However, in the case of this Millburn Shoe Repair Store (True Fit), I have no choice but give a 1 because the owner quoted a different price than what he in reality charged me when the work was finished. I saw the owner on Thursday, 10/12/23 with my daughter regarding her pointe shoes that needed to be repaired. I showed the owner the shoes, the fabric (to be glued on) and we agreed that he would be able to do it next week. I asked him what the price would be and he said $25. (Later on, my daughter attested that this was indeed the price quoted). The next week, when I came back on Wednesday, 10/18 to pick up the shoes, the owner asked me to pay $40. I told him that he quoted me a different price the previous week and he stated that that he could not have had. Seeing my frustration, the owner said well let's meet in between and I will charge you $35. Well, maybe it seems fair to him but not to me as I was prepared to me not a cent above $25. If you say $25 when you see the work, it should stay $25. Period. What a disappointing experience! read more

When I went to pay, I was told they do not accept credit cards and I must pay in cash. Since I did not have enough on me, I asked if a check would be okay. I brought in two very old designer handbags. One needed to be repaired and the leather restored, the other to add a pocket for my cell phone along with some restoration work. Both now look amazing. Is the job somewhat expensive. Well, yes. But craftsmanship, at least excellent craftsmanship, costs money and the total job is far less than the cost to purchase a new handbag. Both now have a second life and will be around for many years to come. I trust True Fit for all my leather repairs. I live in town and have used True Fit before, knowing it was overpriced and owner was extremely arrogant, just because it was convenient, but now will never use again as a result of terrible business practices. I sent my daughter in to get some boots fixed and owner quoted her $30 to fix zipper alone, and then send it would be 45$ with heels. I brought a well-worn pair of Merrell hiking shoes here because the fabric was separating from the rubber on the tops & they looked like they were ready to be tossed. TrueFit repaired these beloved & well-broken-in shoes and I couldn't be happier with how they look now! You couldn't even tell that the shoe tops had been torn by the way they look now. I also discovered that TrueFit is an authorized Merrell repair dealer - good to know for keeping my hiking/walking shoes on the road!! I just got an ink stain on an expensive purse by accidently uncapping a pen and putting it in the outer pocket. Even though I bought this on sale, it was an expensive name brand purse and one of my favorites. Examining it carefully, the owner said it would take about a week and cost $35 to fix. What they did is bleach the black spot out and exactly match the brown leather. I can't see the difference or where the spot was. And for $35, I saved a $200 purse. Couldn't be more pleased. This man ruined a limited edition pair of oiled leather shoes. I brought in a pair to be resoled and when returned the sole looked good but the previously beautiful warm brown, limited edition oiled leather looked like it had been scrapped into a light brown nubuck. His response? Walk in them! No amount of walking can fix the his removal of the factory staining and oil he removed- the factory didn't walk in them to achieve the original color! The shoes looked completely different from how they looked when I bought them. He tried to act like he cleaned and restored them when he changed and ruined them. I expected someone who has been in business this long to know the difference - but either his ego would not let him acknowledge he made a dumb mistake or he really just didn't know the difference between oiled leather and nubuck. Either way one of my favorite shoes was ruined after a birthday surprise to get them resoled. No discount, no apology for ruining shoes- just an attitude. I've spent a few hours hand buffing the shoe to try to work the original sheen back in, but the color is different and the black overtones have been scraped off. read more

I just picked up my YSL tan leather bag that is completely ruined. I have never been more disappointed with the service provided. The purse was dyed the color that is completely off, the hardware was broken after removal for the job and reinstallation after the bag was " finished" . I had this feeling that it will not be a good end result. I should have listen to my gut. Please , if you have anything of value, do not use this shop. Not only the job is done below average, but the payment options are completely illegal as well. Have you heard of paying for services via cash, Zelle , Venmo to the guys wife's account?? I went in here to get a zipper fixed on my kids backpack, actually, both kids backpacks (my dog decided she likes to eat zippers). I inquired how much and I was told for the bigger backpack (a more expensive one at that, from Costco, cost about $60) it would be $65 to fix. The other backpack which was a Jansport, would cost $60. I give them my shoes for a "tune-up" after every season of wear and for the past several years did not need to spend $$$ on new shoes as they come out looking and feeling like new. Appalled when I picked up my shoes today and was charged $40 to have a thin black sole added to the front of a new pair of sandals. This should have been a $20-25 job. The employee agreed that their prices were "way too high" and that "the owner wouldn't listen to suggestions and feedback about price gauging their customers." Very mixed experience, and it was the shop I used for years. When they hit 3 fails, I moved on. One they misplaced a purse for over a year. The next was kept a jimmy choo shoe I wanted them to match the leather to replace a heel. - for a year. I ended up taking to jimmy choo shop and they fixed everything for $12...it was the third one that did me in. Designer boots a beautiful mid charcoal gray color, that match several outfits beautifully. I got caught in wet bad weather, so seeking to get salt stain addressed. Not horrible, but noticeable. They ended up polishing it black!!!, they attempted to bring it back to the original color, but that was the end of the line for me. These were $900 boots. I think they are good, but may not know their own limits about what they can handle in shop. read more

