be out if it isn't class time, but otherwise, students are welcome to use the bags, weights, and equipment when they want. They encourage purchasing your own hitting equipment, like gloves (why would you want to use someone else's nasty gloves anyway???), thai pads, and focus mitts. You are able to purchase those outside of the gym, and do not require theirs. However, their quality is fantastic! I personally used their Thai pads for the entire time I've been there, but bought my own focus mitts. They also offer lots of supplements, and can I just say as a VERY sensitive caffeine person, their Jet Fuse NOX is amazing (no jitters!). ***TIP: They sometimes do a signup special of 3-Month, 6-Month, and 1-Year, typically around holiday time. After over a year of attending their gym, I chose to do the 3-Month for $135/mo. But prices will vary when they offer it, but keep that in mind! It's great that they offer that for current members, and not just new ones. 2) Will I lose weight/get in shape?: So here's what it's really all about if money isn't an issue, or if you're like me where money is an issue, but felt it was worth it. Having about 3 cardio kickboxing classes under my belt before this place, I had VERY little experience in martial arts. I purchased the yelp deal at the time just to give it a try. I came in at 5pm, but I think their schedule was updated so I came when class wasn't being given, but I remember Erik graciously invited me to do the class anyway when I arrived so I didn't need to wait - it was like personal training! He mentored me through that first class with patience and enthusiasm, that it was impossible for me to not be pumped myself. Class sizes are small, so you get a lot of attention. Sometimes it can get up to 8 or 9, but generally even then they're being very attentive. I first started with Muay Thai, but after about 5 or so months, I took advantage of Jiu Jitsu..and then soon after that, I might as well take Hapkido. From 1 Kickboxing class 2-3x week to all 3 class 3x a week - I really got my money's worth! And let me tell you, both Emily and Erik know their stuff. I would especially ask Emily about nutrition and diet when I felt like I was in a stump, or something wasn't working out, and she would guide me on what/how/when/why to eat certain things. They would sometimes do Spartan Runs and invite the gym, so if you're into that, that'd be a great fitness and comrade opportunity! They have both been training for a long time, so I felt very safe in all of our lessons, and they definitely pushed me to my limits. The great thing is they remember you and you're not just a number to them. They remember your trainings and classes and habits, and it's just a great accountability system. Results: Since I started, and when I was consistently going, I lost 25 lbs and gained so much muscle. I even had a few of my friends join. Everyone that attends the gym ARE SO NICE! They have their regulars from their last location, and they all never treated my like I was "fresh meat". I really enjoyed the veterans of that gym for helping me in my test taking and techniques. So if you're still reading and still unsure, definitely give them a chance because your body needs love and RTW can give it to you. read more

Not much to say except that I am glad I have found this place! I'll start off by saying that I am already in decent shape, so my goal was to find someone who can teach me muay thai and push me even further. I did a simple google search and chose the closest spot to my work with good reviews. When I found this place I simply payed the monthly fee, showed up for class, and definitely got my hours worth of training! I found that Eric and Emily (the owners) are a super patient, helpful, and an attentive duo. They are able to effectively run a beginner and an advanced class at the same time. The facility is very clean and spacious. And everyone I met was friendly and understanding (on my first few sessions, I sometimes messed up some of the combinations. They were super cool with it and helped show me the proper way to execute them). Also, with the way they teach, you pickup the concepts pretty easy. There are no egos here, just people willing to learn and have fun doing it. My advice, just give it a try and be prepared to work, you'll definitely end up wanting to come back for more. read more

Great place to get in shape, meet people and learn a variety of martial arts. I joined mainly to get in better shape and take a stab at learning something new, and I am happy with both. Erik and Emily are great. They take it slow when they need to (for the noobs like me) but they can definitely kick it up for others. Class sizes are very reasonable, but no matter how many people show up, I feel like I get the right amount of attention. Some people have been going for months and others like me just joined weeks ago. But Erik and Emily can adjust to everyone. The others in the class are great too--if Erik and Emily don't notice you slipping up, your classmates definitely will, and they'll help you get on the right track. I've never really felt out of place among the advanced people. It's a good crowd. You can buy whatever equipment you might need for your first set of classes right there, and they're good about letting you borrow stuff you may need when you're starting out (although for kickboxing definitely get your own gloves eventually--nobody likes to use perpetual loaners). There's a parking lot and street parking, for those who need to drive. The location is a great short walk for all those people in the Marina/Culver City lofts &apartments nearby. For class times visit the Web site, but basically there are daily evening classes and Sunday classes. The monthly prices are very reasonable or you can pay $20 for a single class to try before you buy. I