When I first started going to True a few years ago, it was one of those spots I just had to stop by on Haight. But nowadays I end up browsing through the store without any real temptation to buy anything. And the customer service is less than mediocre but it's easy to ignore when you don't have any interest in buying. And even when I do find something I would want to buy, I like to keep my time short (in the clothing store). As for the shoe store, their customer service is great; they're very friendly and helpful. When I was there in Sept. 2010 they were having a liquidation, with many of their Jordans going for less than $100 (for the mens sizes) and $50-60 (for the big kids sizes). They also had hella big bins full of shirts that were on sale. Since the guys working here didn't have that better-than-you attitude, I found it nice to actually hang out here while I was trying to decide what shoes to buy. And it was nice to be able to chime in with them when they were talking about fantasy football. read more

Shirts are ~$30 a piece and they carry designs from multiple brands like LRG, Zoo York, Freshjive, Acrylik, etc. besides their in store brands. I like coming here to shop for some nice shirts. Selection is decent, but True isn't a 5 star shop because, as is stated many-a-time; this merchandise is over-priced, and the selection isn't insane. Yes, you stop in, yes, you might find a pair or two of shoes you want, but YES they are always overpriced. You go online, or you get a clue and head to FTC, to find gear that you really want. I've come here to get a couple pairs of shoes in the past. Only reason being that I did not know of any other places in the city that had a selection of Nike dunks to choose from. This place had dunks, and more. I've gotten all my LRG shirts here -a little expensive, but as mentioned below- you just don't see these tee's all too often. I love this store. The coolest, funniest, softest tees in the Bay are here. I love how they fit. I love the staff, who are polite but unobtrusive. And I love the compliments I get whenever I wear one of my tees, from "True" San Franciscans. I'm not cool enough to wear most of what they sell. I'm way too old. TRUE is definitely a place you need to stop by on your HAIGHT ST tour.. Street ware fix. I love the wall of fame on the ceiling with pic's from celebrity's like Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Amp Fiddler, Dave Chapelle etc. Of course you got the employees staring you up and down when you walk in peeping your KICKS, JEANS, and FITTED. Don't let that stop you from walking in. The prices for T's have gone up in the last few years, but there are usually at least 4 good prints on hand. This is the place I go to get my Ladies LRG apparel. They carry everything from jackets, jeans and shoes all urban style of course. It's good for those shitty days when you just don't give f--k and want to be comfortable. The prices can be a little high, they mark it up!! Hard to say anything bad about a hip hop store if you love hip hop. This place sports some fly stuff that you might not be able to get somewhere else... or at least have a hard time finding it. Things to get in here: Since I'm from SoCal... it's hard for me to find my Hyphy Fix down south. At least at TRUE they sell limited edition stuff that is only exclusive to the Bay Area such as the "We Run SF" Shirt or San Francisco Skyline stuff... If you like caps... you'll find some hats that are aiight. If you like kicks.. then you're sure to find a shoe that can color coordinate with your baby pink and aqua marine ensemble. More or less, you can be totally fitted from head to toe because you're likely to find gear that you'll like (Crooks and Castle, Obey Prop, Hundreds, Nonsense, 7th letter, etc..). TRUE! one of the bay's BEST boutique type of stores you can ever go to. They carry a lot of stuff you can find from karmaloop but they got the experience at the store and some of their own designs are pretty fresh too. It's an all right place for shoes. if you like brands like Nike, Alife, and some other random brands like Gravis and Vans. The selection is limited but it's because they only stock limited edition shoes or hard to find ones. This review is for the shoe store: If you're a sneakerhead and happen to be in the Haight, this is definitely one of the spots to check out. They carry some cool colorways and they have a good selection of kids sizes as well. The store is not huge, but the walls display a fairly large selection of shoes from brands like Adidas, puma, nike, reebok, etc. The display the remaining shoe sizes on a sticker on the display shoe; which makes it easy to find out if they have it in stock or not. You know, what others have said is not all the way untrue. The people who work here and at the other 2 True stores act like you them something when you walk in the stores. At first I thought their arrogant atittude was attributed to some reasonable explanation, like these were young 20-somethings and they were the OWNERS of True. But I don't think that's true (haha no pun intended). I think they are just like that because they are young 20-somethings who think they are too cool for school, but weren't we all at one point? Anyways, once you can get over the not so friendly staff, you will find some really cool T-shirts, both in the womens and mens stores. I have not purchased shoes in while as I have felt they are a bit on the mainstream side. The T-shirts, however, remain to be rare and original in my eyes. I also do mail order from giantpeach.com, which is the only other place where I have seen the same T-shirts. I've also purchased some mixed CDs although they run a bit pricey and a few True lighters for err... lighting up my candles. They have lots more cool stuff for men so it is a great place to pick up a gift for your male friends. T-shirts purchased from True include: a handful of Bob Marley T-shirts made of that soft, stretchy cotton that doesn't shrink 4 sizes in the wash; some cool "Free Gold Watch" T-shirts with faces of West Coast rappers; a shirt with the American Gothic painting but with Obama and Hillary on it. read more