It is actually amazing how bad they are and they're still in business. I brought a favorite pair of boat shoes in for a resoling that I was assured would be no problem and when I got them back they literally had a regular shoe bottom. It was one of the strangest things I had ever seen and when I pointed it out the owner refused to acknowledge that anything was wrong with them. A dark rubber sole on my boat shoes instead of the standard white. I asked him to please take it off and put on a white one and he refused! Obviously they are useless now. Then my wife thought she was doing me a favor and brought in a favorite pair of Alden cordovan loafers for resoling. Instead of replacing with a nice thick leather sole like they came with he put on a think sole like the old Bally loafers. Again i said these look terrible and it makes them look freakish. He said they looked great and who would look at the sole anyway. They looked like weird slippers. I sent them to a reputable place for reeling and was told that they were so heavy-handed with he job they had done that the sticking ruined the welt and they couldn't resole them again. Overpriced and obnoxious owner. I was having trouble with a pair of leather, made in Italy pull on boots (no zipper). Brought them in hoping / thinking there was something that could be done, like stretching. The first question out of the owner's mouth in a condescending, rude way was where did I buy them? What on earth does that have to do with if he can fix them? Which by the way he said he couldn't. Then on another pair I was charged $45 for a simple repair that back in Hoboken would have cost $20. Do yourself a favor, stay away. I have since found another shoe repair shop in a town that's a little bit farther drive but that does gorgeous, quality work for sane prices. It doesn't get any better than this! My right leg is 5/8" shorter than my left and I have brackets from a surgery to my left foot -- needless to say, finding appropriate, supportive shoes are hard to find. I had a pair of Birkenstock's that did their "job" but needed to be retired. I loved them and didn't want to part with them! Not only did they apply 1/2" to the bottom of my newly soled shoes, they were kind enough to deliver them to my home in time expediently for my upcoming trip to Europe! I can't speak to the workmanship of my boot repair JUST yet as I got my boots back today, but I can say that everything they do seems top notch. My boots look as clean and shiny as the day I got them, and the work appears to be flawless. I was quoted $45 for new heel pads on my Lucchese custom cowboy boots, and guess what! That's EXACTLY what I was charged. No more, and no less. They do not accept credit cards, boo-hoo. It's an expense that hinders the bottom line in the eyes of the owner, and that is how they choose to run their business. I was VERY concerned with the quality of the heel pad as I get a lot of use out of my boots, and I am very particular about how they wear. The employees (I'm not sure if I dealt directly with the owner or not) were INCREDIBLY open to hearing my concerns, and worked with me to make sure I got the proper product given my needs. I was told to expect about two weeks before the boots would be ready since they're a custom boot. Let's talk customer service....they were ready in UNDER a SINGLE week. They have GREAT folks over there working an HONEST business. For now this place gets five stars....as I break them in again I'll update! read more

I have been going to this place for years, and I won't take my shoes anywhere else. I'm extremely choosy when it comes to altering and fixing my shoes and clothing (I get all of my clothing tailored at a specific place in NYC), and I guarantee you that this is the place you're looking for. True Fit has real integrity, and they listen to exactly what you say. I've had things mended here that manufacturers have told me were unsalvageable. Seriously. I've taken tattered suede boots here to get resoled, and they look like new every time. Just make sure to specify what it is you want. For example, I tell them to leave the sole unpolished for a vintage feel. They use top quality materials, and oftentimes my shoes come back in better condition than when I purchased them. Be prepared to spend a bit more than you thought you were going to; their meticulous manner comes at a cost. If you need a quick fix for a pair of shoes you don't really care about, this is not the place to go. (You can find that elsewhere for cheaper.) On the other hand, if you care about and love the shoes you need repaired, there is literally no better place to take them. read more
