Two vintage lamps needed repair, one a pull chain and the other a roller clamp. Michael and his co-worker, so sorry I did not catch the name, provided absolutely the best customer service. They made sure the lamps got what they needed to maintain safety, gave me a hefty and welcome discount and they went out of their way to get the lamps repaired right away so that I did not have to return another day via paratransit. Michael even drove me to the nearby coffee shop to wait on this rainy day. Not only that, but since I did not have independent transportation, Michael delivered the lamps to me at the coffee shop where I was waiting for my ride. And of course, the lamps now work great! This is a specialty lighting store with fixtures and custom lighting. They helped us 8 years ago with lighting. But the lighting designer retired and left it to someone else. Now this is not a very helpful place. The custom work is awkward as you have to use a third party designer or rely on the manufacturer team to ring you. Prices also high. read more

Lamp Repair Needed and Bo came to the rescue. I was unable to turn the light on or utilize the three bright levels. I took the lamp in and Bo immediately took down the information. When I returned to pick up the lamp expecting to pay the designated charge for the repair that I had been quoted, I was told that it was no charge because all Bo needed to do was give me a new knob switch that had metal on the inside side instead of plastic and now it wouldn't strip and wear out. Yet again OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE and I can't tell you how impressed I have been each time I have visited and they have resolved each issue professionally. Thank you - JF Lighting and Design. This gem of a lighting store is located on Airport Blvd. is easy to get to and has ample parking. I came in yesterday with my thrift find, A Fredrick Cooper lamp that needed a little tweaking to make it work. Eugene spent a good hour with me going over parts selection, then he paired up shades to 2 other lamps I had brought in. Again amazing selection of lamps, shades and accessories, even new crystal chandeliers. Spoke with manager Luis in person and he seemed super helpful. I was optimistic about supporting a local business and was encouraged to research online to narrow my options. I emailed them to him for help choosing, and never got a response. I called and was told by the person who answered that he'd return my call. He did not. I called again. This time he returned my call and claimed he never received my email. I forwarded it again, and again didn't hear back. I've called twice since, leaving my number with the receptionist, and still not a peep. Four calls and two emails, and still no response or fixture... Guess they don't need my business so I'll be taking it elsewhere. And people wonder why big box stores thrive...SMH. read more

Eugene at JF Lighting is most helpful and knowledgeable about the products they sell. I and extremely pleased with the high-quality lighting I purchased. What was not great was the time it took to receive my order. (About 4 weeks, which seemed excessive.). Also, they charge the customer to ship the lights from the vendor to the shop. Never heard of that before. Also, when I call to check on my order, it takes several calls before I get a call back to find out the status of my order. read more

I came to JF Lighting & Design in a search for cone-hood (downward light directing) lamp posts which had a GFI outlet incorporated in them. (I later exhausted all other retailer possibilities in the North Bay, coming up empty for this product combination.) I spoke with Louis who knew exactly which manufacturer catalogs to root through of the library he had behind the counter. He directed me to the least costly of two manufacturers for the poles. And he found a nice cone hooded lamp from another manufacturer. Great selection, expertise, prices and customer service. read more

I can't believe that I am the first to add this business to yelp. There are many excellent older independent business that aren't represented on the internet. Maybe its only a matter of time before the worst happens and it all goes corporate, but we gotta support local business (watch 'Idiocracy"). Way better selection than the depot. Update- as you can see, Luis demonstrates his lack of concern and empathy for the customer, and refuses to accept responsibility for his poor customer service. And he is the manager customers deal with if any issues arise. Horrible experience with Luis the manager at this store. He's fine to work with until something goes wrong with your order. Then he goes MIA, never calls you back, and refuses to take responsibility for his errors. We place lighting orders over $1500 and got horrible service. Our 4 Besa sconces came in with large variation in color (2 light & 2 dark). These lights looked bad on our walls due to color differences. They said there was nothing they could do about this and so I had to order 4 new lights in white in order to be confident color would come in same color with little variation. They then sat on the 2nd order for over 3 months with no progress. When I finally called to follow up, turned out they never placed the 2nd order. When 2nd order finally came in, Luis charged us $160 restocking fee even though we did not get the original lights we expected and had to wait over 3 months for acceptable replacements. Worse part of this- Luis never apologized and refused to accept any responsibility for these problems. read more

I was quoted a price on a fixture,when I came in to order it the salesmen made a comment on the price being very low?. He asked if I had been given any shipping cost , I said no. He said it might be $15.00 I said ok. When I picked up the fixture the shipping cost was $63.00. I am left to think the profit in this sale was hidden in the shipping. The moral of this story is know the final price on things when doing business with J& F. read more

We wanted under cabinet lights for a kitchen remodel and looked at two stores, one being JF LIghting and Design. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and we selected one of the first products we were shown. The lights are installed under the cabinets -- they are hardly visible -- and they work great. I never understood the need for under cabinet lighting but I see how well they work now. Really adds a lot to the look. read more

Luis at JF Lighting is fantastic to work with! We ended up at JF after experiencing bad customer service at the Lighting Design Center. He was incredibly friendly and helpful, listened to our requests and gave his own professional direction. For example, we said our coat closet, laundry room, and garage lighting didn't need to be fancy, so he suggested a very simple, cost effective, yet high-output light that was only $15 (whereas the other place was showing us fixtures in the $150+ range). Also, we wanted motion lights on the front of the house, but there are very few nice looking fixtures of that type that come with a built-in motion sensor. The other place basically said "You're stuck with these two choices", neither of which we were really fond of, but Luis suggested adding a stand-alone motion sensor, easily wired to the light, which would open up our choice of fixture to anything we wanted! He got us our quote within a few days, was very quick to respond when we had a question about it, and when we picked up a couple weeks later, all the boxes were already labeled 'front entry', 'master bedroom', etc. (So my wife brought her sharpie for nothing, lol.) JF's showroom is smaller (in size) than some other places, but they had a great selection and amazing customer service. I HIGHLY recommended them! read more

Called to get a price on 2 ceiling fans. Person who answered phone didn't know much. I explained that I had seen an as in the local paper that fans were 25% off but the ad did not give any details. She said that she would have someone call. The person who called wasn't sure either. I said that I was looking for 2 of the same specific Hunter ceiling fans and could I get a price? He guessed a price. I told him that they were considerably less on the manufacturer's website and that I was trying to buy local. He said that he would get back to me with a price. It's been more than a day and still no call back. I guess I'll order them from Friedman's or Home Depot. read more

Went to another lighting store in town where they were so rude with my order that I vowed never to return. I looked up J F Lighting and Design Inc and gave them a try. I'm up-dating my beach house kitchen and needed a "splashy" light over the kitchen sink but had lots to work around. I had lots of choices of lighting fixtures and had great suggestions for the John. He told me what the pros and cons are with the two I liked and also suggested I paint one of the lamps- a great idea that I would have never thought to do. I'll only go to J and F in the future even though it is serval miles further than a store much closer. It is worth the travel time. read more
