I walked in at noon with a planter schematic and a rough lumber list. I walked out 1/2 hour later with a delivery plan and everything I could ask for including a 20% discount (and they got the gardening soil sale to boot)! Gavin was amazingly professional and so competent, and Cody (who delivered less than 3 hours later and found our home hidden deep in the forest) unloaded and stacked the materials thoughtfully and was such a warm and pleasant representative for the store. I'm so happy to buy local and really applaud whoever it is who does the hiring and customer service training! Thanks, guys, you really got my project off to a great start today. read more

So grateful for the knowledgeable, helpful service I got from Dani (calling a plumbing person to come help me), Gavin for leading me to the right parts, and then Ron coming along to check and verify that I was getting the replacement parts I needed to install my old garbage disposal with my brand new sink. Locally owned and ran. Was in need a fan and they had quite an extensive inventory available to choose from. Easy to get to, right off the main drag when going thru Guerneville. A bit a maze in there, so be sure to ask if you are looking for something specific. I had to ask after wandering for about 15 minutes. I can honestly say my favorite store in Guerneville is True Value Hardware : ) Not only did the store have everything I needed during my home renovation but they also have a beautiful assortment of indoor and outdoor plants as well which I definitely love. This store also has an amazing staff willing to help with any question or issue and have advised me on many projects. I appreciate your response, Robert. I understand that HD is charging the same as you do now, but at the time I could get an empty tank for $39 at Costco, complete with a gauge. I can also get a filled Blue Rhino for $65, so I don't understand why anyone would sign up to pay more. Secondly, regarding OSHA...Costco keeps their empty, never-used propane cylinders indoors successfully. The one I brought inside was also completely empty and never-used. In either case, there was no need for your clerk to lash out the way she did. It was incredibly unprofessional and unnecessary. Your store prides itself on service and frankly, it fell well short on that day. read more

I was there this week to get keys made. When I walked in I received immediate help. While my keys were being made and while I was shopping I had at least 5 people ask if they could help me. And there was a good flow of customers at the time, not a bunch of employees looking for something to do. That's how it is every time, and I love it. I have also had custom screens made. RV section has windshield wipers, hoses, water filters, for basic RV needs and this location offers propane east side of building, take a right just before the true value building. "Dada's" is the go to place when I'm working in the west county and I need to replace a tool or get rental equipment. The rental stuff's on the pricier side but it's maintained well, better than many of the rental firms in surrounding areas mind you. Staff has always been attentive and helpful with anything I needed. Good selection of tools, PPE, and supplies. A little bit of everything. If you're building a house or a large project you may want to phone in a delivery from a material yard near the 101. But for a handy-guy who works on little jobs it's typically all I need. Last tip. Don't try parking with a trailer in the lot, it's possible but it's a headache. There's a nice alley behind the store and they don't seem to mind when I park on the road outside the store either. read more