was hooked after the first class and signed up immediately for a month. I usually dont write reviews but since I found them here and now Im ADDICTED, I feel like its only right to write a review about this amazing place! Its already 2 months in the making for many more to come! I sincerely look forward to going to every class. I had joined to get back into shape, and now I feel so healthy and full of energy that I run from home there, work out then run back home after the work out! It honestly gets you in an awesome shape and most importantly, you end up feeling great over all. I found this place on Yelp about a month ago and have not regretted my decision to join the gym. They had a deal for the first couple months and I took advantage of it. I've only taken the Muay Thai class with Erik & Emily and it's been an awesome experience as yet. It's my first ever class in combat sports or martial arts and they definitely cater to your skill level and your goals. The classes are also very small and personal so you definitely can learn the appropriate techniques. They challenge you as much as possible and are always giving you feedback on your form. I haven't tried the other classes yet, but am considering trying them at some point. They also have cool merchandise and even sell them at a lower price! I had never done martial arts before, but wanted to try something new to jump start getting in shape. I searched for gyms near my house and saw the stellar reviews here - figured it was worth a shot. Believe the hype - it's all it's cracked up to be. Erik and Emily are so lovely and have been so welcoming, catering to my truly uncoordinated, beyond-beginner level. I have only done Muay Thai, but it's a good, challenging workout and even after just a handful of classes, I feel stronger. Starting these classes really put me out of my comfort zone, but the tiny class sizes (2-4 people including myself in my experience) allowed me to not feel intimidated. They give me plenty of 1-on-1 instruction as needed, but are also really good at inspiring me to push myself. You can tell they are caring instructors and really knowledgeable about their sport. Been going to this gym for about 4 months. I initially went to this gym because I was interested in taking their Muay Thai class. Well I ended up signing up for all the classes which include Boxing, Hapkido, Ju Jitsu, Wing Chun and Weapons. I never thought I would be so motivated to go to the gym. All thanks to Emily and Erik who are fantastic instructors and trainers. They are very passionate and patient in their teachings. They even send me pics and videos of me in action which is awesome. The other students that came before me are all so welcoming and fun to train with. I got my 2 roommates to take some classes and now they're hooked! I like the location of this gym. This gym is great! I've been coming here for about 8 months and it's always an intense, yet fun workout! I've been athletic all my life, starting at a young age with a passion for soccer. After completing my college career and moving to Los Angeles, I was running and searching for a way to stay in shape and have as much fun as I did with my favorite sport. I found Erik and Emily through a friend who also played soccer, and just fell in love! for years I've resisted the urge to write online reviews but I had to make an exception and create a Yelp account just so I could write this. in my humble opinion, you can't really do any better than Rock The World Fitness if you are looking for a martial arts gym to train, get fit and learn self-defense. Erik and Emily are by far the best trainers I've ever had the privilege of working with and I'm fairly certain that most the other people that train here feel the same way. if you are just starting out, even if you are not in shape and/or have never practiced any type of martial art before they can get you started easily and you will see improvement almost immediately (if you are willing to work at it of course). even if you are already an experienced fighter: Erik and Emily will definitely be able to show you some things you haven't seen before. the gym is small but its very nice and you can tell immediately on walking in that it is maintained with a lot of care. the equipment is all new, heavy-duty and they clean it constantly unlike some other gyms where you can catch a rash just from using the bags or falling on the mats. the people you meet here will be some of the coolest people in LA, in my opinion. nobody has a bad attitude and everyone is very welcoming and friendly. they take martial arts training very seriously in terms of focus and dedication but not seriously to the point of obsession like some other classes do. training at Rock The World emphasizes your personal interaction with the arts and also learning from many different perspectives. this makes the whole experience very rewarding as it's much more than just going through a bunch of drills all the time. Fun, friendly and very technical, you will not only want to make all the classes but also have all your friends join. I've tried all Hapkido, Jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai and MMA classes here --although I had to sit out the MMA the first time because kickboxing earlier turned me into a mush. It is INTENSE. Erik and Emily focus on polishing technique from day one while steadily building your stamina. They focus on safety first, technique and making sure you find those muscles you didn't know you had. There is a very friendly atmosphere not just in class but also from the others sharing the gym. The love of learning and teaching is self-evident here. You could also get personal training that is more competition-focused, but personally I found it a great relief that there are no ego-matches fought here or anywhere in sight.