as always, true comes through as a great store. This review is for the shoe shop I went inside looked at the sweet selection and watched Spain beat Germany while i waited for the clerk to finish with some ghetto fab white dudes from hayward. Anyway, so i ask him about this shoe cleaner by a brand named Jason Markk, he calls up the other guy who was doing stocking, and then begins to give me every little bit of info i need to make sure i was cleaning my shoes correctly! Dude knew what he was talking about, and was real helpful in making me more confident to clean my suede shoes again. All in all a good time, def go there and buy their shoe cleaner! Even the cashier told me that they are usually "cold" to most customers, but after I asked her how her day was she made mine 10 times better by giving me every sticker under the counter for free, giving me the hook up on the new "stunnas of the month" sunglasses and helping me decide which HUF socks I wanted. I'm going to make this review short and to the point. Things that TRUE does well: - Cater to the hip hop crowd. Along with the music that's always thumping, their clothes have a lot of hip-hop references. - Keep it local. Their shirts are all about the Bay Area, and who isn't proud to show it off? Things that TRUE doesn't do so well: - Customer service. Like others said, the atitude screams, "To cool for school." The staff stay posted up in their little timeout corners. "You mad doggie?" I've been stopping by here since I was a freshman in high school, and although I don't buy anything from TRUE anymore, I always find myself in here somehow. It's not that the quality of clothes they sell have gone down or anything, but it's mostly the too cool vibe that really puts me off. I'll admit, I went through my little "gangster" phase back in high school, but whenever I see the store now, I just see a bunch of immature 20 year old workers "keeping it real." ONE LOYAL CUSTOMER LOST AFTER TODAY! Gonna make this short because I dont like leaving bad reviews. Upon entering store I was not even greeted. The African American guy working the registered seen me walk in and not one word, No hello or communication. Then I seen some new shirts in on the counter that I liked and went straight for my size xl. All of a sudden the guy came at me sideways in a tone like I was gonna mess up the shirts. And I told him I was Getting a xl and already been buying shirts here. So know he wants to help me, and from his tone i didnt want to deal with him. So I just said I want to pay for this shirt and I am ready. Upon ringing me up at the register He didnt want to sell me the shirt. "Oh hell naw this ant the price of this shirt, someone fucked up!" EXACT WORDS THAT CAME OUT HIS MOUTH. He goes to the back and calls another person for assistance. A asian guy comes out and is gladly to help me. He informs the African guy to sell me the shirt that was listed on the tag. But NOOO he was already causing a lil scene of not selling the shirt and was even more rude saying "So you want it or what?".......... I put my money back in my wallet and just left. I been a Truer since the bus hoppin era, just to coop some gear here. Even got the latest release of the Yeezies here. But now your customer service is not even TRUE! read more

Meh is right. So I've been true to True for a number of years now. This used to be my go-to spot for a forty something trying to stay young and conected with the kids. But I must say, as some fellow yelper's have expressed, the place has gone down hill. First the product assortment - used to be better, now its a crowded t-shirt shop with some cool t's mind you, but still a t-shirt shop. I can appreciate their brands (undefeated, the hundreds, no-star and their house brand) but there are so many and the way True mechandises the t's is just distracting. True used to carry less and was easier to navigate. Second, the customer service - again used to be better. I can appreciate the -too-cool-for-school attitued (some shops actually do it right (FTC, SFO)..if there is a way) but these guys straight up ignor your bitch ass and are way more interested in texting their freinds than taking your money. Third, return policy - so my latest experiece with them was getting a cool Orisue shirt and some other True-house-brand T's from them whilst on a biz trip to the city (unfortuately i don't live in SF anymore...booohoo) right after i got the Orisue shirt the second time it was washed (by my very careful cleaners mind you) the buttons started to disitagrate. Top it off with the fact that the main buttons were sewn incorrectly at the factory and made a wierd pucker on my front. So on another biz trip i take it back to them. The guy (and this was the manager/buyer) looked at me like he'd never handled a return before..no joke. He litterlaly said "im not sure what i can do for you"?? But fortuately the Orisue rep just happend to be showing that day and he actually said he'd take it back and give me an equal shirt(s). although I have not seen anything yet..hello Isaiah? The other thing was their house brand shirt totaly fadded from deoderant use. I brought this up to mister cool manger and initially he said i bleached it... i then showed him that infact its not bleach but his cheap blanks... he reluctantly replaced the shirt. the one stop shop you can walk into wearing a ball gown and come out sporting urban wear. they've got tables piled with cute shirts and walls lined with jackets ,hoodies and jeans (LRG, Triple 5 Soul and their own TRUE brand) some of these stuff you can't find anywhere else. right next door is one of the best stores in the city that carries current AF1s in my size. they have a few styles for babies too (i buy shoes for my nephew so we wear matching AF1's, i know i'm a dork) make sure to get in their mailing list so you can get first dibs on styles when they come out. read more

The sales associates are nice and helpful if need be. Every so often they will have big sales. The sale items are usually cleaned out quick. I love the true shoe store. I usually buy all my dunks from there. Not too expensive and the shoes I buy there aren't usually in many other places yet. I love it =) The true for women's is always a good place to shop also because most of the clothes there you don't see around often. This place is a classic street wear shop in San Francisco with good selections but most of their shoes are general releases. The staff somewhat helpful but not consistently reliable. Awesome selection in every type of the non-Affliction brand-like "douche-wear!" I always stop by both the lady's store, and often pop into the guy's spot as well. Sometimes you walk in a get the staff that could care less about greeting you, other times, you walk in and although they are busy, they are super attentive.