We have been customers of Dada's True Value Hardware in Guerneville since 1982. We remember when the current owner, Robert Dada, was a local high school football star and has long since taken over the business from his father Ralph. Robert has done a great job growing this hardware store into a 'one stop shop' for everything and anything you could possible need. If its not something you eat, they have it. If they don't have it, you probably don't really need it. From plumbing to propane, lug nuts to liquid gold, they've got it. They even have a huge new pet supply zone and a large lumber yard which is growing by the day. Before heading all the way into Santa Rosa for lumber, check them out and see what they can do for you. You will be surprised. The garden center has rooms full of equipment and supplies for everything yard. We have also utilized the equipment and tool rental quite a bit. Very reasonable rates with a large selection. Now, over the years (and when they are super busy), there has sometimes been customer service issues. They have worked hard on that and it has really turned around. Dada's is now kind of the 'Cheers' of hardware stores.... where everybody knows your name and they're always glad you came! Big shout outs to Robert, Don, Devin, Bill, Keith, Sergio and Bode for all the great service and help they have provided us. You still can even catch the original owner, Ralph Dada, in the aisles helping out cause he just can't seem to fully retire. Don't forget to sign up for a customer rewards account. I personally find that True Value is one of the friendliest stores in the Russian River area. The staff is well educated to assist you, and if the salesperson doesn't know the answer, they find a staff person who does. Robert, (the store manager), goes out of his way to find products in my price range and I feel that I would rather save gas money then drive to Santa Rosa, Windsor for Home Depot which I never can find assistance on. They also allow for business accounts which gives you greater savings and really helps out the small business owners such as myself. I am also impressed that if they are out of stock they will call other True Value stores or the manufacturers and find the equipment, hardware or tools that I need. Of the many local businesses in the Russian River Resort Area, this store has one of, if not the most, friendly, helpful staff. As a business that relies on local clientele as opposed to the majority which rely on tourism, they are far more pleasant than shops who need to be nice to garner customers. You cannot spend more than a minute in this store without an employee doing everything they can to assist you. I previously had rated them 3 stars (5 for service & stock, minus 1 for hours and minus one for price point), but have added a star to their new pet feed selection, which they've clearly been working their behinds off to make happen and obviously take a lot of pride in. No more do we need to drive out of town to find high-quality dog & cat food & supplies. They even have a great selection for caged pets and chickens. When planning their pet food selection, they solicited brands from their regulars and did their best to stock these brands. THAT is customer service at its finest. Mind you, some brands do not allow hardware stores to carry their lines, which is why you won't see them here or at that place in Sebstopol. Regardless, they have carefully selected the high-end alternatives you should be using anyway. My initial concern was that given the location and the fact they're the only store up here with these brands, the pricing would be too high and I'd still be driving to the feed stores. WRONG! They are actually cheaper on all prices (I researched the crap outta this) than the Sebastopol hardware place, the Sebastopol feed shop and the Fulton feed shop. THANK YOU SO MUCH, True Value! I cannot recommend this place more when it comes to pet food. Hardware & lumber is slightly higher in price here than the mega-corporate big box retailer, but when you consider travel time and gas, it tends to balance out. Their garden supplies, seeds & plants are cheaper than anywhere in the county and they have a decent supply. Paint is cheaper, indoor gardening is cheaper & lighting is cheaper. As a matter of fact, it's rare that they don't have what you're looking for at a decent price. The trifecta of pricing, friendly & helpful staff & amount of inventory makes this store an example of what all RR businesses should be like. Maybe if the Main Street mom & pops were to follow True Value's lead, we'd see less businesses going under and a higher tourist return rate. read more

Im super annoyed right now because I used my debit card for a purchase with the employee guarantee it could be returned if it wasn't the right thing. It wasn't. Returned the very next day with receipt in brand new condition. Im STILL waiting for my debit card to be charged for the original purchase by them, let alone credit me the refund=annoyed. Great service, knowledgeable and friendly staff! I was undertaking staining a large knotty pine wall to match an existing cedar log cabin wall... a bit daunting! Don spent a lot of time with me testing a variety of stains on the extra pine panel I had brought in. Luckily I had a piece of the cedar with me as well, in order to see which stain would work best. Don was incredibly helpful - not only did we find a stain we thought would work, but he also gave me a verbal "how to" tutorial. It was quite a process, but I started early the next morning (as he recommended), and by the end of the day the wall was done! I am very pleased with the outcome, and grateful for the patience and support of all the staff I've encountered here whenever I come in :-) read more

I absolutely can't say enough good about this store. I have a vacation home up in Monte Rio and I'm constantly coming to True Value to get stuff. Now, I've done a lot of home repair, some plumbing, some electrical, some carpentry, etc.... but I'm no expert in anything. Generally, if I have to do something, I get on youtube and look it up first to see a video. (unfortunately, among all my friends, I am the most "handy", so I've got nobody to show me things I don't already know). Anyway, they guys at this shop know a bit of everything, but what's great is that there is always someone who knows a LOT about whatever it is that you are working on. So far I've done a lot of PVC work, some copper soldering, wired in a new switch, put in a hot water heater, replaced old cast iron sewage lines with ABS pipe. They rented me tools for insanely cheap prices. Even tools that NOBODY would expect them to have. I mean, when I had to cut a cast iron sewage pipe, everyone said saws-all. These guys said, hey, for $10 you can rent an actual pipe cutter (which is a huge ugly tool that makes PERFECT cuts.) I didn't even know it existed. Honestly, they have everything. You could build an entire village out of their stock! If you want to go to Home Depot, where you can hunt down some high-school kid to get you want you need, or Lowes, where you have about 1 chance in 100 of getting someone with any kind of building background, go for it. You'll save about $5 for everyone $500 you spend.... and lose it as soon as you make your first screw up and have to go back. There is no possible way this store could be better. None. The stock is amazing and the staff is unbelievable. If there were a way to give it 50 stars I would. If you are a professional, a wannabee handyman (like me) or stepping into your first project ever. THIS is your first stop. Seriously. I you are standing in Home Depot right now, 30 minutes away, reading this review, walk out the door and drive to True Value in Guerneville. Seriously. Do it.
